Wizards are complete dogshit compared to sorcerers, they have the exact same drawback of long rest restrictions but do a billion less damage. Easily the worst class in the game. I find Wizard to be one of the simpler ones, to be honest, not a lot of core features besides Arcane Recovery. It all depends on the subclass of choice. If you don't know what spells to bring, think of it more like choosing what you need in a given situation, the right tool for the job, if you will. The added benefit of learning additional spells through scrolls can be wonderful because then you start to think, "How do I best make use of this?"
@tylernorman78967 ай бұрын
Fog Cloud can be used to negate ranged characters from shooting your party, giving you ample time to recover or prepare. They might even get closer to you, giving your martial an easier time. Magic Missile's damage might not be the greatest initially, but it's about the fact that it always hits and is a way to knock out a spellcaster's concentration. Something as simple as Longstrider, coupled with Ray or frost, to cause your foes a massive amount of movement disparity, that it might be all you need to deal with a big hulking ogre. Lightning Bolt offers an easier way to not hit allies close by your enemies, and it's less resisted overall for the same damage as a fireball. I'm of the opinion that all spells have a place and purpose. It just comes down to what you need. Good luck with that friend

The best part is yolu can see the portent dice each day, so you know what you have available to you.

I can't emphasize enough how powerful the level 10 ability for Conjuration wizard is. Wizards frequently take the Resilient: Constitution feat to gain advantage on Constitution saving throws so they don't lose concentration, but Conjuration wizards simply do not lose concentration on their conjuration spells which effectively frees up an additional feat for you to take. Create water is surprisingly good as you can combo it with lightning spells from your druid companions and do better AoE than an Evocation wizard. Benign transposition is also good since you usually cast at least one conjuration spell a fight and get one or two free teleports, making you the most mobile class outside of monk. Make Gale a Conjuration wizard on your next playthrough, really invest in learning all the good Conjuration spells, and you might be surprised how good it is.

Seriously though, every subclass can learn every spell in exchange for a few gold, the subclasses only matter for their perks and Evocation is, rightly or wrongly, the only one that matters. I hope they offer some buffs for conjuration at some point, like extra summons at once or more damage/hp for a summons or something to make it worth it. Edit: Oh, and Gale is a natural Enchantment wizard...tell me I'm wrong.

Absolutely, a great mind can come up with some great ideas! Three of the subclasses provide you with a way to keep your concentration with varying potency. Conjuration has the most potent effect, but only for its school, Transmuter can use their stone to get Con saves, and can even give this stone to others! Like a cleric's Spirit Guardians, for instance. Abjuration's ward will prevent you from even MAKING the check because the ward took the damage, not you. This effect also benefits other casters that you protect with the level 6 feature by giving your ward to others. You can indeed get creative!

@@zartle873 spell progression between classes stacks. So a 2Wiz/1Sor can learn lv2 spells from Scrolls and upcasted lv1 spells to lv2. The class levels only determine which spells you can learn through level-up. But CASTER LEVELS increase each time you level in a class that provides those, irrespective of which class it is. 4Druid/4Cle/4bard can only learn lv2 spells, but because each of these classes adds Caster Levels, you have the same amount of spell slots as a level 12 Wizard. I think you are overemphasizing the benefits of armor for wizards specifically. Wizards really shouldn't be frontlining and there are some really awesome robes in game that you want to use anyway. There's also 14 dex for +2, and armor increasing gear, so you can get very decent armor class as a wizard in a robe and you have the shiled spell for when you mess up. There's also gear that increases AC when not wearing armor. Not to spoil specifics, but my wizard is comfortably walking around with 20 AC and he's not even hogging all the AC gear, in a robe. Shield would be great if I had proficiency, but there are other things that I value higher. There's also creative ways to defend yourself, like darkness, or playing divination, or other creative ideas. I am playing as a gnome and having advantage on three separate mental saving throws is in my opinion worth more than armor for a wizard.

They even made it better than tabletop, in 5E it was effectively a health pool, in BG3 it absorbs the damage then ticks down by 1 for EACH instance of damage. So 10, then 9, so on so forth. So, you got your regular health, your temp health, and your Ward Health. To further add to this Thorny build, take Fire Shield, you get to choose between fire and ice resistance, and do additional retaliation damage, on TOP of the Agathys

@HuevoBendito Жыл бұрын
From personal experience, Tempest and War Domain Clerics do indeed make good gishes in the tabletop game. I imagine Tempest will be even moreso effective given that it's easy to douse enemies in water.
@tylernorman78962 ай бұрын
If ANYONE is willing to consider doing this. As a Transmuter wizard, you can juggle the stone through other characters at no cost to anyone to immediately gice them the benefit. The 10 ft. of movement speed applies to each person you give it to on each of their turns, coupled with Longstrider, you've effectively given everyone 20 ft. of movement

What is the maximum charge level for Abjuration Ward? There has to be one, otherwise the theoretical limit would be 83 based ONLY on wizard level+natural wizard spell slots. That would let you block over 50 damage per hit for at least 30 hits. Also sacrificing your entire ward to reduce ONE attack aimed at an ally seems really dumb, thoughts?

