One great hack in this option is in Colours tab in export settings. Check the box to preserve Revit colours. It will export revit drawing exactly in the same colours/thickness as in original PDF file that would be produced in Revit and !!! it can be exported to print in CAD without adding any plot style. It will have exact the same colours, hatching and lines when in paper space in CAD and can be checked in print preview option. This is very important as the whole programming/copying colouring would not be necessary in most cases, as the colour code important in CAD just so it works with specified plot style for printing. When you don’t need plot style, colour re-coding is also not needed. Also handy to uncheck the box to make sure all attached files in revit drawings are all embedded in the exported dwg file and not exported as X-ref files unless they need to be separate. In practice if office works in Revit they normally have most of the project work in Revit and the only times they need CAD files is for external consultants who might not have Revit and in most cases it is only for their references. So this specific colour coding might be useless as all offices have their own colour coding and plot styles.

I think you should show how to do this in a real-world scenario, something that can be repeatable and loadable from a TXT file. For example, if a mechanical company gets a model from an architect and needs to export it to AutoCAD. They can have their layer standard created in a text file and load it to any outside company model. This way they don’t have to go down one by one renaming layers and overlooking something. Great topic BTW!

This is my personal view, not from the Studio: Someone at Autodesk was having too much fun when programming Revit... It is diabolic and even more when you realize both Autocad and Revit come from the same organization.

Here's a question. The firm I work for gets government work sometimes, and that particular agency has a set of CAD standards we must follow, including their own pen style, an .stb file. Is it possible to export the revit file to a CAD template file that has the layers and pen style pre-defined? Essentially, I want to populate a template .dwg file with the linework and geometry from Revit.

Thank you for the tutorial. Is there a way to merge multiple sheets in a single CAD file? I need this file to contain the view information so im able to actually make changes on it, but I also need to display the drawing in a titleblock in CAD, as its displayed in a revit sheet. Can't find a way around it.

So, the only answer is to do it by hand, rename it, and type in everything. What is the point of exporting from AutoCAD to a .txt file?

Hey Balkan and fellow viewers, I created a 'File Name' parameter in my titleblock; it has project number, sheet number etc with a suffix '.PDF'. Is there a way to copy the value of this parameter on my clipboard so I could paste it to my pdf sheets file name when I want to save them?

Choose a 3d view and export. But pay attention to the Solid/Polyface mesh export. I Prefer it to be solid elements (better for subtracting/adding)

Surely this is not pro tips & we have more problems while RVT to CAD than Re-assigning Standard Layers.
