Ancient holy sites include the intricately carved Goa Gajah (“Elephant Cave”) and Gunung Kawi, with its rock-cut shrines.

Balinese Hinduism is not the same as in India. There are many indigeneous beliefs and rituals, which are quite dissimilar to Hinduism from India. But in the Indonesian constitution 5 faiths are recognized officially. As Balinese beliefs did not qualify to be called islam or christianity or Buddhist or Judaism, they opted for the category of Hinduism. But Ibdian Hindus get confused by Balinese Hindu practices.
