I have a rule when fishing Balsalm: catch a pike, keep a pike. They are great eating and are a detriment to the musky fishery.

I, as a former resident of balsam lake, know that it is VERY ILLEGAL to release Any pike back in the lake because they are a invasive species and do not belong in the lake, when catching them, you have to keep them BY LAW and do something with them, you are not allowed to release them back into the lake

@@calvinwalker9381 Balsam in Ontario. Their population is exploding in the Lake but are not designated an "invasive" species. Check your regulations the season in Balsam Lake for Pike is May 4th to March 1.

Ask the MNR. Believe it or not there is a season as well as a possession limit on them. Pulling them out would be illegal.

I'm bad at remembering names. I got it from the musky area at Bass Pro though they had lots of them. Just a large spinner.

I haven’t fished Balsom in well over 20 years. I use to pound it for Musky, caught close to a hundred over several years never caught a single pike back in those days.

I grew up fishing Balsam, my family has a number of cottages in Killarney Bay, we fish the other side of Grand Island frequently with good success. It's incredibly sad to see all these pike coming out of our lake, it was only 6 or 7 years ago we saw our first one come out of there, and they have definitely impacted the ecosystem. True shame.

Hey man late comment but if your targeting musky in the Kawarthas I would suggest buckhorn or Cameron both I’ve had luck on keep up the videos!
