Segura has a club option not player. The Phillies will make the decision of whether to accept Segura’s $17 million club option or not. If accepted, Segura’s salary will count for only about $14 million against the luxury tax threshold since that figure is equivalent to the average annual value of his contract. The club’s current projected payroll for the 2023 season, according to Spotrac, is about $130 million--significantly lower than the team’s $252 million payroll this season. With the 2023 luxury tax scheduled for a $3 million increase to $233 million, the Phillies certainly have enough wiggle room to make several acquisitions. So most likely we'll see Jean back .... Need to figure out a way to dump Hoskins and move Bohm to 1B or move Hoskins and sign Rizzo to play 1B

This also has to do with the content creators knowledge of the mariners. To me, it’s absurd not having the mariners as contenders, if not, favorites for all of the shortstops (except for Correa). That said, can’t blame the dude for not being privy to all the nuances of all organizations. It’s easy to put out off-season content with Rangers, Dodgers, Mets, Yankees being the favorites for everyone.

@Peter Lopez I think to best address this question, it helps to bucket WHY players make decisions on specific teams. - Pay, location, competitive potential, proximity to family, etc. etc. With that in mind, we've seen several players (Luis Castillo, Robbie Ray) publicly stating that they are attracted to the culture, hustle, and passion for improving the team. It's an exciting team to watch - young, hungry, and passionate. Whilst I'll submit the notion that the travel and weather are undesirable (for most people), the Robbie Ray, Julio, and Castillo contracts show an increased aggressive propensity to lock-up high AAVs and contractual benefits. Your comment, even 9 months ago, made sense. The Julio and Castillo extensions are game-changers.

Since they have solid or better options on every spot in the lineup and the staff is solid BUT i think they need to let Marco go and find a T. Walker type player to anchor the back end of the staff that is more consistent, Then last but not least the pen while it has good stats and such could use a vet who still has gas in him to bolster the pen like a David Robertson TYPE.

Angels don't have as much of a payroll as people seem to think. They have plenty of money to spend, they really gotta push for Rodon. They should be able to also get one of the big shortstops, part of the problem is when Rendon is injured, so most of the time, their infield is just completely useless. I hope they learn their lesson and go for a lot of the mid market agents though. If Rendon becomes good again, and they get Rodon and/or one of the shortstops, they'll have a great top of the lineup and 2 great starting pitchers. The problem is everyone else on the team is so awful, they just need to fill the team with average to slightly above average players. This year Trout and Ohtani carried the team so many times and the rest of the team still found a way to blow it horribly. It's ok for Trout and Ohtani to carry the team, everyone else just can't immediately blow it afterwards.

As a Braves fan, I love Swanson and he was the leader of the team this year but if the reports are true that he declined the rumored offer, then he's good as gone. The offer that was rumored, $100 mill for probably 4 or 5 years, is what most teams in the league would offer and is pretty much what he's worth. If I were to guess; he probably declined because he wanted a longer contract and a 1 or 2 million extra. The biggest problem with that is the fact the Braves have unknown talent in their farm system. They're probably already eyeing someone in highschool to draft that could debut on the team in four to five years. Which is the exact length Dansby's contract would be. I like Vaughn but he fits better as a second baseman; Plays good defense put not to the point he should be your everyday starting shortstop. If they do decide to keep Vaughn as a starter it's most likely because they're gonna move Albies back to shortstop and put him at second base. He's most likely going to be a bridge shortstop/second baseman until they find a permanent shortstop to replace Dansby. Unless Vaughn ends up completely destroying all expectations and becomes a star SS/2B, I don't see him as a reason why the Braves shouldn't give Dansby what he wants.

I don't see the Braves planning on Grissom being an everyday player next year unless it's in left. Kid has potential but isn't ready yet. If they can't resign Swanson, they will go hard for Bogarts or maybe Turner, though I actually think Turner would be a downgrade.
@eulalawrence841
@eulalawrence841 Жыл бұрын
@@wingracer1614 I wouldn't say adding Turner would be a downgrade, considering how much he brings to the offensive side of the ball. Whatever you lose with Dansby leaving defensively, Turner makes up for it offensively. With his contact skills, speed, and ability to get on base there's a reason why people consider him the best shortstop in the league. The MAIN thing you lose with Dansby leaving is his leadership and clutch hitting. I do get where you're coming from though and I agree with everything else you said. At the end of the day, I still prefer Dansby over any other shortstop. He's not the best at anything specifically, but he's probably the best all arounder at that position. If his asking price is over 25 mill for 7 years I can see the hesitation from the Braves' point of view.
@wingracer1614
@wingracer1614 Жыл бұрын
@@eulalawrence841 Look at the numbers. Turner was better offensively last year than Swanson but not by much. Meanwhile, depending on what stats you go by, Swanson could be argued the best defensively while Turner was near the bottom. That's why Swanson actually had a slightly higher WAR than Turner. Defense does matter at SS, especially with the new rules coming next year. Plus Swanson is a year younger and so far has got better every year. I feel he has the better upside. As for Turner being the best SS, not based on last year. Swanson and Lindor were better with Bogarts right there with him. All that being said, if Turner is willing to give the Braves a sort of home team discount and Swanson is not, I'd be happy with him. A little money saved could help fix left field or replace Jansen.

