It doesn’t look like he is quick enough to be that short and play any major ball, but that doesn’t mean he can’t play for any college anywhere. He def got exposed this game. He’s so little, I think they showed the blueprint on how to defend him: Don’t go for any of the ball fakes and let him try to go by you. Zy'Mir Cook I’m judging his shooting form, highlights and stats I’ve read from different outlets. Everyone has bad nights, even Steph Curry has had bad shooting nights, that doesn’t mean he can’t shoot. Also, the team he was playing against had him locked down on D. If a shooter can’t find space it’s going to effect his shooting percentage. 0 on the white team was giving him no breathing room, he was damn near in Newman’s jersey! He would face a lot more of that at the D-1 level so that’s not looking good for him, but I can definitely see Newman playing D-II. His sister actually has a better shot than he does, but she has to have elite quickness and I don’t know if she does.

Zy'Mir Cook I def don’t think he’s easy to guard. I was saying, the white team may have the blueprint on HOW to guard him. 0 on the white team was obviously quicker than Newman. So you have to have a player with elite level quickness. However, when other defenders were guarding him, they were forcing left and when Newman was able to get by they were poking the ball out from behind. It looks like Newman never adjusted to that. So, either he was unable to make the adjustment or he, and his coaches, didn’t have the IQ to realize what was happening to him. Either way this film is bad news for Newman.

Tbh, Broughton high school isn't really a good team, more like solid. If was a great game plan though; focus on Julian and let someone else beat them. Incredible one on one defense and also the help defense on some of the drives to the basket, which resulted in him losing the basketball off his body. They forced him left, and for some possessions, the help defense was there whenever Newman went left. Not the whole game but just throughout the game.

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, The biggest weakness in Julian Newman’s game is not his lack of height, but his lack of quickness and explosiveness to compensate for his height. He is unable to get by defenders off the dribble, the only way he scores is dribbling between his legs 5 times in the same spot then do a step back 3. He simply can not create any separation for himself because he doesn’t blow by defenders even at 5’7.

This video is a perfect example of why he is destined to fail (I'm not hating, it's just the facts): 1) Instead of working with his offense, he consistently tries to force his defender into a 1-1 situation where he believes he can create some sort of "highlight" that the crowd will go nuts for...real players don't do that. Everyone has a bad game, so you can't go off of one (or a few) games to determine if someone is overrated. From a very young age, Julian Newman, was made out to be some super human basketball player, so I can't imagine how much pressure he is under to try to fulfill this hype about him. The pressure must be difficult, just like other young athletes where the media makes them out to be so big. But, it doesn't mean Newman (or the others) are incredibly skilled..
