I've been exposed to it a bit through yoyoing since both are in the same genre of a skill toy. I think they're great if you can do the tricks, but as a tool, I'd rather carry any other knife. I'd rather not carry a karambit either. I know a friend of a friend who acts all badass with his, but everyone knows he's just an edge lord with it. I carry an OTF, but at least it's usable as a knife.

Fun fact: The karambit belongs to the list of dedicated tools weaponized. It started life as a knife used for cutting material into strips and root cutting more specifically. That's why it has a strange curve to it and is held in reverse grip. It allows the user to get a good pull going. The butterfly knife is just an unusual switchblade style knife, and is illegal to carry in a lot of places.

In Indonesia, karambit knife is actually a hidden weapon that is often associated with Tiger style silat. This particular style has a very low stance with finishing their opponents on the floor so you could imagine how dangerous it would be if they had a knife in their hands

The balisong is only good as a distraction or a offensive dagger in a fight it was primarily used in the Phillipines as a utility knife because the 2 handle construction proved to be very durable compared to one handle and pin where the blade could break and go backwards this design evolved and became better to flip as people flipped it more and eventually made a kind of pseudo martial arts with them karambits are fairly good in a fight but only for cutting you cant actually stab with one which is a masssssive drawback for a knife i still like balis better because the flipping is more satisfying for me Edit karambits are also used as utility knives for electricians because the hawk talon blade is really good at stripping wires (its also good at cutting rope)

You know what people say about reverse grip. And the Karambit is basically a knife meant to be held in a reverse grip normally, so... Oof
@-jax-3631
@-jax-3631 Жыл бұрын
Reverse grip is bad if you're sword fighting, if you brought a knife to a sword fight you fucked up anyways. If you know what you're doing the reverse grip for knife fighting is very effective. Just think about how dangerous a mma fighter or a boxer is, then attach knives to his fists.

We have some training karambits and usually new guys will always beg to use one for sparring. Always happy to accomidate, but they usually find out pretty quick they are horrible as a fighting weapon. Its the edgy kids knife. That being said ive bought a few and made a few and they sure are fun to flip around. Also they are exceedingly good at their intended purpose, as a gardening tool. I even use it in wood working every once in awhile. And i would say its probably better than nothing in a fight, but you lose the ability to thrust and the ring is more likely to break your finger in a fight.

As someone who does Filipino martial arts. Balisongs are actually quite practical. Makes a great less lethal weapon when closed too. Good for edc tasks as well. Just don't edc a super cheap one because looks and parts come lose on those.

Attach your balisong knife into the propellers of an RC helicopter. Go to a terrace and control it from there. Hack your bad guy with the RC while hes riding a bike, taking a piss on the wall, on the stairs, while hes carrying something heavy, while tying his shoes, while hes sitting down. XD
