I think Kanami is a freaking genius... She thinks totally out of the box with many different genres in her songwriting, has unique VERY emotional solos without stealing the show, has DAMN cool riffs and switches it up even during one song... LAST but not LEAST EVERYTHING is so catchy, every song gets stuck in my head, but for different reasons: Catchy chorus, a solo that stucks in my head, an riff that i can´t get rid of for days and so on... She is a genius, everybody in this band is on a very very high level, but she stands out, at least for me personally! Greetings from Germany

Credit is also due to Miku for putting together great lyrics to this impossible to forget music...and Saiki to sing it just right!
@crabuki12733 жыл бұрын
I think Kanami's genius is that she stays INSIDE the box, but does so in unexpected ways. She baits you into feeling like you know what's coming, then she'll switch it up on you, or hesitate and throw you off balance, THEN give you what you were primed for. It's theory anyone can learn and use to craft songs, but it's her inspiration that makes the end product that much more satisfying. It elevates BAND-MAID's music above other completely competent bands', and it makes B-M special.
@yerayortiz72853 жыл бұрын
Tbh Kanami is probably the most important pillar of the band. If for some reason one member of the band has to be replaced it would sound very different (not that good bass, drums, voice or lyrics) but compositions would still be unique. If they replaced Kanamincho the "Band-Maid genre" goes bye. Don't get me wrong, if somebody from B-M goes I'll cry like a baby but I really think Mincho has become the key to this door and if you lose it you'll have to force it open
@drogonr93183 жыл бұрын
@@yerayortiz7285 For sure. For those that closely follow the band, I don't think this is controversial. There are dozens of virtuoso musicians for every talented songwriter, and you'll find bands - all-female bands even - with more aggregate virtuosity than Band-Maid. But you won't find the same level of talented songwriting. Only this band has Kanami. Misa tho now appears to be interested in songwriting, and I cannot tell you how excited I am to hear what she comes up with.

@@RyanMear I have to say awesome label name there! As an old school musician who has heard his fair share of bands of all genres. I can confidently say I would place the Band-Maid rythm section up against any band from any era and time. Let's just say they belong in the legends lounge of great rythm bass & drum tandems such as greats like Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. And just think they have yet to hit their prime. They are just scratching the surface of their potential. I've come to believe that to be the case from a recent interview they gave taking with humility about their appetite to improve at the respective instruments which any musician would kill to have half to the talent they possess. I totally believe they feel that. How can anyone doubt their work ethic with how prolific they have been cranking out a full length album once a year. With each track just as good as the last. This band is incapable of producing a bad track which is crazy. They are so prolific that they literally are approaching triple digits of tracks recorded in such a short period of time. How many legendary bands can claim half as many over a 20 year span. So strap in guys this ride has yet to approach it's potential and who knows what great places it will take us. And it definitely is a fun one as well. Selfishly speaking this band needs to be illuminated and supported just so they can sustain and endure as long as possible. The music world is unaware how valuable they are to it.

MISA's bass tone is so.... satisfying. And I mean that in the most absolute sense of the word satisfying as I don't think any other descriptor other than PERFECT can adequately describe her tone. What is so awesome, in my opinion, about MISA is that she plays her bass like it is rhythm guitar. No simple keeping the beat with her phrases. This song was just amuse bouche of what we got from MISA and Akane on Unseen World. You are 100% correct, I also think they are the best rhythm section (engine room) playing currently. Sure there's been better in the past but in terms of currently performing and producing these 2 are off the charts compared to most of their contemporaries. MISA is a machine. Her bass lines are a Browning M2 50cal machine gun just hammering away, meanwhile Akane's beats and bass kick are like an artillery barrage. The image of scene from Band of Brothers when their in the Ardennes during the Battle of the Bulge comes to mind. Akane's drumming is that powerful.

A couple of things you touched on, especially just smiling watching them whether it's live or a music video. They don't take themselves too seriously, like way too many other bands do. It's like they're just a group of 5 mid-20's women having fun, yet putting out some of the best rock I've ever heard. I'm 61 so I've heard a lot lol. I have to say this song has my favourite bass part of all their songs, not that all the others are great. But Misa is just killing it in the 1st verse yet she does it tastefully. The then counter-point part she puts in during the break demonstrates her classical training. Not sure if you know but she and Akane attended the prestigious Tokyo School of Music.

Yeah, MISA's two chords behind Miku's "CLOSE YOUR EYES" get overlooked, but they're sublime. It's really easy to give over to infatuation with this band. It's easy to proclaim, "They're the best band ever, the greatest players ever!" I've felt it, I've said it, I MEANT it, but that's also kind of silly. Lots of bands have been on par with them, but those bands didn't hit me at just the right time, with just the right type of music that makes my heart skip a beat. There are better players in the world, people have written better songs. But GD they just mean the world to me, and they consistently bring me new music that both fits my predilections and challenges me at the same time. Unseen World is one of the best albums I've ever heard. I sat there on first listen, super excited, kinda anxious that they would ... not let me down, per se - they're artists creating art, and sometimes that art isn't for you - but just play something I didn't dig. But it's song after song of, "Holy F! These songs are stunning." Miku's feature hits and you just want to hug her (platonically). Black Hole makes you cross your eyes and laugh, because they clearly just decided "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead." This is what people feel at old southern revivals, that giddiness of spirit, and I'll tell you, I pledge my soul to their rock-n-roll.

The singing, bass, and drums are great but I really love the song writing of the two songs and especially the guitar progression in both songs (which are very different songs). Plus the solos in those songs are maybe my two favorite Kanami solos. Another fan favorite is Moratorium (billibilli). If I could try to explain Band-Maid with one song, this might be the one. Dirty, heavy AF riffs, heavenly vocals over it, nasty solo, basically a pop bridge, and then back to heavy AF.

I've read that this is their response to critics saying they went soft lol and the outro line alludes to that,great answer ladies.

I've heard that, but I think it's maybe not true, and just a thing fans would have liked to hear

Your what 12 songs in and yet just barely scratched the surface of what they can do. There's different and then there's "Different" and yet have still to get to the "Puzzle" same song done two completely different ways, and... then there's "Band Maiko" an all-female Japanese traditional rock fusion ensemble with songs like "Gion-Cho" and a band maid cover "Secret Maiko (my) Lips" The well is deep and the water is sweet and no two sips are the same as you will see!

Track 15 off the truly great, Conqueror (just after "Blooming"). I don't know why this album is not loved like World Domination and Just Bring It. Conqueror might be the most complete of all Band-Maid albums, showcasing just about every style of progressive hard rock that exists. I also love how "Rinne" is a big middle finger to those detractors who said the Maids don't rock hard. Umm ... wrong ...
@RyanMear2 күн бұрын
I agree. Conqueror is a special album.

A little anecdote, this was written as a middle finger to all those who were saying that BAND-MAID wasn't heavy enough to be metal. I don't know how someone in one breath says BAND-MAID isn't heavy enough to be metal, and in the next breath are praising hair metal bands like poison. Don't get me wrong I like most hair metal bands myself, but you can't say BAND-MAID isn't heavier than they were!!!!!

Rinne is one of my least favorite band maid songs.. But it's still a lot better than a lot of stuff out there. .. It's band-maid, so of course it rocks :) I think most of my grievances is because of the mix. Conqueror was really poorly mixed/mastered. Every single live performance of the songs from that album sound soooooooo much better. -cough- wonderland -cough

Why? What makes them bad? That they're women? That they're Japanese? It can't be their skillset, because it's top notch. You can't really argue that.
