At 1:35, Kanami takes a seat next to Miku while Miku is singing her verse. They share kind of a teasing look at each other. The reason for this is that on the previous show, Miku had messed up the lyrics on this part of the song. Sensei Kanami is there making sure Miku is on point. Edit: You shouldn't have a problem making a show in California. They've played Cali in every US tour they've had. They've played SF, Sacramento, LA, Anaheim, and SD.

I can testify to how freaking good they sound live. In my experience, even better than what you hear captured here. Of course, they do make the occasional human error, but you have to be an experienced sound engineer or musician to catch it. Every note is crisp. Everyone in perfect sync. They are extremely talented, but also well rehearsed. The Maids spent quite some time together, by themselves, in a cabin/studio and did nothing but eat, practice, sleep, practice, practice. Their concerts are called “Okiyu-ji” or “serving,” keeping with the maid tradition. Family friendly, high energy. Everyone feels like they are part of the show. The Maids even stop playing a couple times each concert to interact with the audience. Questions and answers, call and response, even Japanese word lessons. Incredibly unique, fun, and memorable. As musicians, you owe it to yourselves to react to their most recent metal instrumental. “From Now On” is not a show off session. It’s not a song to see who can play the fastest or do the neatest tricks. It is a musical composition that tells a story without a single word. Have quality headphones. Goosebumps are guaranteed.

The SG body styled bass is one of her Black Cloud basses who she is endorsed by, I believe most if not all her basses are 1 offs made specifically for her. However a Misa signature model has recently been announced, a jaguar body sunburst which I believe are sold out on pre-order.

yep beat me to it, that particular bass is her Black Cloud Private Reserve "Precision SG Bass" Misa signature. she hardly ever uses it anymore since she got her Black Cloud Black Smoker TRAD MASTER SERIES BETA J5 (customized). This is the retro wood grain one she had custom "relicing" done to make it look more worn with custom pickups.

This song is probably one of the more "simple" songs they play and they tend to goof off a lot during it. It's a staple of their live shows so they've played it literally a thousand times live at this point (or near enough). Not that they don't make mistakes. The rhythm guitarist (Miku) messed up her section in the previous show, so the lead guitarist is squatting right next to her to see if she'll get it right this time. They often make faces at the drummer to try and get her to mess up and just generally all run around having a good time during this song.

I saw them perform this live at St Andrews Hall in Detroit Michigan last May. Their set list that evening was 22 songs long and they knocked every one out of the park. This is *the* live band of live bands. Misa plays a Black Cloud 5 string. Miku's guitar is a Zemaitis; Miku is sponsored by Zemaitis and they made a signature model for her: The Flappy Pigeon. Check out "Puzzle" from their Tokyo Garden Theater Concert. Band-Maid *LOVES* touring America and they almost always do a leg down the West Coast.

When you see the rest of the band gather around Akane (drummer) it's their internal joke and this is often seen at their concerts. They try to throw Akane out of rhythm by making funny faces 🤪 Akane sometimes answered them with her funny face or laugh, but they never managed to disturb her 🙂

If you want to see stuff that particularly highlights the bass in solos or just stand out during the whole song, these are the videos you should find 1. Dice & Hate? from Lollapalooza. (trust me, this should be your next video, it's two songs, you'll love every second of it (except the camera work kinda sucks, but sound is great)). 2. Don't You Tell Me Live at Zepp Tokyo (this is harder to find, but worth it if you can) 3. No God Official Live 4. Without Holding Back (it's an instrumental) 5. Onset (another instrumental) 6. They haven't announced a US Tour yet, (they were just here btw, mid 2023 and end 2022) . They will most definitely be back. Perhaps even this year. Now that they can travel again without the Covid worry, they will be back. Check their website. I believe you can sign up for news. (2022 in CA they did San Diego, LA and San Francisco and in 2023 they did Anaheim and Sacramento) yeah, they will be back. I saw them in Boston and they did NOT disappoint.

