And it's amazing because discovering these details when we rewatch feels like it isn't rewatch but a fresh new show. I just discovered recently that most if not all of the characters in One Piece are influenced at least by real life people or fiction like [SPOILER ALERT] you know Crocodile right? He's literally the same as Captain Hooks in Peter Pan because ya know the hooks instead of a hand🪝 but also the villain Captain Hooks is always eaten by a crocodile 🐊

@@shinsekai3d660 I also just recently noticed that the enemies that the Strawhats are facing sometimes have similarities with them like in Arlong Park, Multiple Sword Style Zoro fought the one with Multiple Sword style as well, Footwork Sanji fought with the karate, while Long Nose Usopp fought the one with huge lips, or even in Little Garden where Zoro fought the dinosaur with 3 Horn Style, Sanji fought a T-rex (a dinosaur that can't really use it's hands just like how Sanji doesn't use his hands on fighting), and Luffy fought the long neck dinosaur (because Luffy stretches). And as time passes, same details are still.

Honestly! You feel like you’re on the journey with her and a lot of it is super heavy! Then when you see Arlong Park collapse, basically the symbol of an 8 year long oppression, you feel that sense of freedom for her and the island! Don’t even get us started on Luffy destroying the map room! Lol you could write essays on this stuff. Hahah The crew feels bonded and we’re ready to hit the Grand Line! Until now Gen-san keeping a pinwheel on his hat felt like just one of the many weird OP design choices, when they showed why he used it i teared up, that was so sweet😢

Honestly. 100%! And now whenever Luffy uses Gum Gum pinwheel, it’s almost as if there’s an aspect of Gen and what he did for Nami infused in his attack. Just cause something looks silly or funny you figure there might be a deeper meaning looking forward!

The map scene to me hits so much harder in the anime. The blood stained quill and Luffy just seeing it is just so much more impactful than Nami herself explaining the chains she has to wear (that also for some reason are just still lying on the ground since years ago. I know that's a weird nitpick but it makes it feel super on the nose and overexplained to me in the LA), and then Luffy grabbing the sword and the long pause before breaking it. The anime also lacks the whole dialogue Luffy gives after the "use?". You know how much that word triggers Luffy in that moment and there is just no need for him to expain anything further and he also did go in there knowing really nothing about Nami's story but immediately understands what that room symbolizes and why it needs to be torn down. Luffy can be incredibly stupid when it comes to the most basic stuff, but his emotional intelligence is just on another level when it comes to his crew.

For me Nami backstory is still the best backstory in the show and there’s a lot of great backstory’s is coming maybe because it’s the one who makes in love with this show I don’t know 😂 but really this arc give us one of the most iconic moments in this show “Luffy help me” and by far is the best arc in the east blue saga 👍🏻

"I can't do anything that's why I need help" is such a powerful line. That's a direct translation when luffy reaches for the sword. That's why I love luffy. He knows he is not strong enough and will ask for help for other things. It's like everyone of them have roles to play. Unlike other jump animes, side characters are just there for decorations. Not much of growth. The power of friendship is too strong, they don't need to push their body to the limits because they will unlock it easily.

This fight is one of my favorites because Luffy learns the difference between fighting with your friends and fighting for your friends. All the fights, previously, Luffy was like a boxer, just getting in the ring winning that belt. He knew he could do it. Helping a friend along the way. Ussop and others even remark how he's just goofying around in the beginning. It's not until he sees the Chart Room, the bloody quill and chained chair that he realizes what Nami's gone through. His whole atittude changes. He's not just fighting with his friends, but fighting for them. The part with Belimere pushing Nami out the door always gives me chills. I love her story, but Sanji's background is still my favorite. So, uncharted water coming your way, guys!! I can't wait to see your reactions! Great job!

I think my issue with LA Luffy and "Of course I will" was him saying it twice. Once quietly and then screaming it after as true to the original. Doing it that way and not just letting the "hat on head" speak for itself first tipped the scene to "slightly to corny" for me as well. Not a deal breaker for the LA in the slightest though - was still great. Zoros vow after losing to Hawkeye has the same issue. The ever so slight "you almost had it, but..." effect, if that makes sense :D

He actually says it 3 times, but I actually like the way they do it in the Live action, because it's like the first time he says it he is saying it to himself, the second time to Nami, and the 3rd time to the world. It's all interpretation though.

