Salvage efforts are noticeably favorable as much of the bridge debris on the east side of Dali in the channel has been removed. Work continues to reach the goal of partially opening the channel by the end of April

People don't stop to think about how ductile steel is. Those structures look rigid but they are everything except rigid but they are still as hard and as heavy as steel. A miscalculation can mean a mass of twisting steel can cause more damage to the ship than has already happened or to the cranes lifting it. Thanks for reporting this. It's better than what the almost pointless regular or cable media have provided.

Poignant indeed for a 70 year old woman. I sailed those waters for the entire 47 years of it’s life. Living north of Baltimore in Towson, it was a pleasant drive around the beltway to cross the Patapsco River on the Key Bridge. The view West was spectacular as the entire Harbor and Downtown were a panoramic sight to behold. The view East was of the Chesapeake Bay and the bucolic living on the Eastern Shore. Some days we’d cross it TWICE: Over and Back after lunch up on Rock Creek. I will miss that Bridge that I traversed both OVER and UNDER during the entire 47 years of its existence. At 82, I hope to live long enough to ride over whatever bridge replaces this graceful Baltimore icon. Sam Collins Towson, MD

Even over here in England we are both amazed and applauding the combined efforts of everyone to regain the shipping and movement channels, incredible and brilliantly demonstrating different operational set-ups and teams working together as one. Well done all. Curious when the grounded, presently, Dali will be in a position or state to move? Removal of the carnage lying across her won't be straightforward I know. From all of the damage that I have seen, the poor excuse of a dolphin installed near the bridge supports were very ineffective. Also, note that the power lines are very unprotected and could also be overrun by a ship the size of the Dali. What are your thought on that truck with multiple antennas ? This truck is at the very end of the south bridge, if he backed up 50 feet he'd be in the drink. Salt, sugar and coal transportation are major commodities moved in and out of Baltimore. The temporary channel being cleared will be approximately 35’ deep which will allow shallow draft bulk ships to pass safely. Bulkers usually require the 50’ main channel depth to clear as they sail with full loads. It will also permit some of the stranded ships from the port to exit and resume commercial operations. Recovery of the last two victims of the bridge collapse is always a high priority and will be completed with respect and care when located. 🇺🇸⚓️

I work at one of the coal piers and we have a ship stuck in port. Our ship is fully loaded and needs a draft of 42' (minimum) to sail. We have started doing barges again but those are only at half capacity. We're hoping that larger shipping traffic will resume sooner than later

They could also be refueling with "clean fuel" for auxiliaries as they are in port. Would have plenty of not so clean fuel for when at sea. Remember original voyage was expected to take 29 days, so by now food could also need replenishing. Agree vessel is likely to need heavy repairs, rebuilding or scrapping, depending on what is economically viable.

Seems to me I recall that ships carry 2 fuel sources. One is a dirtier fuel used on the "open ocean" and a better quality one to use "inland" and ports to achieve certain air quality standards. If so it seems to me the portside fuel capacity would be less than the open water fuel source. Therefore the month that the Dali has been stuck inland it could have exhausted it's clean fuel supply.

I saw a comment on the live stream that it needs to be running so all the equipment is on, so after a month running idle, maybe they are actually re-fueling it. If it was refloat it, they would not be doing it this early in the operation. It still has too much debre on it.
@rightsideofthegrass8114
@rightsideofthegrass8114 Ай бұрын
@@JoeHamby While some power sources aboard DALI are likely to be running and using fuel, the fuel demands would far less than full power for the ship to sail across the ocean. It has been grounded for only 30 days. Yes, there is still debris on the bow of DALI, but 70, 80, 90? containers have been removed. Removal of these containers will help facilitate removal of bridge debris, but also to take weight off the part of the ship that is grounded. We have not been given much info about the nature of the grounding (e.g. depth into the bottom muck). The good news is the grounding apparently did not compromise the hull. I have seen no schedule for attempting to refloat DALI.

Who greenlighted the Dali as seaworthy enough to leave port for a 27 day voyage to SriLanka halfway around the globe when it's electrical problems were not resolved while docked. 2.) Two tugboat escorts were summoned while the Dali was in channel but pulled away from her sides before she reached open sea? Coincidentally moments after the tugs left her sides the Dali lost main power, backup power and finally emergency power was lost too. Day 31. No answers to why/how/who is responsible. Why?
