I'm not exactly a "BALLER" but every time I'd play hoops in Sacramento CA (where I grew up) "And 1" meant that you were fouled when you were in the process of shooting but we personally would only count it as a foul if we missed the shot. If we made the shot the score would count and it wouldn't be treated as a foul. It was only treated as a foul if we missed the shot since the foul was OBVIOUS to everyone around and it was our way of saying "Yeah I may miss that shot... but only because you fouled me! And if I make it.. just know it was AND 1 on yo ass!" Despite all that though we never counted the actual foul if the ball went in. 💯

Being in the military I've had the opportunity to hoop with people from many different states and it seems like a lot of people do "and1" differently. Where I'm from, it has always been a foul if you say "and1". It just makes sense, like in a real game you get fouled before an and1 can happen. If you say "and1" then be prepared to get the ball back up top, no basket.
