Had to pull one out of my brother on the pier years ago. Had him bite on an old dirty fish rag LOL! We were into the Spanish and he didn’t want to leave. Tip. Push it through before cutting the hook while you still have leverage. Then cut the barb end off. Slips right out.

Got a hook in the finger, too. Always carry wire cutters. My hook didn't go all the way through, felt it hit the bone. Much whiskey later managed to push the point through and remove it. Usually pinch down the barbs now, better for the fish better for the finger.

Better than I do in those situations it would be Bleep bleep bleep bleepin bleep bleep for me! lol I think anyone who been fishing a lot has done it I did it just last year Trout fishing and somehow got all three treble hooks from a treble hook on the back of my hand after pulling it lose from a snag and it snapped back right into my hand. It hurt. For some reason maybe because they are coated with something but the next day was the worst part. You did better than most dudes would do in that one! Good job!

Push the barb forward through the meat, cut it on the barb side once it comes through the other side, and pull the hook back out cleanly.

Couple suggestions, although you handled that well, and like a man. Take a piece of ice and hold it on the affected area for as long as you can or until it's painless. Next time don't use the needle nose, use the side cutters to grab the point. Don't squeeze hard enough to cut it but let it bite the tip of the hook. It will grab much better than the pliers. And lastly, sea water has a fantastic antiseptic property. I know this from talking online to a biologist that was rushing a bunch os seals and catching the ones with fishing lines, nets, rope, and a host of other foreign objects choking and wrapped around them in dangerous ways. I asked why the didn't give them some kind of shot or wash the affected areas, and that's when they told me about the healing properties of sea water. You can search saving seals trapped in fishing line or like that.
