I think my favourite way to learn Balatro, rather than watching explainer videos, is to just watch experienced players play. So with that in mind, a channel I wholeheartedly recommend is Roffle Lite, who puts out a Balatro video every single day - each video is just him playing a full run (or two runs), uninterrupted, and with pretty good commentary that allows you to understand his mindset. And while there are some modded runs, he overwhelmingly plays vanilla gold stake.

I think it'd be worth talking about the 'contains a' Jokers. One thing I've had to explain to my friends is that they apply to more than just the hand they say on the label.

@@elibergquist7433 I think Beans is going to do a video on this, but I'll summarize anyway. Several of the starter Jokers care about hands. For instance, Jolly Joker says - +8 Mult if played hand contains a Pair. The key word is _contains_. It doesn't mean this Joker only works with Pairs. Two Pairs contains a Pair. Three of a Kind contains a Pair, etc. Then there is Crazy Joker - +12 Mult if played hand contains a Straight. This one is a bit more limited, but this also applies to Straight Flushes, because a Straight Flush, contains a Straight. Hopefully that helps a bit.

I'm not a beginner - I had around 40 hours logged - but I wasn't really playing 'seriously'. I was moving house and I played Balatro at the end of every day as a way to unwind. I just did my best/winged it and if I won a run, great, and if I didn't, well I just hopped back in and tried again. 9 months later and I'm all moved and settled and I've gone back to Balatro. I wanted to actually get better at the game so I started watching your tips. I was especially having trouble with black deck but after utilising a couple of tips in this video, I beat it first try today! So, what I'm trying to say is thank you for all your Balatro content, it's great 😁

This game is so much deeper than I thought. Always avoid cards that include anything to do with gaining $. Probably getting stuck in a cycle. I did get to ante 8 for the first time last night and narrowly missed the boss blind 😭 hopefully your tips will push me past the line. Thanks for the video!

you should always have one economy card - so you can open packs once your jokers are set. You just don't need multiple cards.

Hi beans new player here. I’ve only won a few times and keep getting cut around ante 7-8. Especially anything over 200k chips. I have the red,blue, green, yellow, black, magic and nebula deck. Because these are all 4 suit decks, I have been noticing that a 1 suit flush deck has gotten me the farthest but then really hits a cap at the later antes. Changing suits eats away at a lot of my money to spend on leveling up with planets. Thank you for the advice about fishing for straights with the exterior cards from one of your other videos, I will try that next run for a straights deck.

@ last night I got to ante 12 on a nearly all diamond deck with flush, straight and straight flush leveled up. Really took your advice and using hands as discards was totally killer, not only did I place the ballot joker first and x mult on the end, the ballot joker. Green joker came in clutch using the poker hand “discard” with +1 mult per non discarded hand. With that, some flush chip cards and the four fingers was killer. But I really didn’t encounter any X mult joker or enhancements throughout the run which really capped my growth. I think I’ll take your advice and go primarily for straights and then flush secondarily

You win in Balatro if you beat the Ante 8 Boss. After that, you are able to go endless if you want to see how far you go, but it's already considered a winning run

Something that i noticed, any joker that says includes a pair for example. Even when you play a flush for example that happens to have a pair in it. It triggers the joker.

Alright, I have one. When you’re starting a run, and you go to those early shops (because I’m following your advice about not skipping :D) what am I looking for? Should I just be avoiding packs because I don’t know what my joker synergies are? Or should I be hunting for upgrades and destroy abilities?

A good rule is one good joker per ante in the early antes. If you get one good joker that you know you can beat the next round with, save your money. If you need to spend money to survive, do it and then save for the interest cap once you're stable

Here's one mistake you won't see often. I.. uh, my friend, used a spectral card to make a polychrome joker and delete all other jokers. Unfortunately I got the word joker and jack mixed up in his brain and deleted his joker line up in ante 10 😢

Vagabond is tricky but having good econ jokers that score "at the end of the round" can be helpful, like satellite and rocket, so you still get some money to spend in the shops without making Vagabond useless. Burglar can be nice since it gives you more hands which allows you to get more Tarot cards from Vagabond. Driver's license, Steel card, and Vampire can be powerful since you have an ability to enhance a great amount of cards. If I think of anymore, I'll let you know

Im very bad at math but xmult is very good once you have stuff going on... a 20x2 pair will not really compliment those x2, x3... thats just 20x4 or 20x6... but if u have first a +mult like a 20 one then is 20+2, 22×2 suddenly you have a big multiplier... however 44mult altho is good you need chips... 20x40 is just 800... now if u only had one foil joker it would be 70x40 thats 2800

Basically the math should be as even as possible 80x20 is 1600, but 50x50 is 2500. So even if u multiply by 1000 but only have 20 chips does not help much

On Nintendo Switch, learning and just playing this game wouldve been 1000% easier if the dumb text and various screens were BIGGER. The font/text is ridiculously tiny. Screen utilization is piss poor. I’m gonna seek a refund and try this on iPad. I want a portable version but cripes… screens, fonts need to be scaled up.

As a new player I need to know if the Heiroglyph voucher is useful? (-1 ante, -1 hand each round.) I've bought it a couple times early on but is it better to just ignore it?

I've bought it once, better if it pops up in the shop in ante 7 and you know you don't have the setup to win the run, so it buys you more time to improve the build. But 1 less hand can hurt

This tips are good, but luck is such a huge part of it. I see the hands you play with big numbers for your examples but how do I save, and buy arcana packs, and do this and do that all by a certain time. You show a deck where every card is enhanced with a token and all the same rank, with also like 9 jokers. the luck to get that amount of stuff in one run must be insane.

With that run I used a lot of death tarot cards, got a trading card to get rid of anything that wasn't a king, and got a DNA to copy my sealed kings. I also believe I played on ghost deck which allowed me to get a lot of spectral cards throughout the run

Also want to point out not understanding what debuff bosses actually does to their build/not understanding where are their scoring come from. While sometimes the debuff bosses are devastating sometimes they just do very little. I see lot of new players sell a joker on Verdant Leaf regardless while "undebuff" their cards only grand them few extra chips.
