Hi! 👋 Interviewer here. I saw this had been reuploaded a while ago and I was initially kind of embarrassed that it's gotten so much attention, but I'm glad you all are still enjoying it! I'm totally fine with people keeping it archived because I know Joe is sort of an elusive guy, and it was definitely a cool experience to chat with him (even if I feel like I was super awkward through a lot of it 😅). I really admire the Tally Hall fanbase for your archival skills and your interest in all the projects the band members have worked on! Since I didn't explain it anywhere else, I wanted to clarify: The reason Joe's camera looks Like That is because he was backlit, he had an injury at the time and he wasn't able to move to a better location. The local access TV station was broadcasting in standard def and there'd be way too much noise onscreen if it went on air as-is, so my coworkers helped me improvise and try to make it look like a more ~stylistic approach~. It was the best we could do with what we had! Anyway, it's nice to know my little local access show is still appreciated even if I don't produce it anymore 🤗

Joe, you say you wonder if people who aren’t you would want to listen to the music you’re creating. As a fellow musician, I’m watching a (probably intentionally) horribly quality video of you talking about this music on a show I’ve never watched before because I LOVE your music so much. You have such a unique and captivating perspective on music, with multiple ideas in a single song. I don’t want to emulate your sound, but it’s artists like you that make me think about what molds I could possibly break as a creator. Please make more music and know that what you have made inspires many like myself. Also, for what it’s worth, miracle musical has 1 album and close to a million monthly listeners. That’s pretty freaking nuts.

Ah man this is genuinely a great interview. Very fascinating to hear Joe's answers, and the questions were super well thought out, congrats to the interviewer. I also kind of wish they'd both been able to talk to each other more organically. Like on one hand I feel like when Joe goes off on a somewhat confusing tangent, it begs for conversation, for someone else's thoughts on it. But on the other hand it's so so difficult to spontaneously have something to say about something you've never thought about before.

Here’s my thoughts on Miracle Musical and Tally Hall getting back together. Tally Hall is probably most likely not going to get back together for a few reasons. First of all, two of the members have professional careers and lives. Zubin is a doctor and Rob is working at Disney. Second of all, they all live relatively far away [as far as I know] with Joe living in Florida [last I heard] and Andrew living in New York [as far as I know]. Third, Joe is struggling a lot with his mental health and has been taking a hiatus from anything to [hopefully] get some help. Ross has been working on something with Bora. So unless Joe gets himself together, Rob leaves Disney, and Zubin finds time in his busy schedule, the band is most likely done for. As for Miracle Musical, kinda the same thing I said before. Joe is mentally ill, and the rest of them are busy. Although I would love to see both projects start again, I just doubt it will happen. Edit: I thought up something. This may be unlikely, but whatever. There is a possibility that Joe is taking a hiatus to also work on something. Whether it be a solo album or a Miracle Musical project. But then again, there’s no proof surrounding this. So take what I said with a grain of salt. Edit #2: okay I have some updated news. There is an artist by the name of "Five Foot Failure". They released an album under the name of "Mr. Eclipse Isn't Perfect." The title song has Joe Hawley featured on it. So it is confirmed: Joe Hawley is alive. Edit #3: false alarm. The song just featured a sample of Joe Hawley on it. Edit #4: Ross is a scientist, so he also has a professional career along with Rob and Zubin.

It's possible. But it might also be possible he has some sort of psychotic disorder, Brian Wilson sort of scenario. He said that a madman normally wouldn't accept the possibility that his delusions are delusions, but then he talks about three realities. I'm no psychologist but I've seen similar behavior in my friend who underwent.

there's a massive stigma that cryptic/unusual music always involves substance abuse. some people genuinely just have "atypical" world & philosophical views, plus not everyone needs to pop pills to compensate for lack of talent &/or skill. on top of that, the existence of multiple objective realities could mean completely unaffected unbiased viewpoints (unachievable by mankind of course as we have VERY subjective mindsets regardless of how much we may try to be "neutral") it makes more sense if you view "realities" as an abstract & ever-changing (though, theoretically real) idea of *being & existing.* it doesn't need to be about tangible multiverses or any highly unknown theory we associate with the word "reality" (or plural realities)
