I am an Indonesian and I lived in Bali for more than 5 years, but somehow I am still attracted to the content of your videos. I love how calm and genuine both of you are, actually similar to Balinese people. In a way, you both and Bali are meant for each other, I guess other than like-minded people attract each other, a place also can attract the same energy people 😂. I was born in Jakarta and live there most of my life, but Bali is the place I always call home.

That might be the nicest thing anyone has ever said about us, thank u very much for that lovely compliment. I think the positive energy of Bali makes us better people, all the wonderful attributes of the Balinese too. Being in a space we feel is safe, open and welcoming lets us be the best versions of ourselves. And of course, i think (n hope!) Bali has that effect on all its visitors, u, me and everyone else. I'm so tired of the world being filled with unpleasant beings. I hope u can return to Bali to live one day again!

Nice one Guys. One of the great breakfasts is at Warung Mak Beng. As soon I get back to Bali it is on my to do list again. Sanur is on the other side coast from where I stay but a breakfast at this 'special and historic" warung is worth getting up for and driving over to Sanur to have!

It is said that the best way to learn about a country and its culture is through its cuisine. Jean, you n Vitaly are getting well-educated on Indonesia, particularly Bali! We, your viewers, are also learning about the richness of Balinese culture. It's our expanding understanding of other cultures that help us get along with one another in a harmonious and enriching way. Everybody wins! Thanks for sharing and helping know more about Bali. BTW, would you say that last delicacy is comparable to the Indian rojak in Singapore? Safe travels to you both. 🥰🙏
@JeanVoronkova3 жыл бұрын
hey there! nice note u left us, thanks so much! I've been to Indonesia n Bali many times before on shorter holidays but it is really on this time around, when we r settled in and living seriously here, that i am truly exploring and starting to appreciate the depths of their culture, history and their culinary traditions, and there's so much to take it! n its all very awesome. The Lumpiang is a little little bit similar to rojak just in concept. In taste the petis sauce is differet from the SG rojak sauce and there's no peanut crumbs all over which is v common in the SG rojak. The fried stuff tastes different too the tempe is absolutely rockin! its very nice! come try!

I guess I was ignorant and assumed Indonesian food would look similar to Thai or a Chinese food. Looks totally different to me! How does it compare to Singaporean food? Do you think it's totally different? What are the similarities?
@nurnur-qo5sx3 жыл бұрын
Some Indonesian food espescialy the famous nasi Padang is more Indian influenced with complex and thick curry. The common Indonesian veggies in java however similar with Taiwan style cooking.
@JeanVoronkova3 жыл бұрын
Hate to break it to u Ed.... but there's also a difference between indonesian cuisine and balinese! lol! There are some superficial similarities to Singaporean food but i would say generally the balance of the flavours and general tastes lie in very different directions. Also they cook with amazing spices here... like the local ginger... the herbs the scallions chilli etc all have a very amazing taste different from what i was used to in SG.... so food here seems a lot more aromatic even the simple nasi campur home style cooking at the warungs. Vitaly & I love Singaporean food (laksa, char kway teow etc) and now Indonesian & Balinese cuisine are our new loves too! The local indo chinese style food is rather similar to SG chinese style cooking though! Nasi campur here also more or less not supremely different from nasi padang in SG. But like the balinese Nasi Ayam Betutu and Babi Guling dishes are super special must tries from a Singaporean's perspective!!!

And actually you can order the menu a’la carte so if i go with my sister, i always order 2 rice, 2 fried fish, 1 soup and 1 fish’s egg (so we share the portion because the soup too much if i order 1 portion for each).

Aaaa Sanur my favorite beach in Bali! Because I spent most of my childhood holidays there 🥰 Such a bummer that I didn't get to visit it when I went back home last July due to PPKM 😩 So happy you posted a video of your afternoon there 😻

@@JeanVoronkova Actually I do not eat seafood at all. No fish, no prawns, no crabs. Nothing. But i used to love fishing & until now when I visit anywhere, I love looking at fish markets & fish sections of supermarkets.

Hmm nice comfort food. The bakso reminds me of the Fuzhou fish ball.

Such simple pleasure of life, always so heart warming to see u both Vitaly always have that intense gaze when eating lol How’s the beach condition? With so many people eating there is it littered with plastic n leftover?
@JeanVoronkova3 жыл бұрын
lol haha its so true he's very focused on his food haha! the beach is great theres no litter i think the local people here have very good habits n most r quite conscious about the environment.
