This is an OUTSTANDING chronicle of the Colts in late-season 1965. TONS of great footage and in-depth game info here that I'd never seen before.

After John tore up his knee his mobility was never the same. In the next few years he tore his achilles playing raquetball . And then the chronic tendonitis of his throwing elbow. He had moments when he was great ala 1958-65 but never a full season and post season of it. He still managed to do well and played hurt and in pain much of the time he did get his Superbowl ring in 71 in spite of broken ribs in that game. As far as Chandlers kick it was no good. The refs have been screwing up games forever and thats not going to change. I really felt bad for Tom Matte because what he did was truly amazing and had they won the title it would have been sensational. RIP to all my guys. The Baltimore Colts are still my team despite what the Irsays drunken daddy and coked up son continue to do.

Don't forget the magnificent season that John Unitas had in 1967. In the Playoff Bowl against the Cowboys, Tom Matte was incredible. He played like an All-Time great QB...

Fantastic ABC Network Special. Classic NFL fans are very lucky this was preserved.

What a gem. A cinema-verite treat. Johnny U (my fave QB all-time), and Tom Matte (a makeshift QB) who almost pulled off the seemingly impossible. Heroic effort!! Outstanding old school footage and hard-nosed, old-school attitudes!!! Love it.

30:57 Shula doesn't want rules to protect the quarterbacks after both of his quarterbacks were injured. Great men, great coaches. Brings back memories. Thanks.

Chandler said he missed the kick! I was a huge Colt fan in the 50s and 60s growing up in Maryland. They provided endless hours of real enjoyment. BTW a week before the Super Bowl 111 I got drafted. The game was to bad but just didn't have the sting of 64. I spent a year in the Central Highlands w the 173rd AIRBORNE INFANTRY.I got home a few days after Super Bowl V and had not seen or cared about something a superficial as sports. I watch some now but it never can replace the Golden Era of the Baltimore Colts. Joe Ryan

Great pick for an enhancement, Dave! I was glad to come across this one elsewhere, as the various NFL Films pieces on the Packers-Colts game where Paul Hornung scores 5 touchdowns left me wanting more. It was from this film that I learned he was knocked unconscious scoring one of the TDs. And, in case we needed any reminding that this was a different era, they let him go back in as soon as he was able.

Lombardi and the Packers were LUCKY as shit!! They should have lost about 5 times to the Colts in the 60s

This season predates me by a few months, but I do remember Chris Schenkel quite well from his years calling college football games, when I was a kid in the '70's! OOOMGGG, is there a worse call in the history of the NFL than the refs call on the Don Chandler miss?!! AWFUL....And there were several other DUBIOUS calls late in the playoff game, favoring the Packers.

I don't plan to upload any more NFL Films programs at this time. All the ones I recently did were ones that needed some sort of upgrade or enhancement because they were web downloads.

That was the name of the NFL Films show in the late 60s/early 70s where they would show their programming. I have a few NFL Films programs that still have the Pat Summerall 'NFL Action' lead-in.

@@davevolskysbackdoor5673As far as I am aware that’s the only time NFL Films has had its own series for network television. It appears on the schedule for the 1970-71 television season in the summer.

Colts received three terrible calls-- the facemask, the kick, and the Taylor fumble. Still-- replay stinks.

Lombardi knew it. When questioned about this game the rest of his life he always said.....All I know is the paper said we won the next morning! WIth his big gap tooth grin.

I loved the Packers back then…that said, they were ultra fortunate to win this game, and the 1965 NFL title….Colts did have 3 terrible calls go against them and, all things equal, deserved to win this playoff game….

Baltimore was robbed in the Western Conference Playoff. Do they defeat the Browns if they had defeated the Packers? In my opinion no.