Phils need an infielder, probably a ss. I like Trea and Correa. They need to trade Rhys, his defense has been one of the worst for years, and his trade value right now is pretty good. The two biggest holes in the lineup are with Knizner and DeJong. Mo said he's going after a catcher. Now, that's fine, but the options at catchers aren't NEARLY as good as the options at Shortstop. I don't think the Cardinals will even really go after Wilson Contreras. That leaves players like Christian Vazquez (if the Astros don't pick up the team option) and Sean Murphy (if the A's are willing to trade him and/or the Cardinals are willing to give up the needed prospects for him). I would much rather have a Swanson or a Turner to that. A move at short would also solidify both the outfield and DH spots because both Edman and Donovan can play in the outfield. You could have Swanson/Turner at short and Edman/Donovan can fill any hole in the outfield or at DH (though their defense is valuable) that's needed. The worst-case scenario for the Cardinals I think would be if they filled the hole at catcher, and not shortstop, and then continued to play DeJong. I'm all for giving struggling players chances to come back, but DeJong has had his chances. Edman and Donovan are better both offensively and defensively. DeJong is basically just a free out for the other team, and if the Cardinals try to fill the hole behind the plate and not at short, they at least need to stop playing DeJong. Lots of people say they need a big starter. I see their reasoning, but I don't agree with this. Wainwright is coming back, Mikolas is still there, Monty has one more year on his contract, Flaherty and Matz will be ready to start next year. If those five guys perform like we know they can, that is a GOOD starting rotation. In case of injury, you can turn to people like Pallante, Hudson, (perhaps) Hicks, etc. The pitching (both starting and bullpen) is solid enough to at least start a season. If more pitchers are needed, a deadline deal would be appropriate. For how badly the Cardinals played against the Phillies, the pitching (besides Helsley) was outstanding. Offense has been the reason why the Cardinals have been eliminated from the playoffs since 2019. If they don't fix the offense, they won't be able to make a deep run. The pitching staff had needs last year, but those are basically dealt with. An offensive splash could transform this team.

Do some research, Xander Bogaerts is an average fielding shortstop looking to lock in for 10 years. They have Marcelo Mayer with all the tools 2 years away with Trevor Storey as an insurance policy. Sign Devers for 10 years and you will have one of the best young infields in Baseball in 2024 Devers, Mayer, Storey, Casas.

For me the Phillies perfect off-season would be to first sign Trea Turner. It would be Turner and Stott at SS/2B. I would settle for Correa. Trade Hoskins for a middle rotation pitcher. Try Schwarber at first, I know it wouldn’t be a huge defensive upgrade. Sign Benintendi to play left. Sign Nate Eovaldi. Rotation would be Wheeler, Nola, Eovaldi, guy you traded Rhys for, and Ranger. Bruce would move back to RF and Nick would DH. I do also like Abreu as a Rhys replacement, but I’ll stick with Schwarber for now. Also need to bring in some bullpen pieces.

Dodgers have had every opportunity to extend Trea, and he's openly said that no one has approached him from the organization. I think Dodgers would be just as in on Correa as Bogaerts. Turner's defense was hit or miss this season, and with the shift getting nerfed, defense is going to be more important than ever.

These SS gotta be beyond happy the dodgers are 100% gonna pay one of them. The dodgers don’t have a serious backup option if trea leaves. Which I think he is, if Friedman felt he was their guy he would have made a offer trea wouldn’t say no to and he never has. The dodgers other option is Gavin Lux who hasn’t lived up to what he was supposed to be, last season was his best season but still not what he was supposed to be .. also he’s a horrible headache defensively and don’t have a top SS prospect on the way.. SS isn’t a position like LF where you can just have anyone. That’s usually a position winning teams have locked down by a stud. The dodgers are 100% paying one of the big 4 free agent SS .They also have over 100 mil coming off payroll this offseason between Bauer suspension and bad contracts

Anderson signed till 2025 he ain't going nowhere even if he was a free agent . I don't see the Xander bogarts thing happening not because wouldn't be awesome .I dnt see them paying big bucks for infielder . There most likely going to keep Anderson at SS and from what Elvis Andrus did last yr probably sign him to 2b and there priority is right field . Normally I would say they would be in on rodon again.. But who really knows. We don't have a cheap owner. Iknow a lot of people want to say that. We tried to get big time free agents they just choose to go elsewhere. Let's put it this way. When we went after Machado and Harper. Machado got 300mill Harper got what 330. Whitesox offered them nothing think 290 but with incentives clause meaning garunteed 290 but if they hit certain amount of homeruns and rbis mvp or batting title golden glove. Etc if one of them would of taking the deal and hit those incentives would've been far lucrative then what they actually took from Philly's and padres. Think of it like our closers deal people were scratching there head at it but technically he's off the books this yr even though he's under contract. The way they make deals is actually better then how most clubs just throw money at people.

The guy is injured too much and they are crazy enough to give him a shit ton of money. I see the Rangers signing Carlos Rodon and also Chris Bassitt potentially. We will also bring back Martin Perez if everything works out. So Chris Bassitt Carlos Rodon Martin Perez Jon Gray and the 5th starter spot is up for grabs. Our farm system is full of young talent the pitching should be drastically improved this season.
