You really need to have a pump equipped with a pressure governor to get the most out of this setup. When you open the valve and set the discharge pressure to 80psi, which at that time will be static, the governor will maintain that pressure as you begin to flow water. Another good reason to use the gate valve.

Thinking this could be the solution with my Volunteer Company. If I ever show up to a fire by myself. So is it safe to charge the deck gun and crank up the psi , then climb then Engine and open the gate valve without damaging the pump or valves ? ( I can still see having to make 2 separate trips to the top of the Engine but at least using the gate valve I would not waste as much water )

What would you use for a friction lose pressure increase since youve now added another appliance into the equation?

The gate valve has a full 2.5" waterway when fully open so this friction loss would be field insignificant. It is unlike a wye, Siamese, manifold, or the like.

You'll have to keep an eye on the gate valve over time, the pressure of the water against the gate while opening and closing will cause the gate to wobble and bleed through at some point. Just a heads up.
