Hey Squirrel, these are supposed to be full VFR trips, without GPS. The first one (Arizona-Yosemity) doesn't give any information (you're flying the Savage Cub). I'm really not sure why they provided a 172 with the entire route pre-programmed into the GPS for the Balkans one. Right now you're spending 80% of your time watching your nav instruments instead of looking outside for the VFR cues (and the best views you'll get on these trips). Would have made more sense if they gave you the 152 for this one. For the best experience/enjoyment I advise deleting the route from the Garmin, and not look at the GPS map. These challenges are a lot of fun if you try to fly them from the notes + the non-GPS map from the top bar. Feel free to play them however you like though.

I'm about halfway through the Patagonia one, and the descriptions are not particularly good. Lots of references to stuff that you can't know (placenames etc). If the map had placenames on and the plane didn't show its own location on the Garmin... they'd be ok

@@williamstrachan I agree that the descriptions alone are not enough, but they give you the compass heading as well in the notes. Those two combined are good enough to let me complete them. That said, I have had instances where I had to circle over an area 1 or 2 times to figure it out.
@Andy-ko3zt4 жыл бұрын
Both the last two Bush Trips give you a full glass cockpit and I was quite disappointed because it's meant to be a VFR challenge. With GPS you can just look at the in-game VFR map (which you are supposed to use) and compare the map with your GPS display so it's quite pointless. The Yosemite one is proper VFR but the scenery wasn't so great (desert, basically). Another issue is that there are very few aircrafts in the Standard Edition that doesn't have a glass cockpit with all the fancy 3D synthetic vision, which makes both VFR and IFR way too easy and not challenging at all!

I have done only this first leg of the balkans trip, and haven't started the patagonia trip. But I did the entire sierra nevada trip, and I highly recommend starting with that one for anyone watching who's interested. No GPS or autopilot, so you really get a feel for what the game is probably going for (I wouldn't even say "realistic VFR flying" - honestly the most enjoyable way to do it is flying with an exterior camera), and the savage cub is an extremely friendly plane for that. Of course it would be fun to see Squirrel or anyone else with real world VFR experience tackle these using real world charts and the like, but I found the trip to be just a very relaxing way to take in the scenery from an exterior view. Also a note of caution to Squirrel or anyone else just starting these, at least when I did it there was no obvious way to refuel. I had to bind a key for "repair and refuel" or somesuch to use in the middle of the trip. The game seems to save the state of your aircraft between legs (including if you quit mid-leg; it'll resume midair until you then manually restart the leg) so it doesn't ever refill the tanks, and at least so far it doesn't seem as if ground services function on the bush trips as they do elsewhere, which I assume isn't quite intended. That said these trips seem to be a wonderful concept and I can't wait to see if they add more, or if third party creators are able to add them with similar fidelity.
@Chrysophrase24 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I ran out of fuel mid trip in Arizona. Had to hunt in the options for refueling, and it felt a bit like cheating. In the future I hope ground services are working in the bush trips and they remind you to use them in the notes. Here's hoping for homebrew VFR routes soon.
@arrashonam56974 жыл бұрын
I have flown the first leg of this trip and the entire Sierra Nevada trip (which I also highly recommend). About the fuel. I ran into the same issue. The ground services do not function on the bush trips, so pulling up to a fuel pump does not give you the option to fuel up. To get around this, I also bound a key for "repair and refuel" (I used alt-f). I added realism back into it by only using it when I was at a fueling station - and not every stop had one. That made me be conscience of my fuel levels at all times. It seemed to work well for me. As for the Sierra Nevada trip, it was definitely an excellent trip with a great finale. Highly recommended.

You did a great job. The challenge was much harder than it had to be due to lack of a decent VFR chart. You made a comment about what appeared to be a man-made canal not being straight. The reason that they are designed to meander is to reduce the velocity of the water flow. This lessens bank erosion and makes a better wildlife habitat. Near where I live, there is a creek that was "straightened out" in the 70's. Now the local government is spending a small fortune to put it back the way it was. :)

In a recent interview they mentioned that they want to do more in the future. They explained it in the way that they'll keep improving areas of the world by taking real world 45° aerial images and increasing the number of handcrafted airports and whenever they have finished improving the scenerie of a larger area somewhere in the world they might do events / quests like the bush trips to guide people through the updated sceneries. Personally I think that's a very good plan and a good idea to keep it interesting even for people that might not be hardcore sim players. The interview was on the Gamestar channel but it's in German. They also gave little hints that they're working on something with voice input / recognition or similar. I'm wondering if we'll be able to speak to the ATC by voice at some point. Maybe something Iike VATSIM, but with the computer ATC / voice recognition. I think that should be possible because the phrases are usually always very similarly structures so only the different accents could be a problem. Considering the later Xbox launch it would make even more sense because those players can't use the cool mods / add-ons like VATSIM.

I love bush trips. The directions are always fun to try and follow if you dont know the area. To really get the most out of it and do it the way a bush trip usually is, dont look at or care about map markers and dont follow a line. Just look outside and find the visual description of the places and things and use the stopwatch. A map is ok but bush trips are a special kind of VFR where its basically all by looking out the window. EDIT: also the descriptions arent great because they rely on place names. Use a map on your tablet or something to find those if you need it but it really is fun to navigate by directions like "follow the path until a large bridge and then turn north along the cliff side for 4min until you see a town to your east." Real one by people that know the area are much more descriptive of the landscape and what you see with very little name usage.

Hi Squirrel! Love the channel! I just finished this entire Bush Trip a few days ago. If you're planning to do the whole 7+ hour 16-leg trip, I found a small "bug" in the leg 13, Kopaida Dimitra Airport. It's the final grass runway you land on. On the last Point Of Interest entry for the Airport (11, I believe) The picture of the airfield isn't correct. The strip is actually one "block" further "south" from the perspective of the Point Of Interest picture. I've already submitted a bug report for this so maybe it will be in next week's patch. Until it's fixed, go to Bing Maps, search for "Skydive Athens, Kopaida Airfield, Athens, Greece," and you will see the airfield in relation to the incorrect picture in the sim. It will be rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Hope this helps you and your viewers. Happy flying!
