I think Indonesia is great because of the diversity. Bali is Hindu-majority, then if you head east to Lombok it’s Muslim-majority, and if you go further east to Flores it’s Catholic-majority. Bali and Lombok each has its own charm. Bali might be touristic but it is also steep in culture and tradition, while most people in Lombok are just like the rest of us third-world residents who are preoccupied with making a living and survive the day-to-day struggle. If you find Bali a bit too stifling you can jump over to Lombok to wind down, and when you’re in need of all the touristic trappings then you just jump back to Bali. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it, too 😊

No worries :) Indonesian Rupiah is the best way to pay with. You're able to get cash out via an ATM. BNI Bangk is giving good rates. 15.000 IDR = 1USD. It's not common to pay in USD. Most places (except from local markets and food stalls, small restaurants) you can pay by credit card. I hope this helps 🤗

I came ot lombok for two weeks originally, then went home quit my job nad have lived here for 10 years. I started ou working and livingin Selong Belanak, then lived in Kuta, but today with wife and kids we live in Mataram the capital. WHIch is barely the size of a middle sized English town, but has Cinema, mall, and is still surrounded by the beautiful mountains and Rice fields. We have our project in Kuta, but it is difficult to live in as it is the point of major development. It's also only 15 min flight or between 1 or 4 hours ot get to Bali for crazy party life if you want. (ALthough Gili AIr is better!)

@@Chai_Travel vast vast sections (something like >95%)are undeveloped and will remain so, some people will tell you it is hte next Bali, this oculdnt be further from the truth, they dont want to be Bali. they have put large infra projects in place, so the Bali traffic is unlikley to occur here, and it is far more the 'anti Bali' in eventual outlook. Different vibes entirely.

For nature, beaches and beauty, Lombok is better than Bali. The "problem" of Lombok are the locals (obviously for foreigners); compared to Bali, people are less friendly, less open minded and often grumpy. Foreigners would not live so safe in Lombok outside of the tourist areas (Kuta, Sengigi, etc etc). In Lombok you will not meet smiling people at traffic lights asking you "where are you from", you will not meet friendly people in any far village of ​​the island, you will not be surrounded by an atmosphere of tolerance. Unlike Bali, I still feel that security in Lombok is not very safe. In Bali I can leave my motorbike and the key without fear of losing it, but in Lombok don't try it or it will get lost. Lombok is for a short vacation, Bali is forever.

Though I've never been (yet) to either Bali or Lombok, Bali has never interested me because of its reputation as being a party island with drunk and raucous Australians (mainly) my husband had been to Bali 40 odd years ago. We are due there middle of June - only one night in Bali before going to Lombok for two weeks. We chose Lombok because of the quietness and more cultural aspect. We are prepared because we are respectful of their traditions. I have a couple of pashmina to cover my head for the mosques and temples. I have some more modest dresses. I have no interest in the fast paced touristy, noisy life of Bali.

Overpopulation of tourists in Bali creates traffic jams. the government and citizens of Bali must also promote other islands. so that tourists don't pile up in Bali. such as the islands of Lombok, Sumbawa, Komodo

Most of Java also has terrible traffic jams due to overpopulation in non tourist locations (Bandung, Yogyakarta etc) I don't think its any better than Denpasar, with that said I hate traffic but Indonesia is such a pretty country that the traffic shouldn't put you off visiting places, Jakarta for example despite its traffic is still an easy city to get around, but that's because roads and pavements are bigger there than in Bali and most of Java, I would say head further east in the archipelago for less traffic.

Bedanya Bali dan Lombok cuma 1bali bebas karna sebagain warga nya beragam Hindu . Sedangkan lombok mayoritas muslim . Ke dia Bali pembangunan nya jauh di atas lombok karna Bali dari jaman dulu sudah jadi pusat wisata Indonesia . Not in all of the restaurants but you’ll be easily able to find it :) the majority is Muslim and they won’t sell alcohol.

there is a saying that if you go to Lombok you can still see Bali,...but if you go to Bali you won't be able to see Lombok,...meaning that you can see traditional Balinese Hindus in Lombok, but traditional Lombok people which you can't see in Bali

Lombok, Manado, Labuan Bajo will be the next Tourist place other than Bali...... we got alternatives here now... Lombok I thinks it's 60% muslims and 40% hindus because I saw local cultures in Lombok have a high Balinese influence but with Sasak Origins.... Looks weird but it's cool actually, it's kinda blend. And to be honest in terms of Sea, I would say Lombok is much cleaner.... Anyway, you should go to Manado next time, it's a Culinary city and will be the next Tourism....

Things will be just look as normal. No worries about the Ramadan. Just keep in mind you’re not offering food, drinks or cigarettes to anyone during day time. It’s a great time to go regardless if you ask me :)
