Bambie Thug cries as they accuse Eurovision bosses of ‘not supporting them’ in Israel row

Bambie Thug has accused Eurovision organisers of “not supporting them” over a row with Israel.
The “ouji pop” star, who secured a sixth place finish in Ireland’s first grand final of the music event since 2018, accused the Israeli broadcaster, Kan, of a rule break and said they have been waiting to hear back from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) about what action would be taken.
Bambie, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, told journalists in the press centre on Saturday (11 May): “Kan the broadcaster incited violence against me twice, three times. We brought it up to the EBU. They said they follow up.
“They waited to the last minute, we still haven’t gotten statement back to us, allowed us to be scapegoats, allowed us to be the spokesperson for standing up for ourselves.
“And yeah, the broadcaster has disobeyed the rules and I hope next year they won’t be able to compete because of that.”
The Independent has contacted both Kan and the EBU for comment following Bambie’s claims.

Interesting that the EBU can take a quick stance on the Netherlands and disqualifying them immediatly after Joost Klein (according to Avotros, the dutch broadcaster of eurovision) made a (presumably) threatening movement against a camera woman after he warned her not wanting to be filmed (which was ignored), but the EBU is slow once individual artists complain about the israeli broadcast KAN for (potential) intimidation. (Also very important to point out that Avotros talked to the EBU about potential solutions such as a public apology. However, their disqualification was final. Avotros also wanted to talk with the camera woman but she declined. Either the incident is really extreme or there was an unwillingness from the EBU to solve the problem).

However, in the Dutch case the EBU immediatly took action during the investigation (so it didn't matter if Joost Klein was innocent or guilty because he was already barred from the event). In the case of KAN there was neither an investigation or any consequences which results in a double standard from the EBU.

Did she really want to have a positive impact in the contest and beyond or was her intention to simply exclude one of the contestants because of her own political views? I think she arrived to the contest frustrated that people did not agree with her views, and then she left even more frustrated when Israel got second place in the televote and fifth place overall (in both scenarios above Ireland). She hasn't gained Irish support the way Eden has from Israel. I just hope one day she looks back at all this and moves on gracefully.
