The bricks used in the construction of the viaduct (11.3 million) did not come from the Netherlands they were made locally, the ornamental stone did however come from Caen in France.

Fantastic Richard! Thanks i didn’t know you’d already been there. I’ve never walked around it, only driven past. The viaduct really is a beautiful piece of Victorian architecture & I had no idea that the bricks came from Holland.

Fantastic to stumble upon this one. I note that it would cost £3.5 million in today’s money - but if they had to rebuild a viaduct there today, it would cost 10s of millions!
