My wife, my friends and I all have full time jobs but we've been playing every other Friday or Saturday night for the last 3 years and it is spectacular to do. The outlet, the comraderie, the sheer fun of it all. Its worth losing few hours sleep at least once a month!

Same here, after 30 its impossible to find a DnD group so Crpgs are our best option. BG3 will probably be the best Trpg to date. Multiplayer should give you almost real DnD experience, without the GM

You need to find time to get a group going for D&D. I was the same way, always wanted to play but never had the time. The five of us in my group all have kids, less one person. We find time to play once or twice a month. The stuff that happens while playing are memories that'll last me the rest of my life. One example: Our DM uses these critical fail cards, so you roll a 1 you pull a card. We were fighting a Red Mage boss in a dungeon and our warrior rolled a crit fail. The card told them that their minds swapped bodies, so the boss now was put into his warrior and vice versa. We were level 2 at the time and gained a character with 60 HP when we all had around 20. So for the first few months of the campaign, this dude is just an absolute tank rolling around in the bosses body. With that change, he brought many other difficulties while playing. Like concealing the fact that he was a red mage but a "good guy". It was glorious and stuff like that makes DND amazing. Find time, bro.

When other game developers complain about how fantastic this game is and how its unfair for everybody to expect this standard of game moving forward, it then certainly becomes a must buy. Larian made genre defining games with divinity original sin and divinity original sin 2 so to expect them not to hit home run with this just seems silly, im in.

Thank you for this, Aoife. Loved your introduction to this amazing game. I've been playing TTRPG D&D since the early 80s. My first CRPG was one of the SSI Gold Box games, "Pool of Radiance" and I played so many other games in that series. A decade later it was on to the Infinity Engine games like Baldur's Gate, BG2, Icewind Dale and others, where an old friend since high school and I did a ton of co-op. I poked around for about 50 hours in Early Access for BG3 after it was first released. My friend and I are planning to spend every Saturday after the full game releases doing a co-op campaign; just like the old days! August 3rd can't come soon enough!

BG3 has been rumbling away in the background on steam for 3, maybe 4 years, at this point and I couldn't be more excited to finally be able to get out of chapter 1! Also, this game has by far the most incredible, most vivid, vicious and volatile depiction of the Underdark to date. Cannot tell you how many times I've been steamrolled by a meandering bullete out for his noonsie stroll or a pesky hook horror taking too much interest in my life or death battle with some minotaurs. But it's not just evil down there, it's bloody beautiful too. As a renegade drow main, there is nothing more important than the Underdark to me, it is home.

You realize that you gotta deal with everyone's opinion, and I MEAN EVERYONE. It's like a group of leaders fighting over who gets to have it their way. Basically I'm saying to play this game is to have the fun parts of D&D without the bullshit arguing.

When 5e hit the shelves, I took a good look and could see something like this coming. 5e solidified D&D rules to make a true mechanical representation possible. Previously, the rules were too fuzzy and up for interpretation. When 5e came out, it was clear Wizards wanted to really cement the rules, and BG3 is the greatest representation of what they were shooting for.

A little while back the same thing happened to Zoe’s videos and it’s so odd to hear both of you move away from your usually chirpy cadence you get away with in the game streams to this oddly staccato delivery that feels disappointingly drab by comparison. I can only think it’s to push out the length of the video or perhaps Americans find regional accents too difficult to follow? Nobody seems to want to make realtime isometric RPGs anymore except in the online space, but I went from the old Baldur's Gate games to Diablo to Path Of Exile & that's the one I'm still playing this many years later. It's not a singleplayer narrative-led experience, but it provides something of the same kind of joy. There was, however, a sequel to Dark Alliance called Dark Alliance II. Whether you can get that to run on current hardware, I have no idea.

I am so hyped for this game! Loving the early access, but am eagerly anticipating creating my character using the full releases customization options. Though, I may do my first playthrough as Shadowheart and romance Lae'zel, if possible. I think that'd be awesome.

Larian has stated that certain fan-favorite Player Races like the Tabaxi will become playable in future DLC updates though whether or not BG3 does well enough to warrant DLC updates adding new playable races is up in the air.

I've not found a definitive answer yet, but since everyone seems to be save scumming, I reckon you just reload the last save. There doesn't appear to be any way to get out of a fight once it begins.

Choosing which abilities/spells to use in which scenario is a lot of it, & working out how using one thing can then cause the next thing to become more powerful or useful. The idea is to basically let you play it as you would play at the tabletop, from character creation through picking how to level, whether to multiclass, etc.

Really interested in this game. Starting to get burnt out on HC Diablo 4. Just curious, i heard there will be controller support at launch. Could anyone tell me if it has it now or partial support? I'd get the game this week if it does. If not, i will have to wait until retail release. Thanks in adv

Doesn't have it at the moment, but Steam Input will let you map things to controller buttons & sticks so you can (in a bit of a clunky mouse emulation with hotkeys way) use a controller.

Nice synopsis video... There is a tiny bit of spoiler content in the background vid, but not enough context for it to ruin anyone's experience... Probably need to add that the game, right now, as found on steam and elsewhere is an Early Access version... So when the game is fully released, there will be some minor difference's in a few aspects of the game from their Early Access experience...

You'll be fine. It's really not a complicated TTRPG system as such, it's just the knowledge of all the skills, spells, abilities, etc. that would help you, but you'll soon figure that out & the game explains what each one does.
