Band-Maid is an incredibly musically smart band. Years of practice and touring, That middle section is a brilliant arrangement with high impact the obvious intention. But, you still have to have the talent to pull it off. They understand dynamics and structure. To just attempt to do that middle section takes a lot of nerve, but to pull it off flawlessly, well you get an astonishing performance!

You are right. They are skilled as hell but I really think they are even tougher workers. And they don´t save energy when the purpose is to amuse and astonish their crowds. After you have been blown away by the musicianship you willl be intrigued by the songwritting. None linear song. Guitar riffs change along the structure, the rythm can change suddenly without miss a beat, second verse is always different of first, hidden gems in form of bass sections or drum patterns came across the song and you find them with surprise even when you have listen to it several times, the bridges are possibly the most originals in history of rock, really progressive... layers in the layers in the layers... Nobody compose music like this nowadays, so probably they never reach the recognition they deserve.

This song from this concert on february 14, an over 2 hours super concert shows how good they are. I have seen the whole thing and trust me, Saiki, the lead singer did not miss one single note! Not one at all. Crystal clear from song 1 to 24 or 26 I lost count. The start you ask? song 1: RINNE song 2: Blooming and more really hard and up-tempo. I lost my breath after 4. If they kept it up my neighbor could call for an ambulance!

Lawrence Flower Budokan is the mark of having made it for a Japanese artist and these ladies have done it in 7 years which is relatively young for a band. The day they play the prestigious Tokyo dome might be here before we know it. I’m already starting to look forward to it. Just picturing Kanami atop an elevated platform at the centre of a packed stadium of 50k+ rolling her head back, lifting her guitar to the sky as if paying homage to the Rock gods above while shredding out a climactic solo... yeah! I’d probably be fine officially resting in peace after having witnessed such a moment even if just once

Just simply the best Rock group on Earth. Sounds as hard and as musically excellent as Rock did in the 70's when I first got to see the likes of Zeppelin and Zappa live. Every single member of BandMaid are superb at what they do and I hope they are just going to keep getting bigger and bigger - they deserve it. Great reaction as always and I was glad to see, at 7:21, that I'm not the only one who loves hearing those gorgeous few chords that Kanami, the lead guitarist, plays! I can see that you also loved the guitar duet followed by the drum solo followed by the lead guitar shredding - I play this track over and over and none of those moments get tiring. Also, they are the most gorgeous looking band ever! Very beautiful and striking Rock goddesses!

Anthony Griffin Although BM is my fav hard rock band currently I’d still have been rolling my eyes the moment I see a “best rock group on earth” but having just watched their latest Feb concert.... well, let’s just say even if the Godfather himself puts a gun to my head to make em roll, it’d be impossible as they’re still stuck reminiscing the scenes of these ladies just ripping up the stage one song after the other for freakin two hours straight! And it wasn’t just heavy adrenaline driven tracks like Rinne but also emotional ones like Page and Time, crowd anthems like Glory and Endless story... there was just so much variety and none of them felt like a filler. Heck even tracks like The dragon cries which initially was a miss for me got added to my fav playlist the moment they started playing it. From the musicianship to the crowd control, vocal delivery, the showmanship, the arrangement of the setlist, everything was on point. While the mix almost buried my bias Kanami, this still felt like a huge step up from zepp tokyo in multiple areas. The band itself also felt much more well rounded with Miku and Saiki truly bringing out their A game, worthily standing beside those excellent power trio. This was the thing I was happiest about like the feeling of liking the potential of a concept or prototype and waiting for years to finally hold the finished product in your own hands. I knew it was unfair to expect them to be on the sane level as the three exceptionally gifted trio who have also been professionally trained and been playing instruments from as young as 4 years old but I couldn’t help focusing on the trio as they stuck out too much and have for the longest time treated both of them as the background foil to the other’s excellence despite my best efforts to treat them equally. So I’m glad that they’re catching up fast and even if they never truly close that gap but at the very least it wouldn’t be as blatantly obvious as it used to be. Also, while their latest album Conqueror might not be as indulging to their older fans including myself due to its experimental nature but I feel its a much clearer indication of their courage to switch things up and the drive to improve, to not become complacent of their current success and stagnate themselves by dumping out one similar sounding track after the other just coz it sells more. And the fact that they managed to overturn my initial impression of that album in just one live setting with the same level of musicianship and commitment that got me hooked to them in the first place, goes to show that they’re serious about the change and not just doing it for the sake of it. I personally might not always like the new stuff but I respect that attitude nonetheless. With all that said, though the cynical reasonings of my rational mind might still have issues with terms like “Best”, I can atleast remain true to my conscience and confidently declare that they can definitely be counted amongst the best hard rock bands today. At most I’ll just need to slap them with that concert clip and watch them lose that smug look, the same way I did lmao. Now that I think about it, there was a time when they were just “One of my fav all female Japanese hard rock band”. With time they gradually went upto “Fav all female Japanese hard rock band” then to “Fav Japanese hard rock band” and now the “Fav hard rock band” feels right at home. Will there come a day when it eventually moves upto “Fav Rock band’? “Fav Band”? Or maybe even “Fav Artists”? Guess only time will tell... Here’s wishing these ladies get to play their music to their heart’s content till their arms can’t play a single string no more ;) So that the last view on my deathbed would be the live youtube broadcast of their last concert DVD that they just dropped.... damn wouldn’t I regret not getting to watch the whole thing then? Dammit Shit! I messed up..............

Your questioning of why Band-Maid has not received the recognition they deserve is the question for (hopefully) the donning of a new age for rock music. Band-Maid should have millions of Fans, be picked up by top music media and TV entertainment programs, and performing at the premier venues across the globe. I think people are slowly transitioning from the pretty, shinny objects flashing from mind-numbing idol, pop, hip-hoppy industrial BS acts, and more toward soul-restoring, gut-grabbing, mind-blowing music that is so perfectly written and performed by Band-Maid. We'll have to see if the general public can rise to a higher level.

