georgian wine is really cool for a few reasons! - it's typically non-intervention or 'natural' wine (here he refers to it as ecological). within that field, it's really highly regarded! - wine there is most often produced in a 'qvevri' which is like an egg shaped clay vessel which they bury underground. the production of these as of 2013 is recognised by UNESCO as 'intagible cultural heritage'. - after pressing the grapes, they pour the juice, stalks, skins and pips (everything!) into the vessel to ferment without intervention in any regard. - they have one of (if not the) widest variety of indigenous grapes on the planet considering the size of the state. - according to isabelle legeron (MW), the state has the longest history of continuous production in the world! how wonderful that he gave you a bottle!
@Whitepilledprincess3 жыл бұрын
I am in the wine field. Non-interventionist wine is not highly regarded. It is inconsistent and highly likely to suffer from bacterial spoilage and therefore taste absolutely horrific. Georgian wine is cool, though. Most if it is actually made in the normal, modern way -and can be exceptionally good. All winemaking grapes (vitis vinifera) and all winemaking/brewing yeast (saccharomyces cereviciae) originated from there, on the south-facing slopes of the Caucus Mountains. I have worked with some incredible ancient Georgian grape varieties, they taste like nothing else.

I honestly think we have the worst roads in Europe, something you would probably see in the himalayas. It's always baffled me since we have all the resources we need for asphalt... Driving on these roads in the winter is also a death sentence, lots of people have lost their lives slidding on these narrow roads into fjord and drowned. My uncle slammed into a mountainside in his truck, and my grandmother drowned. Nasty nasty roads.

A few years ago, I was repairing a giant hopper at a cement factory, where they would pour raw material, sort it by size, and load them into trucks to be taken to wherever. The crane we had to get stuff up to didn't go high enough, so I had to collect a ladder from a cherry picker, and climb up the ladder with it. I needed the ladder because the door inside the hopper was considered a health and safety risk, ironically, so we needed it to get in legally. The ledge into the top had no railing, it had bust away. At any rate, I would have to prop the ladder against the opening, climb in, reach over and pull the ladder in with me. When I was finished for the day, we had to clear everything out, and do it again the next day. On the final day of repair, my boss decided to help me clean up, and yanked the ladder hard as he could out of the hopper. It hit me in the chest, I stumbled back, and felt absolutely fucking nothing under my right foot, with no guard behind me, God knows how high up. I bent my left knee, and very slowly rocked forwards with my arms out to my side like a tightrope act. I promised myself, if I ever find myself in the air again like that, I'm going alone. I wouldn't climb that fuckin' crane holding a camera, at any rate.

Georgians-the most generous people in the world. I have been to over 50 countries but only in Georgia did I have strangers buy dinner for my wife and I and what's more different strangers did it on 2 different nights. @@olivier6840 Yes the main roads are good close to Tromsø, but that`s just there, as soon as you go less then 50 km outside the "capital of the north" the story is much different. Where I live on the border to finnmark the side roads are verry much sovjet style and the main roads are pretty crappy too, my vw golf 4 is not made for this kinda abuse....

On a road quality index from 2018. Ukraine is on place 125 from 140. Zimbabwe is ranked place 124 and many other poor african countries are ranked higher aswell. On this index Norway is ranked place 48. which isn't that high considering that Norway is such a wealthy country. On place 1 is Switzerland followed by Singapor and the Netherlands. You have to understand that Ukraine is the poorest European country by GDP per capita especially since the Euromaidan coup in 2014.
