So the story is that the girl in the dark room represents our unconscious mind and subjective reality which is selfish in nature and does not want to let go of itself because our unconscious is the recipe for life which is the objective self: represented as the fish and water. To explain the scene with the old lady, think of her as our consciousness and our persona; this makes sense because the girl symbolizes her unconscious mind that developed at a young age and the old lady is her conscious mind that occupies the current body. The water in which the lady is sprinkled with by the young girl shows how we flourish ourselves and obsess ourselves with our self which is shown in our persona and the attachment we have to the fish or life. What inevitably makes the girl drown and lose the fish is her attachment to the self because she was so involved within that she gorged herself with it, drowning her. The final scene makes the message come full circle because the fish is returned to the water and the girl turns into her younger self in a full white room which represents the afterlife. Also in the room, is a man that saves the fish and her and he represents "God" or the universe, because what he does is return the girl and fish back to their natural forms which is apart of the unconscious realm. The man also observes her and the water because he represents awareness and is responsible for the nature of her and the universe. This is because awareness is the universe experiencing itself through itself. The unconscious realm is shown with the girl painting the picture of the ocean because she is obsessed with the self, which in its true form it is the ocean. This represents the manifested world which is all the matter and space and the infinite ocean behind it which contains all the unknown possibilities for the universe.
