Start dialog with trader - change your party member - use hold person on trader - change to rogue. Paralysis bugged and lasts forever if you are in dialog. If you are failed pickpocketing - no matters. -0 reputation, trader in CC. You can repeat again and again.

You can use a bard to distract others around by playing music and using the 'command follow' spell on the trader.. works especially well on the trader in moonrise towers

You could actually steal all of the gold of the vendor. Because if you stole the gears and then plan on selling it to them, you'd just make the vendor spend their gold. Might as well steal the gold too

Once you get Cracefull cloth you get advantage on all dex checks, makes failing nearly impossible on most sleight of hand

Darkness arrow works for pickpocketing too, they get blinded and if they're still inside the darkness while they catch you, you COULD just kill them and no one will know lol

Yes, I very quickly deactivated that in my play through. I just have the kindof luck where I roll high on things that dont matter, like skill checks that are a 5 but then roll low at the worst times!

Interesting. The one and only thing I did not read here... If you already "Disguise Self"... why do you not turn yourself into a Halfling? They have "Lucky" which makes them re-roll a check if they roll a 1. Which means you can ignore the first 1 you roll. Doesn't help you if the game decides you roll two times a 1 in a row, but better then nothing lol.

That's something I've never considered! That is a great option. I just always choose a teifling (for the grove anyway) because rollplay wise there are a bunch around so you would "blend in".

@@Ianistoocommon Yeah my friend is... lets say very attached to his five finger discount, he made a Halfling because of the Lucky re-roll lol. It is especially interesting, if your Sleight of Hand skill is so high the only chance to fail is literally a Critical Fail with a 1, and Halflings always re-roll the first 1. The chance of rolling a 1 two times in a row is rather low. Unless... you play with karmic dice on, and the game decides you have to fail, if the only way to let you fail is rolling a 1 then it will do that.

I am almost lv 4, just barely getting into the blighted village and playing on explorer. (Anyone wanting to give me crap about playing on explorer can f off now) I recruited the halfling hireling, respeced her as a rogue, and gave them: mask of the shapeshifter, silver pendant, gloves of power, and smugglers ring. Once I get better gear I'll use that but she has such a high bonus that I almost never fail when attempting to steal. The only times I have failed lately are when stealing the merchants gold or a magic weapon. I have yet to roll a second nat 1 after halfling luck rerolled the first.

I am using Astarion, and non lethal damage, he is level 3, full stealth mode, and every time i attempt a KO, they turn around and catch me. Even with a 90% text. Reloaded about 20+ times so far.

Double check your rolls, make sure you are getting the sneak attack. It could be you are using a weapon or armor he is not proficient with. To ensure you are getting sneak attack you could also place a mage hand or imp or any other invisible character / familiar next to the trader. Also what area are you in? I know in some of the higher leveled areas you will need a couple attacks unless you get a critical hit to knock them out. It is also fine if you dont knock them out right away assuming you have disguise self on, they wont know it was you when you go back later.

@Ianistoocommon Sneak attack while in stealth, turn base is on, Subclass is thief. Using the sneak attack option, he has green gear, 1 yellow, with all of them having his proficiencies. I am in the tiefling camp just after the goblin attack. It even fails when attempting on the kids that try to rob you.

Sounds like you may be being spoted by another NPC, especially when trying the kids, there are alot of people in that area. Make sure no one else is in the area when you attempt to knock them out. You may need to distract other characters with a cat familiar to lead them away if you can. Also the main trader at the near the gates does have alot of health, so you probably will not be able to knock him out in one hit until you are a higher level. I am in the process of making a part 2 to this video, it should be up in a couple days. I think some of the methods I use in it will help you.

so you need an Arcane Trickster for this then? That's too bad, because it means either sacrificing Astarion's build or super-cheesing it by constantly respeccing him to and from Arcane Trickster. The other classes that get Disguise Self probably won't have very good Sleight of Hand, except maybe a Dex-based Warlock, and none of them can reliably one-shot an NPC with melee attacks

You dont need the trickster, I just found it is the best for being able to get away with it. If you dont have disguse self you have to be carefull how many times you steal from a NPC because their attitude towards you (and your party) will drop each time you do. They will also be more suspicious of you when you go back and will watch you more closely so you may not beable to pickpocket again with out a distraction. But if you plan on not returing to the trader or area it doesent matter, you can just take everything and move on. I have not tested if you can get away with knocking them out just from sneak without using disguise self, but this may also work?

You don't "need" to be a Arcane Trickster. There are several ways to use Disguise Self, as example you could have a "College of Lore Bard" or a "Gloom Stalker Ranger" and specialize the character on Dex for stealing, they all have Disguise Self.

I used the cave door entrance down below the druid trader to reset the npc & get out of combat. shorter distance & auto reset. Trader will not zone in. 😂😂😂

Yes, you can steal as many times as uou want. However if you get caught they will "watch" you so you will not beable to steal for a bit, if you long rest you will be ok to steal again.

It is possible right at the start of the game, depending on what trader you are going after. Dammon has very low hit points so you can easily knock him out at a low level, you would just need to distract the other people in the area using a scroll or a bard or something. For the higher level traders such as Arron to knock them out you would need to cast hold person on them so you would need to use a scroll of hold person at low levels. But by Level 3 you are able to do exactly what I did.

I would say so, it really depends on your play style, if you loot and sell everything and if you steal or not. If you are stealing what ever you need that would be about average.

None taken! You are right this is very cheesy too , and very easy to take advantage of. I just find these methods more roll play friendly and fun to do than just rerolling my bad rolls. I play a bunch of actual Dungeons and Dragons too, and you can completly in character say you will just try to steal things until they catch you and then just try to run away, or attempt to knock someone out to steal all their things. Although I doubt it would work out as well as in BG3. I feel like they need to add a "run away" option when you get caught stealing. Thanks for watching!
