Baby-Metal is a singing / dance group with a metal band off to side, they were invented by a big producing house and were slated to start playing big venues right out of the gate. Band-Maid is a true band that formed organically, had to struggle playing small venues for years, through hard work and talent they made it big and 10+ years on has produced some of the best music I've heard in a long time.

Definitely Band Maid. BabyMetal is basically an Idol group with session/studio musicians backing them. Band Maid writes and plays their own songs and instruments. They are more diversified than any other band I've heard, and I've heard a lot. The most common comments I hear on reactions, is I didn't expect that, or I was surprised.

Some people see their costumes and mistakenly think they are a gimmick band ... and as you can see they are not. 5 serious well trained and practiced musicians laying down the best hard rock currently being produced. They play this stuff at American concert halls and Japanese stadiums ;) .

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 12th year with the original line up. And they are the best live band I have ever witnessed! They sell out tours worldwide. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po! Band-Maid are a self formed rock band that play their own instruments and manage themselves. Babymetal are an agency formed idol group singing to a backing band.

This band can and do play anything. Proggy awesomeness (Giovanni), power ballads (Daydreaming), Arena rock but in a free form composition style (Forbidden Tale) and anything and everything in between - there's no way to truly appreciate them until you've spent some serious time listening to their catalogue. Their combination of serious musical chops and genius songwriting will then be illuminated for you. And you are toast.

Three sell out tours of the US in 2022 and 2023. To your question- I like the band that plays their instruments. Babymetal are a vocal group with a backing band. Just sayin'. The bass player is MISA- just about the best one in rock right now. (UK)

Nice reaction. As to liking one band or the other, I like both (Band-Maid a little better) as they both play different genres. There is also "Lovebites" which is a power metal band that I also like. There are a lot of bands from Japan that are great and worth a listen. Hope to see some more Band-Maid (and all the other great Japanese rock/metal bands).
