Just put on a 16T in large part due to your reasoning. Very pleased. You are correct, the RS should have 16T stock.

Went to 17 absolutely bliss.no ridiculous engine breaking when throttling off, pulled fine in 6th ,no huge rev jump from 6th to 5th....perfect

Just got a 16T sproket with my new chain and tires. Can't wait to try it out.

Thank you for this vid, every question I was going to ask was answered, the stock gearing really leaves 6th gear too buzzy and not like a highway gear. Since I got the cafe its been " i wish it had one more gear for the highway, i don't want it for the speed i want it like an overdrive, ive said it since day one with my zrx1100 after riding my buddies zx1100 and now this bike is the same so definitely doing the sprocket upgrade. Thank you for the detailed vid

I went with 15/44. I did put a z900 high comp motor in it though. Input shaft changed from RS 12 tooth to Z9 13 tooth. Got 130bhp out of it and wiih traction off, it does 10.4 1/4's. I am also running a 60 series rear tyre. When sprockets wear out I am going to go with 15/43, stock RS is 15/42. Top speed atm gps 248kmh and I want to crack 250.

They preform better with the 16. 15 is a bit low geared.

what's a 'nanny kicking in?' sometimes these jargons are hard to understand. Correct me if i'm wrong, i think its assuming the KRTC traction control? Other than that, great detail on the 16 tooth!

Correct. A nanny is any electronic aid.

I would love seeing a video showing the speedo and tach, on the stock 15 tooth and then with the 16 tooth sproket.

With the full exhaust and the tune I would highly recommend the 16 tooth front sprocket. I truly believe it should have come with that gearing from the factory. First gear is a realistic first gear, 5th gear carries you to whatever speed you feel like Falls within the realm of sanity, and six gear is an extremely comfortable gear to cruise in whether you're going 75 or 105.

16T sprocket has been discussed to death on the Z900RS forum. Hard to imagine where you got the idea there isn't much about it on the Internet...

KZbin and video content is lacking. I believe I mentioned that in the video, and yes, there is forum content out there to be found. Some folks prefer a video, or something other than a forum resource.

They all seem too low and I've long thought oem gearing is intended to give the machine a spec sheet edge over the competition at the expense of ideal gearing for owners. In speed zones, with stock gearing is just that one tooth out and in typical traffic at 30mph, or 40mph, you hunt up and down (UK roads). At fast road speeds, again 'just' a tooth out. For me the 16T made my RS the perfect bike and the engine was even happier, yet crack the throttle and that gorgeous engine responds with ample to spare. Even in the twisties, I don't think the average rider would miss the 15T unless caning so hard they should be on a race track - which is a danger to all other road users.

Every single writing scenario that I have found myself in has been benefited by having the 16th front sprocket. I'm still confused as to how the 15 would be better, weather in stock form or modified. To me the 15 too gearing just simply seemed unnatural for this type of motorcycle

The only time I can ever really tell that I've got a nanny stepping in is on a rare occasion in lower gears with wheelie control. Typically though there is no nanny intervention with this bike. It's kind of one of the perks at being at that middleweight power level