The Sub version is the superior way to intake OP in my opinion. The art the voice acting, the lines and music, everything is peak and comes together to make up the masterpiece that is One Piece. I myself even stopped reading the manga 5 years ago.

22:10 I forget if it's just Japan or Japan and Korea, but technically you're not legally allowed to tattoo people unless you're a licensed doctor. I'm guessing that's why he gave her the new tattoo. I'm pretty sure earlier in the arc Usopp said something like "u have tattoos but ur a nice person" to Nojiko. Because tattoos are heavily associated with gangs over there. There are some places you have to cover up your tattoos in order to enter and some other places (like spa's) that you can't even go in if you have them.

Although it's out of the edit, explaining that Nami's new tattoo is a pinwheel and a tangerina shows as she saw her parental figures - Bellemère and Genzo. The tattoos are seen as a symbol of criminals in Japan, that's why Nojiko's action of getting tattoos was like sharing Nami's burden so that she wouldn't be the only tattoed girl/person in Cocoyashi village.

I'm not fluent in Japanese so English Subbed is the closest I can get to the source material for now haha I like that Luffy didn't know Nami's backstory, all he needs to know is that Arlong made his friend cry and that's enough to wanna help her. And hearing Arlong call Nami his 'NAKAMA' 🤬🤮 Lol when Coby showed up at Usopp's village I just started laughing cuz they're not supposed to be there. I know they couldn't be helpful cuz then they would really change the plot haha. for the anime i stick to the sub because it can express better some context or meaning to certain words that the dub would have to change in order to fit the english language, i stumble to this a lot in the translations of manga chapters that come out because i read in english and spanish and some times the dialogue being said changes completly, also some things are lost because of the japanese words that can mean one thing while also imlying other stuff

I’m watching OP with my siblings recently in dub as someone who experienced both I can’t tell you that it’s soooo weird, the jokes aren’t that funny and sometimes they butcher major scenes like what Jonathan said. Also Luffy’s VA is sooooo annoying to listen to, and other male VA sound exactly the same that sometimes I can’t tell which character is talking. The Japanese VA are fantastic at distinguishing each character and their voices fit the character perfectly.

I grew up watching one piece in the German dub and in the live action they used the same voice actors for the German version and he also says „of course I will“ in German and I got so many goosebumps in this scene. It’s so iconic! (I watched the live action once in German and once in English)

I actually watched some of the live action parts with the japanese voices and it's really funny to see the live action actors with those iconic voices. The first scene where I paused and switched to hear it was actually when Sanji yells Nami and she hugs Zoro and Usopp instead and I had the immediate urge to hear the familiar "Nami-swaaaan" because I just knew it would be there. 😂 And then afterwards I watched a couple of other scenes that were very close to the anime as well and it's just intreresting.

I love the end of this arc and how they tell story of the pinwheel as goodbye this is such a good end for Nami story, even more content ending for me, then the fact that they won with Arlong, bc yeah I'm happy that thry won, but end of the story is cherry on top. And the map room scene ahh Nami as kid had it a lot of harder then LA showed, yeah go crew! Ahh it is such a nice feeling watching someone getting to know One piece and really feel the story, and imerse in it fully. When there is a important moment you all are quiet and lets the moment have its meaning, and when is fun is fun and time to laught. Very good reactions guys. I have no idea about dub, bc I only watched sub, and I read manga, so even here are little differences but thry don't change feeling of the scene, bc what you said it really gives different feeling. But yes, I hear a lot about US dub a lot and also all animation changes they did, like Sanji with lolipop and not cigs, not showing blood and guns, etc. But we in EU didn't really have dubbed anime, only Pokemon, Sailor moon, maybe some Transformers, a least in my country. I watched Dragon ball series on tv, bc it was here, but we had it with voiceover but in backgroud was french dub, so later I watched with subs but it still had french dub, bc it is easiest to find for me at that age, I actually had very hard time watching original japanese version later, bc I only knew french dub and they voices there, and when I first watched original with sub, I was shocked how high Goku voice was. But going back to One piece, most people I heard talking about english dub they were ok with in terms of voices, but prefer sub with original japanese cast, but if they talked about translations from what I heard there are some gems that usually are not so good choises for story. But like I saud I don't know, and I'm not really interested in watching with dub, no need for it. 😉

