Idk why this song became so iconic and popular within the Latin American communities. I lived in the US for most of my life since I was a kid. The Italian band "Baltimora" was formed in Milan in 1984 when musician Maurizio Bassi met an Irish singer named Jimmy McShane. Immediately seduced by his extravagant charisma and his dancing skills, Bassi took him and other musicians to record a first album entitled "Living in the background". Baltimora will extract a first extract in the purest Italo-disco style which was a hit at the time, the title has the particularity of having as a refrain what is akin to a cry from Tarzan, it will be baptized "Tarzan Boy". Upon its release in April 1985, the song met with phenomenal success in Europe and the United States and rose to the top of the world charts throughout the summer of 1985. “Tarzan Boy” will even experience several lives since it will be regularly used in various films and advertising spots (Ninja Turtles, Coca Cola, etc.). Openly gay, Jimmy McShane addresses his homosexuality and the life that results from it through “Tarzan Boy”. Like many other of his contemporaries, he was sadly passed away on March 29, 1995 by AIDS which was wreaking havoc at the time. He was barely 37 years old and will forever remain the man of one hit!
