At the beginning you were hearing the last notes of their song Play, which is also available on their KZbin Channel. The Ladies took about 5 seconds to walk back to their pedal boards to reset, then launched into Domination. Their concerts are 3-5 songs, a brief break to reset pedal boards, switch out guitars, get a drink to wet their throats, maybe a few seconds of talking, then they launch into the next set of 3-5 songs. Intersperse 2-3 MC portions which includes Miku's Omajinai (Majic Spell) Time, a 10-15 minute stand up, call and response that makes the Ladies Okyuji's (Servings)even more enjoyable and memorable. Now for some more information about the Ladies and the formation of Band-Maid. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan. Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their KZbin channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. The song that really highlights the drummer (Akane) is their song "Freedom" also from the same concert this OLV is from, and also available on their channel. The Ladies have OVER 130 songs in their discography, not including alternate versions, with alternate versions they have over 160 songs in their discography. They will be releasing a new album later this summer and you can purchase their 2023 Tour Finale concert which was over 3.5 hours and 33 songs, on both DVD and BluRay. I personally have both and I enjoy it very much. As for the next song, literally just pick ANY song available on their channel, even the ones which don't have an official MV or OLV, which are available under the "Releases" tab on their channel. These Ladies are so good, that we don't NEED a video to really enjoy all of their music.

One of about a bazillion things I love about The Maids is the group was totally organically formed. Miku found Kanami, Kanami knew Akane, Akane knew Misa and then Saiki auditioned (but I THINK Miku had already kind of singled Saiki out). There's a GREAT series of documentary videos that was put together by Ohrenje (YT channel) that features each member. Start with Saiki. Next song? Kobato Miku is so intrinsic to the BM story that her part of the documentary was split into 3 parts. The only bio with more than 1 Parr. She is boss, accountant, paymaster, sole contract negotiator chief lyricists, sings BVs and lead on several songs. The only maid who never leaves stage for breaks. Instead she talks and sometimes walks among crowd making jokes and doing her anime act. She's so endearing and owns the rights to everything. Even when label was going to cancel contract, they were keeping Miku. She refused to change anything. Later she would get revenge. She had a better offer of management from Pony label. A much larger company. Nobody saw this coming except Miku who apparently didn't like old label trying to give her ultimatum.

Misa (bass) would approve of your love for The Smashing Pumpkins, one of her favourite bands alongside The Pixies. Misa's music of choice is grunge and before Band Maid she played in a band for several years that were likened to The Smashing Pumpkins by one reviewer.

This was a dominating performance! Having fun and performing at a top level in skill and energy! You should check out "Play", "Freedom" and "Choose Me from this same concert, or serving as the band calls them! Band-Maid's breakthrough "Hit" would be "Thrill", as that song gathered two million views in two weeks and saved the band from being cancelled. They just kept progressing with their sound since then, getting better and better! They have all the original members and are great friends on and of stage. The skills these ladies exhibit are off the charts! They write their own music or almost all of it since the song "Alone" was allowed onto a album. A great band, Po!

Best band on the planet! Great reaction….no label can put a band this good together. In fact, they were about to be dropped if their “Thrill” video didn’t go nuclear. These ladies are the greatest band in rock history. And I go back to the Van Halen, Rush and Led Zepplin days. The band formed organically in 2013 as the brainchild of the rhythm guitarist Miku, who had worked in a maid cafe. Miku recruited Kanami, the lead guitarist, after seeing her videos on KZbin. Kanami recruited Akane, the drummer, who she had worked with before. Akane recruited MISA, the bassist, who she had attended the Tokyo School of Music with. after two months, Miku realized her voice wasn’t powerful enough for the music they wanted to play and they got their management to find them another singer…. and Saiki came on board. By august 2013, they were in the current configuration and going strong ever since.

