Went to Morocco on a whim after taking a vacation in Spain as a naive 20 year old, we didn't even do any research except we knew the hashish was good. Man oh man did me and my friends get scammed. Overpaid for the taxi in Marrakesh right out the gate, managed to find a great riad by chance, but every 5 minutes in the bazaar we were getting harassed. It made it impossible to just enjoy the city and let loose. Feel lost? Pull out a map or look at your phone for more than 30 seconds and touts will descend upon you, offering to take you back to the riad when in reality you end up at their carpet shop. My Moroccan friend in Tetouan later told us that as a Westerner you should never look people in the eye and you should always say "no" if anyone approaches you speaking English. We didn't know this when we first landed so we would just start speaking German to people trying to scam us and they would usually fuck off. Then of course we met a tout who spoke better German than us. Travelling in these countries is fantastic, but you will be stressed out if constant harassment gets to you. After awhile you kind of just ignore it. Cairo was worse. As to the person saying Asia, I've never experienced those issues in Southeast Asia or East Asia (China, Korea, Japan).
@FreightFright4 жыл бұрын
@@SenderBudYerGood Well, Westerners typically have more money and way less street smarts, so yeah, it's easy pickings. Even as a broke college student in the Middle East, the touts and beggars who approach you are infinitely more poor. Someone in Morocco told me that the minimum wage at the time was something like $10 USD/day. A tout could rip off as much from a naive middle-aged couple from Kansas in about 10 minutes. Crime pays.

I returned from India a couple of weeks ago after spending 6 weeks travelling, mainly Northern parts. Varanasi was high on my list and it didn't disappoint. An assault to the senses would be an understatement but it was an experience I truly loved. Being 70s years old and travelling alone has its challenges but, whilst I came across quite a few scammers, the people, in the main, were kind and helpful even though, unlike you, I didn't speak the language. The best Lassi shop I found was the Blue Lassi shop, that I came across walking down those back alleys you walked and showed so well. Unfortunately the Ganges was in flood after some heavy monsoon rain so no boats were operating due to the fast currents. The Ghats were very spiritual and attended, by invitation, a cremation on the banks of the mighty River. Ah, I could waffle on for ages. I wont but just to say that no country that I have visited left it's mark like India has. Loved the video and will watch it again. So many happy memories.

It's not just India. Any place you visit on Earth has "men". And not all "men" are same. Women like you, I belive are strong enough to defend themselves. Educated enough to help themselves, and are not less to men. However, choosing "proper" place (if travelling by yourself) is adviced. People are educating, generations are changing, people are changing and there are many many parts of India where you can roam all alone, with 0 fear of anything. Again, not all places are same, not all men are same 😀🙏.

Mr Bald, I must tell you how precious your videos are to me and why: I have Asperger Autism, which means that I experience challenges in communicating with people on a daily basis and am often misunderstood and stared at as if I had asked for some Desi Daru in an Islamic neighborhood..so, some of the looks and reactions you're getting are quite common to me, even when being in my home country. Watching your channel for some time now, I realise that I'm making some progress with getting in touch with people.. I'm learning a lot from your social skills and behaviour and, meanwhile, I'm able to use these to make contact.. it works great (something my therapist wasn't able to make me feel comfortable with)! My Autism also comes with being hypersensitive to sound, smell, bright lights etc. so, unfortunately I will probably never be able to visit a fascinating country like India (a pity as I have studied "Comparative History of Religion" with focus on India). So, through your immersive videos, I feel a bit like I'm traveling with you and kinda catch up in a virtual way on what I could not live myself. In short, Mr Bald, your work is true life-enrichment for me and I can't thank you enough! For now, I wish you all the best for your health recovery! A big "Jai boleh ki!" from Germany..

To all the people saying oh I'm never going to India, i totally understand your reaction by seeing this video. I had the same reaction when i first landed in Dheli years ago. But remember India is Huge! it's a living and breathing Jungle Book, full of life, colors, sounds, smells and food. While at first you feel threatened you eventually see the peace flowing through the chaos and become part of it. Also, this is not the full picture of India! While the main cities like Dheli, Mumbai, Benares(Varanasi) are crowded, to which you sort of adjust to the first few days, you still can easily leave the chaos and head to mucher calmer places sorrounded in nature; whether it be coconut filled beaches or zen like mountains where the Dalai Lama resides. India is a real adventure. Most Indians themselves have not visited the entirety of their country. It's incredible. Don't be afraid.
