Each and everyone of these actors should be so proud of what they helped achieve with Band of Brothers. It is without a doubt one of the greatest pieces of television ever created and will forever help future generations understand the effects of war and also, more importantly, “why we fight”.

My Uncle Herb was 17th Airborn, in the 513th PIR. He jumped the Rhine in ‘45 ( one of 4 guys in his stick who got out - the rest crashed and burned). He had serious PTSD and had to be hospitalized for it. When medication couldn’t calm him down had a pre-frontal lobotomy. I knew him some time later when he lived with my Grandmother in the house I live in now. For a kid, he was a bit bizarre, but I always trusted him. After my grandmother died, he lived in a VA hospital and I rarely saw him. He died in the 60s of a heart attack. There was hardly anyone at his funeral. He was probably mostly forgotten by his generation as he had been institutionalized for much of his life. A couple of the guys from the funeral home had to act as pallbearers. I was proud to have been another pallbearer. Only one of his old high school friends showed up ( one of Patton’s guys) and helped us carry him. My Dad said of his brother, “ some poor bastards never had a chance”. I attended 2 reunions of the 17th and met guys he served with, and this past summer I got a ride in a C47 (W7 - Whiskey 7) that dropped jumpers on D-Day, in Holland , and in Operation Varsity - the jump over the Rhine. I have his Jump Wings with Star for a combat jump. I wish I had talked more with him about his experiences. He was always nice to me. I think of him often...

Lobotomy was rougher than PTSD and Brain Illness? Completely wipes you out! Research Rosemary Kennedy, the lost Kennedy, we all were ordered to PTSD treatment for diagnosis after service, it’s mandatory and it sucks? But back in the day? They didn’t diagnose PTSD as PTSD, Combat Fatigue and Lobotomies weren’t just handed out, but? That’s terrible

I met Michael Cudlitz at a Comic Con. He said the actors had huge amounts of respect for the men they were playing. When the real Major Winters showed up for preview or something, everyone called him Major or Sir. No one called him by his first name or Mr. Winters. He also said they were afraid of those old men and the real Bull Randleman said he would kick Cudlitz ass if he did not look like a real solider.

Had the honor of meeting a few of these actors, and the greater honor of meeting both Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron, at a D-Day remembrance breakfast about 10 years ago. The respect that the actors showed to the real men was breathtaking - not to mention hearing the actual stories from those two (and getting my photo taken with them). @jamesheffernan5491

Cobb was actually a veteran British actor that I saw in a previous movie about soccer. The real Private Cobb was an 8 year veteran during the war “a lifer” who wasn’t happy being passed over by newer men making non-com. He in real life was court martial Ed for getting drunk in Hagenau which the miniseries kind of glosses over. The only reference is you see the Cobb actor in the Jeep with the MP’s as E company pulled out of that town. The actor, I believe Heaney was his name actually plays Cobb as not the greatest soldier but the miniseries didn’t totally didn’t trash Cobb’s legacy. The Producers caught enough flack from Sobel’s family descendants.

I've come to love the cast and appreciate seeing them again, almost as much the men they played, who we all miss. Recently signed up and watched virtually 'live' the Band of Brothers 20th Annivesary symposium held this August 2022 --- instead of 2021 (held 1 year later due to Covid last year) at the WWII Museum in New Orleans. It was great seeing and listening to the panels of all of the cast and crew in attendance. My heart will never falter from how much I love the story ..but it's not just the series, the story and this group of men, but more so what all that Band of Brothers serves to represent our service men and women of the war -- in every theater, branch and division. Because it brought their story to our hearts greater than anything ever made in film. God bless the WWII generation .. Pray we never forget them! Love to the cast and crew as well.

Hollywood is famous - or notorious if you like - for casting older males to play military men than they were in real life. Obviously, some guys look very mature at a young age, but others still look like teenagers when they're in their early twenties. Tinseltown shortcuts this dilemma by tending to get somewhat older actors to play these parts. Male actors in their mid-twenties and into their thirties can often pass for younger than they are, yet look fully mature at the same time. Which is why so many cast members fell into that age range during the production. The late Dr. Steven Ambrose, author of the books upon which this series was based, consulted on "Saving Private Ryan," and attempted to raise the issue of the actor's ages versus what the men were in real life, and Spielberg and Tom Hanks just looked at him like he was crazy for even bringing it up. In particular the fact that Tom Hanks was playing a Ranger captain while in his forties. It is what it is, right? Lee Marvin - who had actually fought in the Second World War as a young Marine rifleman in the invasion of Saipan (where he was pretty seriously wounded) - was cast in WWII films right up to the end of his life in 1986 at the age of 63. He had costarred with Chuck Norris in "The Delta Force" that same year, and in an action role! It has to be said that "Band of Brothers" and also "The Pacific" - its bookend series - did a much-improved job with this issue, and the actors cast were believable as the young men they were supposed to be playing. And older people were well-cast also, in my humble opinion. William Sadler, the well-known supporting and character actor in Hollywood, got the role of playing Lt. Col. Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, the "Marine's Marine" in the latter series, and he hit it out of the park if you ask me. He was a decade older than Puller would have been at the time, but it didn't matter. Right guy in the right part.

@@GeorgiaBoy1961 It really depends on branch of service for WW2. For the WW2 Army casting actors aged 20 to 35 works. The vast majority of troops fell between 19 and 33 with a significant bulge at the 20-26 interval. In the Navy and the Marines most were between 18 and 28 with the largest groups betwen 19 and 25. Granted younger and older served as an example the youngest Navy KIA for the Battle of the Atlantic was only 15 and 6 weeks old. But most fell into those ranges. The reasons are because the naval service legally allowed under 18 to join with parental agreement. Which gave a backdoor for underage guys. The Army only had under 18s ilegally since the draft was 18 to 38 and the draft sent a very large number of 19 to 29 into the Army.

I'll never forget the premier of "Band of Brothers" on HBO, as I remember my family gathering at my sister's house - she had HBO then and we didn't - to watch the series. Of course, around that same time is when the 9-11-01 attacks happened, too. I'll never forget either event. Despite having seen it many times, I still pull out the series from time to time and watch it. It holds up very well even after all this time. A tremendous achievement on the part of those who made the series, and a fitting tribute to the amazing men of Easy Co. 506 PIR, 101st A/B and the other airborne and glider outfits. A tip of the hate to those British Airborne boys, too, because they were elite troops as well, and every bit as deserving of the honor accorded the Yanks. The very first Allied soldier killed in action during the early dawn hours of D-Day June 6th 1944, was a British airborne lieutenant named Den Brotheridge, who was KIA at Pegasus Bridge.

'Flies spread disease, so keep yours closed.' One of my favourite quotes. I had it engraved on a hip flask for my best man who is also a huge fan of the series.

So, it seems a lot of these actors were a hell of a lot older than the real person that they were portraying. My kudos goes out to these men for doing an outstanding job in the portrayal of such a historical event in the history of the world. We so often forget the men and women of that generation who made the ultimate sacrifice for how we live our lives today. My grandfather was a WW2 veteran in the English army and served in North Africa, Italy, Germany and France. I inherited his service medals which I proudly wear each Anzac day and rememberence day. Lest we forget.

cette série est un pur chef d'oeuvre ; j'ai le coffret dvd , le coffret blu ray et la BO . par contre la suite , dans le pacifique est beaucoup moins bon et j'ai trouvé la violence très racoleuse, à la limite du malsain
