There was holding on that play not called. The TV announcers even mentioned it showing the replay. If holding was allowed on every play there would be lots of Supermen.

I remember 1974 when Michigan drove down to the 15 yard line. Fourth quarter, time running out . Mike Lantry missed the field goal attempt and it was heartbreaking

Doug Skene is great! 👍
@asay636Күн бұрын
Balas you are 100% correct that both those PI’s called against us were VERY questionable, if not leaning more towards OPI. Offensive face masking on the 1st one, and underthrown ball causing receiver to attempt to run through a UM defender who was in good defensive position with inside leverage on the 2nd one. Bailed out both times.

Miller Moss is in the portal. Michigan should grab him. He’s a good Pro style QB who can thrive with a good O-line. We wish him well. Fight On!

Spare me the pearl clutching about the rivalry “devolving”. There’s never been any respect. OSU players tore down the banner in the 70s and Woody Hayes was a petulant child on the sidelines for decades. The trash talk before the game in ‘97 and the fighting during. I could come up with dozens of examples going all the way back. The inability of people past a certain age to remember a single thing about the past is baffling. OSU has never been able to handle losing. It hasn’t changed and it’s not at all different.
@kimig5272Күн бұрын
Thank you, Balas. 💯OSU fans HAVE turned this into an MSU-level rivalry. They do not respect Michigan. Modern day OSU football culture has NOT earned my respect; and I, too, (as an alumnus & lifetime faithful 💙) remember the Schembechler & Moeller era well. That was then; this is now. Go Blue!

What's really interesting is I had also heard about Day turning Ohio State into a wide receiver culture. Still, it should have been terribly obvious to Ohio State Offensive Coordinator 'Chip Kelly' and Ryan Day that Michigan was playing a contain type of defense and adjust accordingly. They never did. Very bizarre or confusing.
@101stairassault5Күн бұрын
Michigan D actually mixed it up well and confused Howard. They would look like man in the secondary then go zone. Many plays they had a strong man set on the D-line with Graham and Grant taking over up front and playing zone in the secondary. With two first round NFL Draft picks up front plowing through a soft O-line. Michigan didn’t have to commit too many LB’s to the line and they were dropping back into coverage. LB’s just played zone read a lot and adjusted to the plays well. There were plays when Smith was tripled covered on his routes where it didn’t matter if smith did a go, curl or crossing route, he was covered. Excellent Defensive scheme by Wink to make any passing game difficult to stick to. It’s why we had 2 INT’s…making Howard think there was a zone coverage, but it was actually man on the outside.

The play that changed the whole game was the hit by Makari Paige on the OSU QB. Their whole offense was changed from that hit for the rest of the game. That was a GREAT hit!! But, he didnt wrap up at all on it. But that cemented into the brain of the QB that "oh, they are serious"!! Kinda seemed like "that was his first time of getting his SOUL rocked!!! A game changer for sure.
