"Blooming" was used in a film. It was an anime (which they do a lot of music for). It was used in a Western action thriller based in Japan. The title of the film was "Kate". "Blooming" and "Choose Me" were the two Band-Maid songs used in the film. There was also a cameo appearance by the band in that film.

BANDMAID is the greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century IMHO. It's a crazy statement. Was Mozart the world's greatest composer of his era? He'll yeah! The farther we get away from that time the more clearly we see the immensity of his talent. Few would argue with the above assessment. Everytime I write "IMHO" after BandMaid is the greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century I feel like a liar. IMHO my ass! IMHO water is wet. BandMaid rules right now. 66 years old here. Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed! Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

Welcome to Band-Maid! I highly recommend watching their official live videos. They are an incredible live band. A lot of their influence is from 80s and 90s rock. While they have been commissioned to do some anime music, their sound is not "anime music." Their sound is complicated. Hard rock is probably the most basic description, though a lot of their early music is punk rock. They have more than 140 songs now over 11 years, so lots to listen to. You will find that there is some prog rock, a little metal, a little pop, a little funk, a little jazz, and even a little rap in their music, and sometimes even more than one in a single song. They don't have a single bad song, which is unusual for a band. Most bands I've heard, I tend to like around 25-50% of their music. But with Band-Maid, I've liked every song I've heard. The Anime industry has often hired Band-Maid for theme music: "Shambles", "Different", "Glory", "Corallium", and "Protect You" are just a few examples of their Anime work. They'll work with anime production to create theme songs that fit with the anime's plot and vibe. They outperform their studio tracks regularly. “Play,” official live is a good cross section of their style. It was originally intended to be an instrumental, but the lead vocalist wanted lyrics and they wanted to make sure the audience was included as well. But honestly, you could throw a dart and pick anything from their official channel or the Instrumental Maid Channel. They are that good

I never really watched anime so I could be wrong. But, it seems to me like anyone that's watched anime automatically thinks that Japanese rock sounds like it. I personally think it sounds like rock and I wouldn't classify it as all anime. Anyway thanks for the reaction and I have subbed assuming you'll do more Band Maid.

So my thirst thought in a Japanese Rock band that I would say doesn't sound like anime is Crystal Lake. I think what gets me thinking about anime is that moreso iconic upbeat tempo. Not to say that all upbeat rock is anime based but it's got a specific flavor and sound.

Anime music is just Japanese music. Different anime have different music. It's not all the same. Listen to The Rumbling by SiM or Zetsubo Billy by Maximum the Hormone. Those are literally anime songs. Personally I really like My War it's the Season 4 part 1 OP for Attack on Titan. It's kinda a bizarre song. The Rumbling is season 4 part 2 OP. The Attack on Titan music is really really good.

Yes, they are Japanese. You would probably enjoy the instrumental "From Now On" by Band-Maid (music video). Fast, intense -- lots of hard guitar playing, and a brief drum feature and a bass feature. "From Now On" replaced "Blooming" as my number 1 Band-Maid song when it came out (the guitar does the singing!). But there are over a hundred Band Maid songs on CD to choose from, though fewer if you stick to live and music videos on YT. Do watch some live videos. You'll probably enjoy "Play" and "Domination" (both live videos) -- and "Puzzle" live. They also do acoustic songs, and even a couple of songs blending traditional Japanese and hard rock sounds. Oh, and do try the intense break-up song "Hate?" (live video) -- it has a great duel between the bassist and lead guitar.