That whole ending was just great! The pin wheel significance, the map room, the walk to Arlong park, “of course I will.” Not to mention all the fights! It was definitely the most satisfying of the endings so far. For us it also felt a certain way because we knew everything after that would be brand new! Honestly we’re loving it. We’d be binging it if we didn’t have to be all together. Hahah but at the same time, waiting till our next session kinda build anticipation! Hahah So interesting to hear people in their home countries experienced it! But ya that line change in the dub wasn’t very good in our opinion. Dubs have always kinda been interesting just with how the times have changed and how huge anime has gotten over the last few decades. Always a pleasure having you join us!

Well with the Grand Line ahead of us everyone can now really get focused and rested. I think the same is intended for the audience. We got the heaviest backstory so far, and the most action/stress. Although because 55 goes "and now we're suddenly doing this" and 61 goes "and now back to the plot" you might be able to just guess how things go. On the sub and dub matter; I am South African, and my mother tongue (IsiXhosa) feels "closer" to Japanese than it is to English in language usage, vocabulary, diction, and in tonal usage and nuance. Even though I am clueless about Japanese and speak English on a home language level, I find greater understanding of the story, character traits and personalities through the sub than the dub because of the language and tonal range Japanese has, like my mother tongue. All this to say, putting aside the matter of voice acting because it is a conversation that easily gets toxic, the English script tends to lose a lot of the Japanese range and nuance because of some script changes. I have heard dub watchers argue that for the most part, the dub's script is well adapted, and it is a fair argument, but as a person whose mother tongue seems similar to japanese in its poetic and tonal nature, I have found the difference very clear, and I think Luffy is the best example of this. It is also difficult to look past because he is my favourite character, and the script changes he gets from the dub make him less charming, smart, but also aware, but more annoying instead. I rambled, but all in all, frustrations about the dub are more than just voice acting related, but also the script, and arcs that are very theme heavy on a somewhat " meta" level tend to suffer when the dub changes lines. In those arcs, it is usually tertiary characters driving the theme, and I think it becomes so easy for them to change the script then, since most people care about the primary and secondary characters. I also think that it is through a lot of these changes that people sometimes lose some of the heavy themes and motifs Oda hammers into the story. He is such a poetic writer when you read the Japanese subs

It really does seem like the dubs lose some of that authenticity and nuance you get from the original translation. Nowadays they do much better but in the past, dubs suffered a whole hecka of a lot of script changes. The old DBZ dub is a real good example, or perhaps a bad one, of how crazy some of the changes in the script at the time of localization were back then. Long story short. We like the original Japanese. Hahaha

for me personally, the LA was faithful enough , but as you guys are now experiencing, it's dam hard to express the feelings that are being portrayed with the intensity that they are show to us in the anime, due to a lot of reasons ofc ( time constraints leading to lack of character development is the nr1, ussop in the live action is very flat compared to what we see from him in the anime, actor was cool though ) and i wish they nailed the walk to arlong park a bit better, overall fortunately we can just watch the 2, so it's just double the enjoyment

I love the English dub. Im at 1,036 and still going strong. The Localization problem of changing lines becomes a much smaller problem after 37. Thats the most egregious one I've seen so far. Honestly One Piece is lucky to have its Dub. It could be 10 times worse. I would agree the sub is better, but not by as much as so many think. People are just too used to throwing the win at Sub almost every time.

That makes a lot of sense! And that’s nothing new right? Animes always have some varied changes of lines across the dubs and such. Honestly 100%. Also considering that they have talented actors for the crew, it certainly holds its weight. We’re not really purists as far as sub vs dub goes. Certain shows we much prefer the sun and vice versa. It’s actually pretty individual between the four of us here.

