My first Band Maid exposure. 29 Feb 2020 KZbin algorithms recommended "Thrill". Watched the MV and thought, "No, this can't be real. This must be one of those one hit wonders." Found more Band Maid MVs on youtube and the music on Apple music. Saw Band Maid in Detroit last year. "Thrill" was a life changing experience, a resuscitation of my love for music. The beginning of a journey to discover the great music coming from Japan. It has definitely been a thrill, breakin' new gate❤

Your story is almost exactly like mine-only real difference is that I saw them in DC in 2022.

Same happened to me. Heard Thrill after a long time doubting to click the thumbnail "they must be 4 or 5 cute girls with a screeching voice and not playing their instruments" Oh, boy. Was I wrong?!! After hearing Thrill I typed "Band-Maid live" in the KZbin search bar... Found Play live, the one with the sick bass intro by MISA, I've been a rabid fan since.

the main question is who made this song for them? bc I doesnt look like BM song at all, it's rly different in sound design and composition from the others on this album. There was some1 else behind 99% + consider the fact it's production project after all

@@mogaman28 Yes! I also ignored the recommendation for a while, then as I was finishing riding my exercise bike one day I had a few minutes of cool down to go and thought, "Oh well, what is this, anyway?" and clicked on it. And my life changed.

Strange to think now, but Thrill was my introduction to Band-Maid. I'd just started using reaction videos to discover new bands and was going through old reactions on a channel I liked. I nearly skipped Thrill because of the outfits, but then decided that would be too prejudiced. It was the best new rock song I'd heard for a long time. The next thing I did was looked up their Wikipedia page because I didn't want to support an exploited music industry product. When I found out they wrote their own songs (not Thrill, I know) and chose their own visual image, I was running out of reasons to reject them, until I thought "but I bet their fans are weird". So I read the comments section of the reaction video, and of course every single comment was about the music. There was one thing that I still found a bit offputting though, which was all the "best in the world" type comments. I remember thinking that the most hyperbolic comment of all was one that said "This is an early song. They're a much better band now and they have many many songs that are better than this". I thought "yeah right, mate, if they had many songs that are better than this, then they really would be the best band in the world". I now have a list of my favourite Band-Maid songs, and Thrill sits proudly at Number 59.
This song was my first exposure to the band in 2023. It's been full steam ahead since then!

Thrill was my intro to BM. I started getting into reaction videos 5 years ago. Watched everything I found interesting. Eventually ran out of content. Kept seeing the thumbnail for BM - Thrill. I kept thinking “I really don’t want to watch JPop.” One night I was so bored I finally clicked on it. HOLY HELL! That opening riff and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! Watched MV’s for Alone and Non Fiction Days. I thought they can’t be this good. I found “Onset.” The freaking holy grail! I have been a Maidiac ever since. One of the best experiences of my life. BM is like air to me!
@c.76107 ай бұрын
Same for me. For some reason I thought it was going to be some kind of lightweight poppy music with high-pitched cartoony voices or something. I can still remember shouting, "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS??" somewhere in the first thirty seconds. Fortunately I was alone in my house at the time.

Yes, Onset was the one that sold me on BM back in 2020. This was not the first video I saw from them. I don't remember the first video I saw but I do remember laughing my ass off when I first saw it. How they were dressed and the music they played was hilarious. I did not expect that music from women dressed as maids. Miku was correct about the "gap", as she calls it. The song I watched didn't appeal to me, but I could tell they had talent, so I gave them a chance and watched more videos. Glad I did because they have a lot of good songs.

I discovered Band-Maid when I typed in a request on KZbin for new hard rock and heavy metal. Thrill was one of the first suggestions the algorithm made. I watched. I listened. I fell in love. I am so grateful to have found these five extremely talented and beautiful ladies. I love every piece of music they perform. Thank you Miku, Kanami, Akane, Misa, and Saiki - you are the best. Every day is better with Band-Maid.

I remember searching out Japanese Rock after seeing Baby Metal on You Tube. I listened on Spotify and thought just one song then I'll stop. Just one more song then I'll go and do something else. I must have sat there for some time. Rinne was the song that I searched out to see if there was an MV. This band just didn't make songs I didn't love. Everyone was so repeatable despite not knowing the lyrics. Then I searched out the lyrics, watched YT and got involved in the personalities. I guess that was possibly five years back. But Rinne and Before Yesterday remain my great introduction to a band that can play anything and do it with a smile.

