Saiki's natural speaking voice is quite deep and when she sings in that low tone it can cause tingles in the toes, check out Anemone, Page or Daydreaming for this effect. Also check out Time for Miku taking lead vocals

"Freedom" and "Play" live versions are the two MV i watch when I feel a little down. Their music is uplifting and their joy to play together on stage is so contagious. If you want to ear where it all started, "Thrill". If you want to discover yet another side of their music, you can go to "Daydreaming" or "About us". If you want to find how far they can go in controled chaos, up to this day because they improve constantly, watch "Black Hole". Enjoy the ride.

This is an excellent example of how the Band Maid solos not only showcase the musician but also enhance the song; the studio version of this has no drum solo but the same guitar solo, in that version the guitar solo is great but after the drum solo in this MV it becomes epic: one members' skills is used to heighten another member. As for your reactions to band Maid videos, your 'Band maid smile' says it all. On the topic of lyrics, since you mentioned it w/regards to their vocals: They write great lyrics (primarily the rhythm guitarist, Miku, writes them). But, I will say - as a huge Band-Maid fan, I think their vocals are best enjoyed as the instruments they are. Trying to read lyrics that are often oddly translated (due to Japanese being hard to translate directly) while also watching the video the first time, is a great way to kinda miss the point of both 😄 So, forget subtitles for the first time around. Maybe catch them on a 2nd watch! Or just don't worry about it, and let the feel of the song tell you the story. But for reals, if it's something you really care about, their lyrics are usually great, and more meaningful than you'd expect. The English translations have to be taken with a grain of salt though - often, it's hard if not impossible to truly translate the meaning or intention behind the lyrics, due to just linguistic differences/incompatibilities, so sometimes they can come across as strange. Sidenote: *Onset (Live)* is an amazing instrumental by them. Not a bad next step to watch!

You must check out Miku's (Lead Pigeon, Rhythm G, 2nd V) solo project Cluppo, Po!. She is the brain Pigeon of everything that is Band Maid and their chief lyricist. The last 3 songs of her 6 song EP (Non-MV, yet) are real gems. You could react to her MV, and some are reacting to the last 3 audio only songs from Spotify. I think most Maidiacs just appreciate the smile that Band Maid bring out in us, and the reactors. Simple, Po! BTW, "Po" is short for "cluppo," the Japanese equivalent of how we in the US interpret as a "Coo" sound a Pigeon makes. Miku's last name, Kobato, I believe, in Kanji means Hato (dove or Pigeon). That's why she identifies as a 810 year old Pigeon and that's why after most or all of her sentences, she says "Po!" P.S., I started using click tracks some years back, trying to sync my brain metronome (which syncopates a lot) with the click.It's tough. Akane (drums) is a genius at doing her solo while following Kanami(Lead G) produced tracks. She is a Gorilla/Alien, Po!

Ah, the plight of reactors searcher for superlatives whilst watching BAND-MAID videos. You are not alone Jules, for I have seen this play out dozens, if not hundreds, of times. I'll teach you a fun Japanese word first taught to me by an 810 year old pigeon -- Sugoi! (su-goy) “すごい” (sugoi) is a compliment that Japanese people often use. It is used anytime when you are impressed by the other person's attitude and behavior, or when you think "This is good!" It is an expression that you feel intuitively rather than thinking. P.S. The 810 year old pigeon is Miku. She was touring the factory where her custom model guitar the "Flappy Pigeon" was being built. She must have said sugoi a 100 times. I mean, It was pretty amazing watching them hand build these playable works of art.

None of them have the musical sensibilities of Band-Maid, because talent in instrument does not equal great music. When I think about it, perhaps they are the most talented band, if you look beyond just pure mechanical skill. You need to know what sounds good, and Band-Maid is unbeatable there.

Glad you're really getting into your Band-Maid journey. I'd go with either Play (for an song that was too loved to just be an instrumental) or Onset (to get a small taste of what they can do when it's just the instrumentalists). At the end of the day you can't go wrong. As far as what to say don't worry so much, just enjoy the ride. You explaining why you like some something or why something is musically interesting is always good.

Watch the video again and notice on the side of the stage we spot the two guitar players (Miku and Kanami) pumping their fists, cheering and clapping for Akane during her drum solo. How many bands have you seen cheering their band mates on for doing a great, stupendous, amazing, job during a performance?? I know that I haven't. Great, amazing, fantastic, reaction again. Cheers.

twin tails, miku aka little pigeon/muscle pigeon/cluppo, is the original vocalist -- band-maid was her child after all. but she realized that her vocal quality won't be enough to carry their music, so together with the management, they decided to look for a more suitable vocalist. happily they got the ice queen with some clever misdirection, and hence the completion of the lineup and start of their career collectively.

The register many Japanese female singers use is not natural, it is intentionally "kawaii" - a traditional style of femininity based on childlike cuteness, higher pitched voice, etc. Often just translated "cute" but WAY more involved. Saiki has the physical characteristics to play the part, but the more they do their own thing, the less she cares to. Saiki is utterly honest and authentic. And the way she uses her voice reflects this. The voice of a grown woman, not a child. I was pleased that Miku also used a register closer to her normal voice on this one. Miku wrote the lyrics, although management still had an outside composer on it. And it is still one of their and our favorite live songs. BTW, they constantly change things up doing renditions to keep it fresh. They used at least three different arrangements of this song while touring that year alone. I feel very fortunate that this particular concert was recorded for DVD with Akane's sweet solo plus the magnificent transition after. The message here is a determined yet joyful declaration of personal and artistic freedom (which they have developed more with each new contract). Basically, "I am going my own way, and you can either go with me, or go away!" And we all cheer, "Hell yes! You go for it, we're right behind you!"

Just say what you feel, as long as it's not during a solo. And the word that keeps coming up again and again is phenomenal. So many ways to go from here. More LIVE from this concert, 'Play!' LIVE, another earlier concert, 'Real Existence'. A Music Video? 'Blooming' is a Power Pop Masterpiece! Something more Thrash Metal influenced, 'Rinne'. Something newer 'Manners' or the LIVE-To-Tape version with 'Black Hole'. Or even an old one like 'Secret My Lips' or the BAND-MAIKO version, 'Secret Maiko Lips'. How about the softer side of BAND-MAID like 'Daydreaming'? Tell us what you like, then we can narrow our suggestions.

You should listen to "secret My lips" MV official channel. Then, ask any madiacs for the link to a live video of "Puzzle" LIVE at Shinkiba Studio. You will not regret. You won't find it on KZbin. It's rare. Both songs are masterpieces.
