@@garmenlin5990 Its nothing new, one of the oldest surviving greek texts the 'Anabasis' written by a greek called xenophon has a line that goes like this: "And in my own experience, gentlemen, I have observed this other fact, that those who are anxious in war to save their lives in any way they can, are the very men who usually meet with a base and shameful death; while those who have recognized that death is the common and inevitable portion of all mankind and therefore strive to meet death nobly, are precisely those who are somehow more likely to reach old age and who enjoy a happier existence while they do live. I heard an interview with Matthew Settle, the actor who played Speirs. His take on this moment was to remind us that Speirs was a numbers guy, who had studied accounting. He just did the math and figured that someone needed to get across and give the message, and that if he went immediately and directly, that would give him the best shot of making it. “They won’t be expecting it. So I just go.” And then they really, really won’t be expecting him to come back again.

I mean, Audie Murphy held off a German advance alone for an hour, standing on a burning tank destroyer firing the mounted .50. He only retreated when he ran out of ammunition, but then lead his men in a successful counterattack (despite having a bullet through his leg for much of the time.)

This entire episode was the best of the whole show. The shift in leadership between Dike and Spiers, “losing” Buck (and others), Spiers talk with Lipton at the end.