It's so great that they can joke about it now, but the threat of being disbanded had to be so devastating to them after all of the hard work they put in to keep the band afloat. This is the song that introduced me to Band-Maid, and for that it is the most important song of theirs for me, although I don't think it's anywhere near their "best" song. Thanks once again, Ohrenje!

For me I remember being disappointed when I looked up the songwriting credits on "Thrill" and didn't see any name that matched anyone actually in the band. "Oh well," I thought, "another female band run by men." But it didn't take me long to learn about the journey of Kanami and her songwriting.

Band Maid the song "Thrill" was my introduction to the band. Beautiful groove, nice riff ,I just absolutely love the song around. Now everytime I hear that song I just turn up the volume a little louder. Not sure if it's true but I heard Miku Kobato didn't even know how to play guitar at the time. True or not, she knows how to play now.

It's crazy to hear Saiki so animated in some of these interview clips. She's so poised onstage and plays that perfect straight man to Miku. Glad to hear that she lets loose when not in the spotlight. It's also shocking to me that Thrill is the B side. I did not like Maid in Japan. If that was the direction of the band I probably won't be listening today. I'm very glad they found their voice. Thrill is one of my favorite songs. The video is great, the use of Black/White/Red is striking. And, it always reminds me where Band-Maid came from. It's also crazy how young the ladies look. They have come a long way. I've never had the chance to hear Thrill live, I hope to someday.

It must have been partly the serge in views from the JRock Radio post that got it recommended to me on KZbin. I remember I was in a bit of a "Japanese rock/metal band" rabbit hole, cos I was listening to a lot of Maximum the Hormone at the time (cos they had recently release their latest album.... on a side note, it's STILL their lastest album!! I'm still waiting for another album, Ryo!!), I was also listening to Babymetal, probably had recently caught Crossfaith at a festival in Brisbane and I was looking for more. I stumbled on quiet a few that night, some that sadly didn't go far (like Rik Rak or was it Ric Rac?) and some that are still going like Wakagi Band, and Doll$Boxx, (I think I found Man with a Mission later... but it may of been then too) but Thrill was the one that hit the hardest for me. That was around Sept/Oct 2015 I think... I made a post about them on my Facebook, so I have it on record somewhere. I remember checking out what else was on their YT channel and watching the covers they did, needless to say, Akane doing a cover of MtH sealed the deal for me. I was all in when I saw that. Haha.

Thrill was the song and video that first exposed me to Band way back in 2015. My comment from that time is still in the comment section of that video and I've loved them ever since! As well, at 3:50 I always thought that Mincho's tone was great when she played her Addictone guitars with a Marshall or Blackstar amp versus the PRS and Mesa combination. However, now she has adapted those two to suit her style which unique and all her own. Thanks again Ohrenje for a great video! 👍

I think that when the record label agreed the deal with miku it had to include an individual deal with her and saiki to sell their souls if it didn't work out. Very close run thing. This was why they couldn't say no, although the band agreed that they'd carry on making music together whatever.

The people claiming that Band-Maid weren't playing on the MV had a point - it was painfully obvious that Miku couldn't play her guitar. (We'll take as read that MVs everywhere do not feature a live performance but has the band playing along to the studio version of the track - that is industry standard.)

They still get some comments to this day claiming they don't play, but it's laughable at this point that anyone is that clueless. I believe those comments ultimately resulted in a good revenue stream for the band (Prime). They realized fans enjoyed the isolated instrumentals. I doubt any band in the world has released more instrumental videos. It's well over 100. Maybe I'll try to count them some day.

I remember years ago, after I first discovered Babymetal in 2017, there was a thumbnail for a Band-Maid video that showed up in my recommended feed. I wrote it off because I thought it was going to be some gimmick of some cute Japanese girls in maid outfits playing some generic music that I probably wouldn't like.(yes I see the irony, but I mostly wrote off Babaymetal back then too) I finally gave them a chance in 2018 and I have regretted being so closed minded ever since. I will not truly forgive myself until I get the chance to see them live. As unlikely as it may be, I hope HANABIE. sold well enough in Canada that other Japanese artists decide to come here too. But I am more than willing to travel to see Band-Maid when the opportunity comes.

It should be noted that the way Miku told the story of Band-Maid almost being dropped by their agency in the clip used here is different from how she has told it on other occasions. She has said that she was told the story by management several years after "Thrill" and their subsequent success. The whole "Dance-Maid" part is almost certainly a joke/worst case scenario added by Miku as an embellishment to the story.
