Your channel has fast become one of my favorite channels on KZbin. Thank you very much for all the effort you put into it for us. Your barre videos are sometimes challenging for someone who does ballet just for fun, but that makes them even more enjoyable, and me even prouder when I finish them.

For these who also find it too fast: it helps to slow down the speed from standard to 0,75 and after some practise go back to normal again :)

I am so happy after this terrific (and challenging) barre. I adore you, Kathryn! I am utilizing your tutorials so much that the other day, while driving home from ballet class, still sweaty and barely out of the parking lot, I wanted to hurry home to do a tutorial with you. Crazy, right? My day just didn't seem right without a KM session. I have only been studying ballet for six years, so I still feel like I need the watchful eyes of teachers to protect dance habits that are still forming. I take two live classes each week and use your tutorials two or three times each week in between. The music is beautiful and your expressions, even in practice, are so lovely. Your sweet personality makes it fun to study and work hard with you. Thank you so much!

wow, I won't have a lot of time for ballet classes this summer, and while this isn't an exact replacement for class (bc there's no teacher to correct me), at least it will be a way for me to keep up with my technique over the summer so I won't be so far behind once I start back up with class in the fall! Thank you so much for these!

Hurrah! Thanks to various new exercises I've learned from you during last two weeks I found out today that grand rond de jambes became for me unbelievably easy! :-) And I did this particular barre for the first time today so it couldn't be improved by practising grand rond de jambes... They used to be a bit squeaky, weird and definitely not favorite despite my efforts to work on my technique. Today it was like discovering flying abilities :-D Thank you for this great joy :-)

Heehee, that's a "grand rond de jambe jete" according to Vaganova's Basic Principles of Classical Ballet. It's a mouthful when you're explaining an exercise though, I often abbreviate that to "rond jete" when teaching. Anyway, I'm full of esoteric ballet tidbits, hopefully that are helpful/interesting. Love the new music.

Thanks for making all these helpful videos! If you are looking for ideas for another exercise/barre video, would you consider doing one for strengthening the back of the thighs? That's the weakest part of my leg and as a result, when I do leaps (especially leap in second) it looks like i'm marking cause my legs are not strong enough to help me jump to a reasonable height, and fouettés are hard as well cause I can only hold my leg to about 80 degrees in front and maybe 45 a la second. Anyway, long comment over. Thanks for the helpful videos! (:
@thelisarahman8 жыл бұрын
Wow that was difficult. I like the difficulty of the workout, but I found myself losing the combos halfway through because I was trying to focus on my body. Can you explain the combos in full then call out when you switch from front to side to back and so on? That would help in remembering the combo so I can work on the strengthening part instead of the memorization. I plan to work this routine multiple times a week and repetition will definitely help in remembering. Thanks! I love these. Makes me miss ballet :)

Kathryn I do appreciate the intros but is it also possible for you to talk us through a bit while you're doing the work full out to music? Just a few words to guide so I don't have to watch the screen so closely. Is that too "beginner"? Thanks so much, I am so glad I found your channel!
@kathryn_morgan10 жыл бұрын
Thank you for mentioning that! The problem is that I do the barre to the same music there in the studio but there is a bad echo. So when I edit the video, I take the sound out and put a clean track of the music back in. So the talking would also be taken out because I have to do it along with the music so it synchs! I will work on an alternative though!

At my studio we call the "kick thing" a "rond de jambe jete". Thank you so much for this. It was harder than I anticipated! My hip flexors are working hard in this barre (doing it for the first time) - is this incorrect? i.e. should my rotators, glutes and core be feeling it more than my hip flexors?
