I just received mine today. In the video you are winding clockwise, but the instructions recommend winding counter-clockwise. Does it matter? This is a lovely machine. It smells so good out of the box, like new wood rubbed with some nice finish. It looks to be very well made. I can't wait to use it.

I think I would like having the option to use this without a C-clamp. I broke the clamp on my Stanwood jumbo ball winder trying to clamp it against the underside of a card table (too much of a lip to maneuver the C-clamp past before reaching a flat surface for the clamp to snug against; Stanwood did send me an improved replacement clamp, though). With smaller plastic yarn winders, I have to clamp them against the pull-out cutting board in my kitchen cabinets, which isn't very stable. Hopefully I can save up enough to get a Fiber Artist Supply Co. yarn winder at a time when they're in stock!

What am I doing wrong because as I wind and I’m at least 1/4 in the yarn starts Togo below the winding yarn ball, then I have to stop and go really really slow and hold yarn up by the ball, like I need a extra hand. It’s frustrating, I am new at this so any help would be great. Thank you

I like the way mine works, but I found two flaws. First of all, it's not great for homespun yarn. I did one and then accidentally dropped it. It didn't just unwind, it almost exploded and I had a hard time untangling it to re-wind it. The second thing is minor, but I found it wasn't good for large skeins. I had to make several small balls from one super saver skein.

Diane Bajorinas try adjusting the tension. Winding a large ball shouldn’t be an issue if you move the yarn guide out

Can this be used without a swift? I often get yarn skeins that only have one end on the outside free and I prefer my yarn be center pull.

It can be used without a swift as long as you're able to keep even tension from wherever you're winding from.
