Ballroom Competition Makeup - Black Smokey Eyes

Welcome back to my channel! This was my first time ever attempting a black smokey eye 'dancesport style' and I hope you enjoy :) I tried to explain my process and give tips and tricks to blending out dark eyeshadows to help you guys when you are doing your own makeup for the competition. I know this is a super dramatic makeup look but feel free to taper it in anyway to your own liking!

I would choose different lipstick than red, maybe a darker shade of red, but overall this makeup look is super gorgeous, especially on you.

Veronika Pecháčková Thank you! I tried a pink lipstick but I didn’t like that so I went with classic red! But I agree a darker red would maybe look even more beautiful :)

Have you ever thought about laying down a black base with a gel eyeliner before you go in with the black shadow? I find it really helps with intensity and minimizes the patchy appearance that can happen with super dark shadows.

@@rickiet.beauty No problem. 😊 Fair warning, though-- with gel eyeliner it's going to take some effort to remove. On the upside, this means it's also not going anywhere, no matter how much you sweat during a comp. (I can attest to this.) Another alternative would be to put down the base with an eye pencil like the NYX jumbo eye pencils. Just as effective. It's a beautiful look though, and I love how you used the pinks/reds. I may steal that one for myself since my gown is red and black.

Hi Rickie. I'm just a pro/am-er so what do I know, but here are my two cents on this. If you have that and 5 bucks you might get a cup of coffee🙂. Every face is different (obviously) but there seems that there are a few categories of eye shapes and eye placements in the face that lends itself to different makeup shapes. I'm trying to educate myself on hair and makeup as I want to be doing them myself. They do cost. What I have figured out, this far, is that I have a small face and deep set eyes. If I do a smokey eye, and I have, even my husband lets me know that I look ridiculous. Yeah, I noticed it too. With just a little more powder on my face I would be all set for halloween. Goast face. I think that a very light near the nose and then darker the further out I go might work but I haven't figured out how to. Would you mind put something like that together in a tutorial, please. Can we use this makeup for other dances as well like jazz or hip hop or ballet? Like for a show if for example we need to use dark makeup for our routine

Sorry for such a delayed response 😅 Of course this video is just meant to show how to achieve makeup like this but you are free to use it for any style of dance if that’s what you are trying to portray! I just label my videos ‘ballroom dance makeup’ because that’s the main reason I started my channel, but you can interpret and use the tutorials however you want 😁😇 Thanks for watching! 💕

Rachel Halversen I use the ‘DUO’ brand eyelash glue! You can find it at almost any drugstore 😁