The accidental magic 🪄 of these specific five ending up together and all the stars ✨ lining up for them to break out into the world 🌎 is part of why they are so loved by the fans. We know how lucky we are. ❤ But what continues to stun me is how each one of our Maids is a genuinely good person. They love each other. And they are supremely humble. The smiles are real. You bet their shows are “events!” They make sure you feel like they came there just for you. When I saw them last year, Kanami, the lead guitarist spoke (as best she could in English) to the audience. “Hello. I am Kanami, please call me Mincho. Miku "Rhythm Guitar/Backing vocals" once worked in a traditional Japanese Maid Cafe. She found Kanami (Lead Guitar) online viewing some of her posted musical projects. Contacted her got her onboard, and Kanami knew of Akane (Drummer) as they worked together on some of Kanami's online projects. Once she was onboard Akane knew MISA (Base Guitar) all the way back from Music school. After getting together it became evident that Miku's voice was not strong enough to lead on this style of rock music, so they auditioned and with help from their label found Saiki (Lead vocals). Miku stepped back to take the role of backing vocals.

As im sure half the comments bellow say - they formed themselves - The idea for the band was Miku's the little rythmn guitarist / 2nd vocals / lyricist / pigeon :) She reruited one of them then they recruited one more, who recruited one more :) Only Saiki the main singer was found by management on request, after theyd been together like less than a month and performed 1 or 2 small gigs when Miku decided they needed a different singer than her, and she went on to learn guitar on the job to add more to the band lol. They have all been together since- and except in their early days at a different label, they they write all their own music for the last 6 or 7 years or whatever its been. They are absolutely NOT a studio band- they made themselves, the image is their idea, the music is wrote and performed by them - they are all amazing musicians :) p.s They are older than you probably think! They were in their early to mid 20s when formed but by the time of this performance they are 25-28ish? And by now, even the youngest of them is 30.

You can tell by the audience participation that they were already huge by this point. They formed in 2013 (started by the rhythm guitarist, who used to work at a Maid Cafe). After a couple of years they were still fairly small and getting a bit discouraged. Then their music video for "Thrill" got promoted by an internet radio station in 2015. The video went viral (over 1 million views in a short time) and they were instant big hits internationally. It's been up hill ever since. Their songs have been used in anime and movies. They've opened for bands like Guns 'n Roses. Played at major festivals, and done international tours.

For the drummer, watch "Freedom" official live video. The band was founded by the rhythm guitarist -- it was her dream band. She recruited the lead guitarist, who brought in the drummer, who brought in the bassist. Then they auditioned for the vocalist. The rhythm guitarist had worked in a maid cafe and really liked the frilly costumes, but also the customer engagement. She has one or more sessions each concert where she talks to the crowd as though they were customers at a maid cafe ("masters and princesses") and gets them to chant cute spells -- "Moe Moe" and "Kyun Kyun" -- and also "We love Band-Maid". She says these sessions are "heart to heart". She is a good stand-up comic and these sessions are very popular. She wanted the audience to see the cute maid costumes and expect soft J-Pop ... and then the first hard rock chord would hit them like a shock. The band love to see a new audience react with surprise when they start playing. But also, they have a strong sense of serving their fans with the finest music they can provide -- no ego, just high standards for themselves and a lot of hard work.

