Brilliant piece of work. I only recently "discovered" or knew anything about Varanasi when about two weeks ago a video was "recommended" to me by a KZbin algorithm. I am now helplessly enthralled. Without realizing it, I have been dreaming about this place in a serial way for twenty years. Awoken by such a dream for the umpteenth time I prayed to understand why I am having these dreams. The next day that first recommended video appeared.

I would want to have easy access to the type of narrow, busy streets shown by various uploaders and also to the ghats. I've looked into hotels and I think I should stay at the Brijrama Palace until I get the kind of local knowledge I'd get, I figure, by being there. Time will tell. Thanks for your reply.

Varanasi is not for those who are on a journey fot self realization.. The priest beggars who want money for a simple tilak or looting for poojas and child begging will make your mind upset, add to that the huge waste accumalation, littering done by locals.. Will make you escape from the city.. Varansi may have been an intellectual, spritual city in past historic times.. But now it is a spritual tourist city with lot of trash and waste around and child begging..

I agree 100% Deep Blue. I wrote this on Tripadvisor since I was very disappointed with my visit to Varanasi: Certainly in ancient times Varanasi was a holy beautiful place to be contemplated. Nowadays it is terribly dirty, smelly, polluted, noisy and dusty. Personally I could not feel the powerful energy of this city neither experience the blessings of the Ganges river. What I am trying to say is that I cannot understand how people who believe to practice Hinduism and supposedly should follow the principles of Yamas and Niyamas, notably Saucha (Shaucha, or living purely, involves maintaining a cleanliness in body, mind, and environment so that we can experience ourselves at a higher resolution of consciousness and spirituality) have or are destroying this holy city and killing the Ganges by polluting it's sacred waters!!! The poor river is the toilet, washing-up area, waste-bin, and sewage drain, etc for all the humans who are living or visiting Varanasi. The health of Mother Ganga is declining and sadly one day it will be too late when people realise what they have inflicted on this majestic river!!! Namaste!!!

@wtnomad on a journey to self realization varanasi place no importance, as for self realization external factors should not hold any value... But at the same time if due to unsanitary food or infection physical body gets disesase or if other people are physically torturing to buy their products or scamming a seeker, it adversely harms the seekers inner peace, and he will be drawn back to external world more and more insted of finding self.. A spritual place should at bare minimum be able to provide peace and harmony, other wise all place in the world is same, varanasi hold no importance

I wonder that it was selected for a film festival. I feel it's a nice narration, but so totally uncoordinated with the visuals. Or maybe it's a deliberate attempt to present such bad visuals. e.g. It starts with the river assi --- showing the dirtiest part of the drain that is assi now. e.g. 2 : If the stones would talk, they would tell the mysteries of the universe -- and the visual is the back of a man in a torn under-wear. Wonder, if it is a deliberate attempt to present the ugly side. Didn't they find a single bather on the ghat, except one in a torn underwear. And have you taken a permission from these people you so innocuously show/ disparage in here? Poor aesthetics of malicious intent.

The difference between na and Njah Varujnah versus Varuna.. Devanagari I'm sure has the distinction between na ans Njah Hindi is basically imperfect phonetic translation of Samskrutha. Just like Samskrutha becomes Sanskrit in Hindi. It's Vaaranjahsi not Varanasi! It's not Gyaan it's Gnana!

After seeing banaras ifeel some places should be kept as it is , it shows its beauty , modernising banaras with skyscrapers doesn't show the importance of the place.. but maintain cleanliness....Love frm Bengal
