I do the same on my old Toyota ... put in 4 lo, but dont get out and lock the hubs

Removing the fuse prevents the front axle from engaging with that thermo couple wax motor type deal. That allows you to put the transfer case in low range but prevents the 4wd from engaging.

This is true making your transmission a two speed transmission.

I do the 2lo thing with my old chevys aswell. Only no computer in the older ones. I just don't lock the hubs. 2lo works good if you need to pull heavy on any surface where traction isn't an issue but weight/power is. Not too many people seem to understand that simple concept but then again I'm not too surprised considering most people these days can't drive with a standard trans. The older ways are definitely disappearing fast. Nice to see it still alive and well there. cheers

Seems like I remember the older fords having a 2 low position on the 4 wheel shifter.