BAND-MAID was formed organically. Here’s the Extremely Short version: MIKU was a Japanese “Idol” singer who wanted to form a band. She wanted a hard rock band dressed as maids based upon the popular Japanese maid cafe concept. She found KANAME, the lead guitarist. KANAME knew a drummer (AKANE) who wanted to play in their band. AKANE had played with MISA, who played bass. And BAND-MAID was formed. Almost immediately MIKU decided her voice wasn’t strong enough for the band and they looked for and found SAIKE, a solo artist within their record label. Everything seemed to fit and the band members have remained together for all 11 years of the band’s history. BAND-MAID’s recording label nearly dropped them as the band was having difficulty finding a fan base. Then their first (and nearly LAST!) music video was released: THRILL. THRILL bounced around for a few days until someone posted it on a Japanese music Facebook page. The video got one million views in four days and over two million views in a couple of weeks. They actually thought they’d been hacked! Needless to say, their label decided to carry them a bit longer, and BAND-MAID magic happened. Since THRILL was their first video and the video that saved the band I’d recommend watching it next. Notably, all five members wore their original maid outfits in the first video. AKANE also wore a tiny hat and some have referred to this as the “tiny hat” period for the band. It’s also fun to note that MIKU (with the red rose) was holding her guitar as a prop while singing back up. At that point she didn’t have a clue how to play guitar! Super summarized, Miku (secondary vocalist, rhythm guitar, primary lyricist, spokespigeon) went to her agency (she'd been in an unsuccessful idol group previously) with an idea - Cute women in maid costumes playing hard rock. Agency said 'Go for it.' She recruited a girl she'd seen playing songs online, Kanami (lead guitarist, primary song writer). Kanami knew Akane (drums), and Akane knew MISA (bass). The got together and rehearsed a few times, and somehow it was decided Miku's more light voice wasn't quite right for the music they wanted to play, so the Agency got them in touch with new talent Saiki, who became their lead singer. Saiki and MISA really didn't like the maid outfit idea, though the did go along with it at first. Their outfits quickly evolved to something they were more comfortable with, while Miku, Kanami, and Akane kept the obvious maid apparel.

If you really want to know the story of Band-Maid, you should look up the seven part mini- series on the band. The documentary series created by a KZbinr Ohrenje is incredibly well done and chronicles the group's creating and biography on each of the members. The seven part documentary of the five Maids was done because Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitarist, backup vocalist, and chief lyricist of the group, is the founder of the group has three of the 30 minute segments telling her story and how the band came about. It will be well worth your while to view the series and share it with your subscribers.

Welcome back to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts: •Bass solos are more likely to happen than not •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that. •April Fools Day 2019 As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis (after playing less than 10 yrs) •There is no "I" in BANDMAID. Well ok there is one "I" but my point is the songs are written by BandMaid. Not just Kanami Tono. The highly innovative bass and drum lines are created by Akane and MISA. There are no George songs and John&Paul songs. There are only BandMaid songs. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both. •Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese.Most songs are full of joy as well. •They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other. •Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

MISA! MISA! MISA! Holding the line in Solid Guitar Rock, Band Maid has picked up the Mantel of Rock'n'Roll where the West has left it behind. Miku Kobato, Rhythm Guitar and Backing Vocals, was the Mind behind Babymetal!! She had previously been in an Idol group that broke up and was working in a "Maid Cafe" 'Serving' customers (Masters & Princesses) and pitched the idea to her producer of combining the Cute aesthetics of Maids with a Rock Band. He liked the idea, so Miku found Lead Guitarist Kanami from an Internet search...who suggested a Drummer she had worked with on occasion, Akane, who knew MISA, a Bassest she had been in a few bands with prior. They were the original 4, and Miku was the Lead Singer...but She and the others soon made a decision that they needed a more dynamic Lead Singer so an Audition was held and Saiki was picked. Miku moved to Backing Vocals and, though not knowing how to play, picked up the guitar and trained under Kanami to become a fantastic Rythm Guitarist in Her own right!! If you ever find yourself going to a Band Maid Concert, you will be 'Served' a Fantastic Show as all 'Masters' & 'Princesses' deserve!! Thanks for another great Reaction!! Po!