Well, you found the ONLY extended drum solo in our Maids vast catalog of music! The girls toured the USA extensively in 2022 and 2023 ... we don't know much about 2024 yet. They mostly play small venues here so you can get up close and personal when you see them ... yes it is all done LIVE ... and once you see them you WILL be a believer. MIKU is actually a wonderful singer ... she originally was the singer for the band but decided her voice was not really suited to a full hard rock sound, so they recruited Saiki, the final member of the band. MIKU has at least one song on every album where she sings lead. As for MISA MISA MISA most fans will tell you she plays "lead bass". Her instrument in this video is a Black Cloud Private Reserve "Precision SG Bass" Misa signature.

Guys, they have been touring the US since 2016. In 2023 they toured the US twice including the Aftershock festival and Lallapalooza. They were only the second Japanese band to perform at Lallapalooza.

There are definitely inside jokes in there. In a previous performance, a couple of years earlier Miku (rhythm guitar/second vocalist) had messed up the words in her verse (funny, because she wrote the lyrics) and after that, for years, Kanami would get up close and stare at her while she sang them.

Here are a couple of their "inside jokes" - Notice that during Miku's singing part, Kanami goes and sits in front of her. She's teasing her because of an incident that happened previously. - When they approach the drummer (Akane) during a song, most often they're doing funny things like making faces to make her laugh and throw her off. The bass is a Black Cloud (new to her at the time of the concert). I believe she didn't use it for live sets for very long because it had a somewhat neck-heavy balance (prone to 'neck dive'). It also has a less 'growly', more bottom-endy pickup arrangement than the custom Black Cloud 'Black Smoker' p-bass she'd been playing for a while (she switched to it for the second half of this concert).

MISA exclusively plsys black smoker by black cloud basses. Its a smaller japanese manufacturer that split from fender back in the day. Thier inhouse pickups are absolutely top notch. MISA just released her first signature bass with them a few weeks ago but shes been playing black smokers for quite a few years now.

I think I saw in another reaction that Misa plays a Black Cloud bass that was personalized for her, but she has also played a Fender (before Band Maid). The reason she looks so mean is that when the whole "maid costume" thing was sprung on her by Miku, she wasn't thrilled about it. So, like Saiki, she decided to be an "Assassin Maid" and dress appropriately, lol. They don't call her the Barefoot Assassin for no reason, lol.

I will vouch for how amazing they sound live. Got to see them in 2022. It was by far the most amazing show i have ever seen! And there are a ton of videos that are live. During the pandemic, they did a number of live concerts without an audience just for their fans. And fan cams by the dozens! Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors from Tokyo University. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Frequently snacks between songs. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

They did a few runs through the US in the last couple of years, you guys missed out. No one knows yet when they're coming back, but I'm 100% sure they will make a stop (or a couple) in California when they do.

Yeah, they’ve been to various parts of California a bunch of times recently: - Sacramento - Aftershock Festival, Sept 2022 - SF, Oct ‘22 - LA, Oct ‘22 - SD, Oct ‘22 - LA, Jan ‘23 opening for TLRS - Sacramento, Aug ‘23 (one man) - Anaheim, Aug ‘23 7 times in less than a year. I’m sure they’ll probably play a CA date or two in late 2024, you gotta think. 🤔 Take care and rock on!

Apart from the wicked drum solo...Bass, for me, is the lead instrument all the way through. It's great how they have the confidence to troll each other whenever they like...though funny faces NEVER phase the drummer. But she does get revenge and makes Saiki's vocal wobble by pulling face and sticking her tongue out during 'Play'...guess what...from the same concert (it ends with fade in to 'Domination'). More fun, take a look :-)

They have over 100 songs and the old songs are just as good. Don't know if you've done NEMOPHILA yet but they are also great but they are more punk metal than rock although they do have some softer songs but ZEN definitely isn't one of them. Do Zen.
