Awesome video. I’ve worked with Bambi buckets as a firefighter for several years. It’s cool to learn more about their design and manufacturing.

Me too! Id flown with them for years and still learned more while I was there!!

Not a pilot, just an helicopter enthusiast. Always loved to watch those water carrying devices working, being able to know them at the manufacturing/engineering perspective, was a blessing, thanks to your channel. Thanks 4 the video, i would love to get the key chain for my car ;)

Greetings Rick, I looked up SEI to check out the Bambi Buckets and discovered all of the other products like fuel cells that they manufacture. Good video.
@PilotTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Hey Vincent! Yes they make alot of items and many of them are associated with fire suppression. One of their other products is the Fuel Easy which is used to transfer liquids. You can see how I used 3 to move 14,000 litres of diesel in a day here: A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HELICOPTER PILOT - Remote Tower Fuel Haul kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4HGiqiifJyri9k

Fascinating, thanks for the tour. Was hoping for seeing more how it's manufactured, but guess company would like to keep prying eyes out.

Trust me I tried!!! I got to tour the facility but filming was not allowed inside because of their manufacturing process. It would have been cool to have the full tour in the video but their privacy needed to be respected!

Great content. I've always wanted to know why they're called "Bambi" buckets. What's the story behind that name?

Sorry Robin, they went a long time ago. You might be able to contact SEI Industries directly and see if you can buy them from them.

Quick question. If doing an uplift and you catch a fish (let’s say a 30lb carp) is there any way of getting rid of it? Is it with you for the rest of the days flying? Great video - thanks
@PilotTeacher2 жыл бұрын
With the old udder style the buckets the fish would be released out the bottom with the water as the opening is large. With the BambiMax valve the pilot could easily dunk the bucket and let the fish swim out. I have heard of a pilot looking down and seeing a Beaver swimming around in his bucket! He went back to the dip site and dunked the bucket to release it.

Don Arney, the creator of the bambi bucket, QUOTE " The name came about because of CBC’s Bob Fortune. He interviewed me on a show about inventors and we became friends. One night over dinner he asked me what I was going to call it. I didn’t want to talk business so I said “the Bambi Bucket” - I was just being goofy. But he said it was a great name and he was relentless in pushing me to keep it".

Interesting , how long to fill the Bambi in shallow water with DC pumps? And ya, did the rep ever get back to you? about the origin the name Bambi ? Where did that come from ?
@PilotTeacher Жыл бұрын
Hi Tim the size of the bucket and the number of pumps it has dictates its fill time but if I remember its around 40sec i think. As for the name there might be more info on their website: www.sei-ind.com

What capacity do you use on the AS350, what would your overall weight be. I would assume you would have to be lower than MTOW for flying over hot rising air such as that of a fire.
@PilotTeacher2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the Astar model being flown most buckets will be between 180 to 240 gallon buckets and will either be cinched if its an old bucket or use the BambiMax valve on a new bucket. You would have to see what the altitude and temperature is for the days flying and adjust the bucket to ensure you stay under the helicopters MGW. The model of Astar will have its set MGW and will need to be adhered to.