Hi there. A brief history. Miku (Red rose- Band Founder, Lyrics, Vocals, 2nd Guitar)- working in a Maid cafe in Tokyo in mid 2013, just decided that she wanted to sing in a band that played cool (rock) music. She had previously been in a Jpop vocal trio. She found Kanami (lead guitar and composer) on the internet as a singer song writer. Kanami knew Akane (Drums) as they had already worked together and Akane knew Misa (Bass) from music school in Tokyo. Soon after they got together and had done a couple of shows, Miku decided that her voice alone was not enough for a rock band, so approached their agency who suggested Saiki (lead Vocals). First show as a 5 piece- 22 Aug 2013. From then on the rest is history as they say, but it's so much more than that. You may be aware by now that both the band members and the fans have a fantastic love and respect for each other. This has resulted in a number of songs specially written and devoted to the fans. Try the recent Endless Story Official Live Video, taken from their final show of their recent 10th anniversary Tour. Dear neighbor, thank you for reacting to my favorite band in the world. "Domination" was the first video that exposed me to Band-Maid. This live video shows how Saiki, the lead singer, is in complete control of the crowd. Now for a completely take on Band-Maid, I hope you react to "Besties", the officlal music video. It's the band's most recently release and is a departure from their really hard rock sound. It's a mellow mid-tempo that the band wrote and recorded with Mike Einziger of the American rock band Incubus. Another video I suggest you listen to is "Manners/Black Hole", the official live video. It's a two-fer video that was filmed live on-line during the Covid pandemic and resulting shutdowns of performing before actual live audiences. The two songs are completely different from each. That's all I'll say about the video, other than it really shows their versatility.

Just think they play live like that for 2+ hours! Here's an intro to the ladies: Miku Kobato "Little Pigeon" - band founder - rhythm guitar and second vocals. Main lyricist. Has the energy of an average nuclear power station mixed with weapons grade cuteness. A comedian onstage - literally! She is the heart and soul of the band. Saiki Atsumi "The Ice Queen" - Lead vocalist and frontwoman. The youngest member at 30. Into train spotting and collecting trainers (sports shoes). Very girly, into doing her nails and is a fashion icon. Really into Baseball and the Hanshin Tigers. Don't mess with her you will lose. But she has a heart of gold and a killer dry sense of humour. Recently started writing lyrics. Has final say on songs. Kanami Tono - "Kanamincho" but usually just "Mincho" for short. Lead guitar and an absolute genius songwriter. Total riff machine. Has two personas. Normally a tiny cute shy very polite lady who seems very innocent (the band have to explain dirty jokes to her). Until she puts on her guitar. As the band say: "then she gets quite violent" - she turns into the shredding rock star she is. Takes guitar off, back to the little girl. Likes cakes, coffee and is totally infatuated by Saiki. She adores Saiki very much, to everyone's amusement. Akane Hirose - "The Gorilla" on Drums. Seems to be the sane member of the band, but is actually the band clown. Has an enormous appetite, seen eating in a lot of MV's. Eats a lot of bananas including on stage, hence the nickname. But she is terrible at actual cooking. Usually has a big grin on her face while drumming manically, Akane was also a DJ (under the name DJ Achi) and likes dancing and goofing with MISA. She also plays trombone! MISA (all caps, no last name) "The Barefoot Assassin" on bass. An absolute bass prodigy, MISA is very shy onstage (and a total clown offstage with Akane). Nickname comes from the fact she plays barefoot and looks like an assassin. Because of shyness often drinks onstage, you can often spot a bottle of Jim Beam on her amp. She drinks it neat. Lately drinking more beer than whiskey though, good girl. Doesn't say much, but when she does it's usually totally hilarious! At a lot of concerts you will hear the fans chanting MISA! MISA! MISA! which has become a slogan.

Saiki (main vocalist) writes the lyrics allegedly about her friend's husband who cheated on her during the covid pandemic. These lyrics represent her feelings about him.

Band-maid has been around for 10years and you should try some of their early stuff. Not all of it has film clips. They also do acoustic music and even have acoustic concerts. Nemophila is also Japanese and all girl or should I say all woman because two of them are mothers and married. Try their song Rise or AMA-TE-RAS. They also have ballads and during covid did many covers and even released a few. The group of girls called BRIDEAR have released a song in the last few days called Still Burning 🔥 and it's getting a lot of views and it also has some nice drumming. Early BAND-MAID songs I like include FREEZER, Shake That, Don't let me down (very rude) Before Yesterday,Key and ofcourse I Can't Live without you. They have over a hundred songs so I hope you aren't busy for the next few years.

You really should check out Lovebites for some more amazing Japanese female rock/metal but sung in english! Try ‘Holy War’ live from Zepp DiverCity as a starting point. This band is phenomenal live.
