Oh my goodness, that was a real treat to see! I could almost smell the popcorn and taste the cotton candy I had to beg my Mom to buy, since she seldom let us have sugar. I celebrated all of my teenage years at the City Fair until they stopped having it. What a sad day that was. Smh I miss those days, the 70's were everything! Lol That was really nice to see. Thanks for posting..

Curly Bush...I agree! Seemed so innocent back then. So many families - white and black. All getting along in the name of fun and in the name of that once great city.

Memories, seems like people had more respect for one another when we came together to have a good time.

Back when Baltimore city had almost 1 million people. As of today December 17 2019 the city has a little over 600,000 people. I was 3 yrs old back in 1973 but I do remember the City Fair throughout the 1970s..

Baltimore's population peaked at 900,600 in 1950. By 1973, it was well under that as the flight to the suburbs was well underway, a process that accelerated following the riots of 1968.

The good old days skiing through the chromium laced Patapsco. You could ski in with green swim trunks and come out with yellow trunks.

Last time I went was 1977 or 78 I think. We sat on the roof of the Morris Mechanic Theatre and smoked a bowl of flakes (pcp soaked greens) first. I don’t remember the fair just the lights, some neon lights and more lights. Federal Hill has a great view of dwtn.

that's pretty much how i remember it. my folks met working in the Maryland National building (mini empire state building, so to speak). water skiing in the harbor in 1973 must have been in a no fall zone, for sure.

The City Fair brought people downtown (if only for a little while) after the riots of 1968. William Donald Schaeffer hired smart, creative people for his administration and they delivered. You might remember the Tall Ships that docked at the harbor in 1976, and then the pavilions of Harbor Place which opened in 1980. Harbor Place was the right development for the time. However, that time now seems long passed. Today, we await what will come next. Hopefully, there won't be a revival of the flash mobs of juveniles that terrorized and assaulted people.

This was a perfect day for a family. Nowadays you don't see this you half to dodge bullets or be afraid of a deadly virus in crowds or someone tryna kidnap you or your child or jack your car when u go home what a sad society we have become

Lee B. ~ It is not a total rat hole. I live there and I know how it is. I reside in a nice neighborhood. The city gets a negative rap based on certain sections, and of course the bad news is all that's heard about in the media.

I liked it more when it really was a rathole with genuine winos walking along the riverfront, Just like out of a Steinbeck novel.
