There is a BBC programme of the original creators of this ballet (Dowell and Sibley) being coached by Ashton in the 80s in this very pas de deux. His level of detail that he requires is astonishing. It is a wonderful film. I watched it again on KZbin previously.

Perfect example of Ashton's ppds. They are unitary, you don't see to different people only the unity, the merging into one unit!
@dronesclubhighjinks Жыл бұрын
That pdd is incredibly charming! I'm adding it to my playlist right now! When the male fairy in green first entered the stage, it almost looks like he was shimmering, but that must've been the effect of the lighting and the ombre green to very pale green or white leggings to shoes. There were a number of elements in that dance I have never seen before and I'm glad when you point out how difficult things are because we non-dancers need these things explained to us so we can appreciate it more fully. I love your matching dresses, too! Very classic-looking to match your teacups and background. ❤ Thank you very much for the video and please do a whole video on A Midsummer -Knight- Night's Dream! 🥰🙏💐💐🩰💧🦌

So that's what a prima ballerina assoluta looks like in full flow - very impressive. Another wonderful example of Ashton's brilliance at distilling a long story into a short ballet (like A Month in the Country and Romeo & Juliet) by going straight to the essence of the characters involved, as well as making difficult choreography look so effortless that a lot of people seem to think he's a pretty second-rate choreographer for just doing easy stuff - if only they could watch this channel, they'd get quite a lesson! Would absolutely love to see your analysis of the full ballet. And maybe sometime you could run us through his great masterpiece Symphonic Variations - I remember watching it in the cinema, and as soon as the curtain rose on that iconic backdrop, I felt my blood pressure drop ten points! BTW, I love your matching dresses!

It's typically pronounced by most professional Shakespeare companies as Tit-tawn-nee-ah, however in the USA it can also be pronounced as Tie-tane-ee-ah, like the largest moon of the planet Uranus. As long as it ends in that ah sound and has 4 syllables, it fits the rhyme scheme as well as the meter, and therefore either pronunciation can be called valid. I say this as a Shakespearean theater director. Lol I am actually currently directing A Midsummer Night's Dream, and as a fellow ballet nerd I also love the ballet version. I just discovered your channel, and I have to say, you two are awesome. Keep the great content coming!!