Hope in the 3 wizards builds guide you do multiclass builds for Arcane Trickster and Eldritch Knight. Everyone already knows about a level 1 dip into wizard for the other caster classes to learn all the spells, and those two suggestions are the only other classes that use intelligence as far as I remember. Great content either way man. Hope we see Baldurs Gate content from you for a long time to come.

Using a Spell Slot to cast Create Water feels kinda bad, but being able to have a free cast per long rest saves you a slot you can use for something else. Also, the utility of Create Water is quite good. Need to slow down a bunch of melee enemies, Create Water and freeze it. Fighting some enemies with dangerous Fire attacks? Use Create Water on the party to lower the damage Fire attacks deal. Enemy used a bunch of Grease spells that are annoying you, Create Water can replace the Grease! (I think lol)

I was just looking this up last night. I am going to predict the TL;DR of it is: Only Evocation matters, all the others were phoned in. This hurts my soul as Gale is an obvious match for Enchantment Wizard, and my favorite is Conjuration Wizard in 5e play. This is one area Larian fell short with many opportunities to make the subclasses matter, but they went the 'nuke only' route.

I like Abjuration personally, it enables the Wizard to be on the field longer, even if you're good about not getting hit to often, the times when you do, the Ward keeps you around, and you can give it to others, even if you're hitting your allies with your AOE spells, you can protect one if it's absolutely necessary. And it negates making concentration checks should you negate all the damage of an attack with big Ward. Conjuration Wizards might not have to worry about this as much, but being able to maintain concentration on any spells just by negating the damage of it is quite nice to me

Hello everyone i'm new to BG in general i've been seeing a bunch about BG3 and decided to play it when it comes to PS5. However i'm having trouble deciding on a class, i wanna be a dark urge zariel tiefling, self serving, preferably make evil choices depending on the situation but mainly evil. Now I wanted to be a oath breaker but I was wondering would path of vengeance be a class that i can make these evil decisions for consistently or will i have to pretty much be a good guy who just destroys the greater evil? oath breaker sounds enticing because I want to be evil but vengeance has some pretty cool abilities and seems to be the strongest. Any assistance would be great, cant wait to join in on the fun soon! Thanks in advance
@scottholmes6080 Жыл бұрын
Think of oath of vengeance like being the punisher. Yes you don't necessarily follow all the rules and can be a no compromising badass that puts down any and all who would commit sins or wrongdoings, no matter how inconsequential/little they may be, and really make them suffer if you want. But at the end of the day, you can't murder an innocent farmers family because you feel like or because you want their gold. You will at that point still become an oath breaker. But you can murder a corrupt politician and any who would defend him regardless of whether others know of their corruption

Love your guides, always look for them when I want to understand a class. But there's so few, unfortunately. Please make a guide on Cleric, I want and play with Shadowheart in my party, but I don't want to make her work as a Rogue alternative. I want her to have a more classic role of a Healer. And although Life Cleric works great so far, I would like to know all the options for her in more detail, as I am just level 5 still. It's also a good idea to make a guide about, apparently, the most popular companion's class (her and Asterion) so it will bring in more views for you.

So I made an unkillable abjuration god. One level war domain cleric. Heavy armor proficiency, extra attacks, and abjuration cantrips. One level sorc to get the shield spell from the white dragon ancestry. Then the rest in the abjuration wizard. Activate shields stand in battle. You either won't get hit or will explode dealing massive AOE damage.

fyi when he says shield spell from white dragon ancestry, he means Armor of Agathys, which is an Abjuration spell that gives you temporary hitpoints

Something I’d like to point out is that Resilient feat gives you proficiency in the saving throw of the ability you pick. This means the bonus at level 12 is +4 on top of your constitution modifier. Warcaster gives advantage on concentration checks. Advantage is approximately equivalent to a +5 bonus on any d20 roll. For concentration specifically, therefore Warcaster is better throughout the whole game.
@OniGanon Жыл бұрын
It's true, Warcaster is better for passing Concentration checks, especially at low levels. But Resilient Con gives you a stat point, and helps you resist Con save spells as well.
@tomasxfranco Жыл бұрын
Advantage is +3.3 not +5.

If you take ability improvement as your first feat, and then spare and eat a certain monster's scalp, you can hit 20 Int ridiculously early, I also like to champion ritual caster however, for roleplay and environmental reasons, I hate missing out on anything so i'm always enchanted to the nines with "speak with" or "detect" etc. Edit: Can you tell me how knock and arcane lock are useful? knock is freaking loud unless you also silence the area, and i've never had to lock anything so i feel they just threw them in as a bundle, plus i have like freaking 30 goddamn lockpicking sets cause astarions a freaking sleuth man and sports the gloves from the fight at the gate in the beginning that comes with sleight of hand plus 1. Finally, why did they have to give the necromancy subclass such a shaft for its final ability? seems weak comparatively. and i mean look what they did to transmutation!
