9:55 Here's the interesting thing about Sobel that I noticed rewatching this series again. Look how it's filmed. The true reason Sobel did the Spaghetti run was because of his rising antipathy toward Winters. Sobel at this point was sensing that Winters was a better officer than him, and a better leader. Sobel was dismayed when Colonel Sink promoted Winters, and he worried that the men of Easy were forming more respect for Winters than for himself. By putting Winters in charge of mess hall for two weeks and telling him to serve spaghetti, all the while planning to call a surprise Curahee run after the men gorged, Sobel was hoping the men would assume it was Winters' decision to serve spaghetti, and therefore blame him for the ordeal. Note the long, smug look Sobel gives Winters as the men are leaving the mess hall. Winters, of course, once again proved himself the better leader by dressing to run Curahee too, alongside the men. Sobel didn't expect that, which is why he double-taked when he saw Winters running.

My favorite shots in this episode pertaining to how the men really feel about Sobel is when Luz mimics major Horton. Tipper, Sobel’s map holder, immediately recognizes his buddies are tricking the CO, steers Sobel into thinking it’s major Horton, and proceeds to smirk and chuckle during the whole ordeal. Sobel’s methods, while over the top and not well thought out at times, made the men of Easy come together and is what would ultimately save the lives of its men.

@danielreyes27964 жыл бұрын
My thoughts on why Sobel was such an ass was this: Throughout the episode, especially the scenes where they jump and are running training routes, you can tell Sobel is squeamish. He’s scared to jump out of the plane during their jump training, and he’s visibly nervous when giving commands and orders on where to go and how to lead. This to me shows that Sobel doesn’t really want to go to war, he’s scared of the war. So in my eyes Sobel is putting Easy company through hell because he wants them to fail. He gives them spaghetti because he wants them to fail the Curahee run, he tells winters to find wrong doings in the company even if he has to make them up, he makes up bogus reasons to make easy company look like a failing group of soldiers, he blames winters for their failure so he because he sees that winters is their ‘actual’ leader and so if you bring him down the whole ship sinks. Sobel wants them to fail so that he doesn’t have to go to war and lead them because ultimately he doesn’t want to go because he is scared. So when he sees that easy company is ACTUALLY a great group of hard working soldiers that can go through his bullshit you can see he is visibly worried. I could be wrong but that’s how I viewed it on my second watch
@tehdipstick4 жыл бұрын
@danielreyes2796 A good theory, but there are a couple of points against it. For one, Sobel's reaction to Sink telling him he's been resigned is earnest. The look on his face and his tone of voice is that of indignant surprise as well as feeling betrayed rather than relief. It's pointed out several times throughout the episode that Sobel, in his arrogance, vanity and pride, wanted to make E company the best in the 501st. Not out of consideration for the men or their safety, mind, but for the completely selfish reason of being able to claim himself as the best company officer with the most efficient company in the regiment. This is established as having been his one goal since long before the actual training began. Historically speaking the actual men from Easy company have spoken about how Sobel felt betrayed by Winters and the rest of the company, and how he became embittered and carried a grudge with him all throughout the rest of his military career. This has been substantiated by people who worked with him since. It seems more likely that Sobel had built up this idea in his mind that he was going to be some great war hero and lead Easy to victory after victory, and whenever one of the men under his command somehow didn't fit the image in his mind, then his reaction was to try breaking them, either so they'd fail out or 'shape up'. This sort of mentality would obviously put him at odds with his men, who'd see him as a living nightmare rather than an officer they could look to for guidance. Sobel's biggest fault, of course, was the fact that he completely collapsed under pressure during field exercises, making poor tactical decisions, misreading maps and what have you. Not only that, but he either lacked the introspective nature to see these faults in himself, or flat out ignored them, which put the lives of the men under his command at risk.

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg collaborated on Saving Private Ryan with historian Stephen E Ambrose as technical consultant. Ambrose wrote two seminal books on the subject of the paratroopers Citizen Soldiers and Band Of Brothers. Following the success of Private Ryan, Hanks decided to use his connections at HBO to push through this miniseries as producer. Enjoy. This great miniseries is a Memorial Day tradition in my family. My dad, brother, and I rewatch the series every year to honor the brave men who fought and died so that we could live in a free world. It is also fitting y'all should download the video on the 76th anniversary of D-Day. Currahee is the motto of 506th Regiment and is derived from the Cherokee language, meaning "We Stand Alone". 8:41-Those men who came up behind him didn't have to run up Currahee with him; they did it because they're a band of brothers. I am also a fan of Man in the High Castle and enjoy it because it's one of the few (if not the only) alternate history that shows how an Axis victory would involve Japan. The last few minutes of the series finale, however, were bad.

And this is a good example why Reaction videos have lost appeal - it became a big thing a few years back and you couldn't open KZbin without falling over a new one but back then it was cool, people were invested in the shows they were reacting too and you wanted to see if they reacted the same way you did. Now it seems all of them are in it just for the money - taking requests, all of them having Patreons or whatever other site they use to get donations (on top of KZbin monetization) and it has apparently become their job. Why should i watch someone or a group of people doing their job? In this case they clearly have little interest in the show, they are constantly checking their phones and they have next to no knowledge about the military (not that it is a prerequisite to watch any show but they come across kinda "uninformed" when they refer to the Jump Wings they earn in this episode as a Medal).