I would be very happy with just a hardcore cult following in every country on the planet. If just 3% of people in Band-Maid's demographic in every country supported this band by buying their music and swag Band-Maid would have a fan base of 250 million people. My opinion is that this is far more realistic than trying to have the next number one after a rap group or Taylor Swift. Viva Band-Maid!

In my opinion no more so than a lot of these other bands do ie: Gwar, Slipknot, Judas Priest, etc. Many bands try to have a certain "look" in my opinion. Look at the way the guys in Black Sabbath dress. Not so overt, but they wear outfits that give off the vibe they want. Look at Buckethead whom people revere, look at Slash and tell me that that's the clothing of Joe Average on the street. Marilyn Manson, I just think there's a double standard at work when it comes to Band Maid's appearance compared to how other groups are viewed. So far they aren't covered in tatoos and don't wear black leather or at least faux leather. The point is that Band Maid don't do anything screwy when it comes to the music and their playing.

@@shlabedeshlub3334 well, I meant from the point of view that some of these groups do not sound good at all without enhancements because they're basic skills aren't great. Band Maid uses a little bit, but they can play like maniacs and if you took away everything and got them down to bare bones they'd still sound good. I always end up defending their costumes because I don't think they matter at all compared to groups like Slipknot or Gwar or a number of other groups that look like their out of a cartoon book. There are groups that don't sound good at all unless they have people off in the wings playing instruments. I'm talking about a number of people that are almost as many as the group itself. I know these practices are pretty much accepted universally . At least Band Maid writes most of their own music, not all of it I'll grant you, but most of it.

I now have all records they made and listen to them quite often. They already have "their place" right beside Led Zep, Pink Floyd or Van Morrison. Technically perfect, nice riffs, very good compositions, colorful, dynamic, interesting. Some songs are very catchy, like "Thrill", and made it already into my "all-time-repertoire". But: They sing Japanese. They speak Japanese. And they look Japanese. Besides the fans of anime and manga's, there are not many people willing to open their small little world. Yes, it's a shame that they are still highly underrated and unknown in the Western World, but I'm not surprised. I listen to "L'arc en ciel" (a highly recommended Japanese band with a French name..) for more than 20 years now - and still no one around ever recognized them... ^^

They don't let you breath... you see it something growing and turning into solo after solo and Akane seems to come to wrap it all up in ridiculous awesome drumming and when you think you can breath a little, Kanami slashes you with another little mind-blowing solo and THEN you can breath a little... only after that, your brain is already in a pulp and you just need to sit back and let it come to the end of it, and guess what? You just want to see/listen to it all over again and more... ...same thing goes for "Play" live or "Don't You Tell Me" live (the MISA vs Kanami at ZeppTokyo 2018)... OBS: and by the way, this show in particular, I find it very "Akane-oriented" ... the way the whole thing starts with a Akane solo (intro to "Rinne"), then you have another Akane solo in "Freedom" (I think!) and this one on "Domination" ... plus the whole Akane signature throughout the songs, of course...

Oh god yes if you as a mid- to late 20 year old woman can do that, you can say: I AM GOOD. The musical abilities of the Japanese in my opinion is something I'm always impressed by. In comparison to the "States" for me live shows for bands here sound nothing like the recordings. Yet a lot of bands from other countries the live shows sound so similar to the recordings especially in Japan. I just don't understand it and just chalk it up to the dedication of their perfection of their craft. Even bands that are not "huge" are amazing.

@@powertothebauer296 I think what she is referring to is that many bands can't pull off a live sound because they rely too much on the overproduction that happens in a studio. Anyone can be made to sound clean and powerful in a studio. MUCH harder to do when it's live. I don't necessarily want a total reproduction of a studio recording, but I DO what the song to sound somewhat like the song I remember.

Excellent reaction! I have very high level respect for the phenomenal work ethic of the Japanese. Over the decades from the middle of the last century on, Japan has surpassed other countries (the US, in particular) in industries including cars, electronics, guitars....and now rock and roll! I know these ladies tirelessly work on perfecting their craft, and it shows. As you can see, they're constantly getting better. It's almost scary. I've been playing guitar for longer than Kanami has been alive, yet she blows me out of the water. In fact, Miku, who's only been playing about six years or so, is catching up to me fast! I really need to practice more. And it's not unique to Band Maid either. There are many other all female Japanese rock bands that show a high level of proficiency. A saying has started circulating among those who play: "It doesn't matter how much you practice and how good you get, there's always a girl in Japan who can do it better". Stylistically, two of my other favs are Lovebites and Aldious. But the list is actually quite long as I'm sure other subs can add. And of course there's Babymetal. The contention there has always been that the group is "manufactured" as opposed to formed "organically". But that doesn't take away from their level of talent. In fact, one can argue that they have to be even more on top of their game in that they have to audition in front of a music director amongst many others competing for the same position (this includes, of course, the members of the band as well as the front line girls). Sorry. I normally don't write such long comments. But your comments at the end compelled me to share my thoughts. Looking forward to the next reaction. Cheers!

Japan has the problem with their overseas marketing. No matter what entertainment, it is the same. Anime, J-Pop, JDorama etc. Korean took the same concept but a far superior marketing destroyed Japanese media influence in Asia and the world except Anime. K-Pop and Kdrama reign supreme. Anime is lucky because US market opened up to them, even then it took them years to do so. If these bands wants to go international, they need more people to opened up to them or it will not go far enough. I have seen many Japanese entertainment like flash in a pan.