There is something that I don't really understand, hope that anyone in the comment section who has been watching One Piece for years is able to explain that to me. The thing is that if I am not mistaken the guys from DUAnime are reacting to the Kaizoku fansubs subtitles who has translated One Piece many, many years ago and who had probably the most accurate translation of One Piece from Japanese that there was on the web at the time. I would watch One Piece with their subtitles "ages ago"😁 (probably more than 15 years ago) and I do seem to remember that when Luffy screamed to Nami "You are my friend", they had translated it instead as "You are my Nakama". And I do seem to remember that on a One Piece episode, they wrote a note before the start of the episode where they explained the meaning of the word "Nakama" as it is viewed and used in the One Piece series and they added that from that episode onward they were going to substitute the word "friend" with "nakama" whenever the Strawhats or any other characters of the series would say this word as it can be heard being said in Japanese in the Japanese dub. And I believe to remember that it was before the episode where Luffy actually screams to Nami "You are my Nakama" (For the DUAnime channel who might not know it, the Strawhats always refer to each other as "Nakama" instead of "friends" and "Nakama" in Japanese means something like "comrade" or someone who is treated by others almost as if he was a family member of theirs. Overall, it has a deeper meaning than the word friend and it accentuate even more how deep their relationships with each other are and every One Piece fan/veteran know about it🙂). I don't know, maybe I actually remember it wrong after such a long time or perhaps the subtitles to which the DUANime are reacting to are not the same that I am thinking of. Is anyone able to clarify this to me?! Do anyone even know or remember at all what I am saying?!😁

I gotta say, the anime has censored a bit the Luffy vs Arlong fight compared to the manga. In the manga each time Luffy got bitten by Arlong he would bleed quite a lot whereas in the anime he doesn't bleed almost at all. Also Arlong, whenever he took out his teeth he would bleed from the mouth whereas in the anime there was no blood at all. But this is mostly on episode 42, in the next one more blood is visible. Also the fight in the manga looked more fluid and dynamic than on episode 42 which was animated quite poorly.

@@DUAnime.Official Yes, I enjoy your reactions a lot🤗 One thing I can tell you about upcoming episodes/arcs etc. is that you still haven't seen anything😁 Everything is going to be much crazier and more epic , the plot, worldbuilding, characters, adventures, devil fruit powers etc. Also, there is going to be quite a change in the mood and tone of the story (at least after the next big arc). It's going to be more absurd, surreal, ridiculous and hilarious, so be ready for that😁 Before in comparison everything was toned down and you could say a bit more realistic😅 You will get what I mean😁

I prefer sub, but my sister prefers dub so she doesn’t have to read it. That was her stipulation in order to watch it and I watched most of it with her. I do miss a lot of funny parts with the sub and still prefer it overall, but I was surprised at the new funny moments and interesting jokes they kind of slid in there in the Funimation dub. I remember a couple moments in orange town I actually liked. The English VAs are not bad; the Japanese just tend to be more consistent to me. I’ve grown fond specifically of Luffy’s JVA. But I also think it’s because I can dissociate the meaning from the words and tone. It doesn’t sound cheesy to me if someone screams something since I am hearing an emotion in the tone like “anger” and seeing a word.

The dub is mostly fine but in the early stages the localization was weird. Localization is a very interesting process in any, It's very necessary because some time idioms and what a character means doesn't translate one-to-one, so the localization does there best to work it so the message remains clear. I'm not even sure if you can really truly blame it on the one doing the localization though. The sub kept it so its weird that the dub didn't simply follow. It could also be a relic from the 4kids days where they wiped out a lot of the complexity in the characters to pertend the show was for little kids.... Honestly I'm on team 'of course I will" because I watched the sub first and it was super hype, but my sisters watched the dub and were disappointed when the live action didn't have Luffy shout 'He's gonna pay". So I guess it could be more of a nosolgia thing, like people getting really attached to the first version and the script that went with it.

Sub is the original audio and original experience. What you call the "dub" is just an american dub for the american TV. It's a local-only thing, a afterthought and nothing more. Meaning there's also Spanish dub, German dub, Italian dub and so on. All of these are on the same lame low quality level, just as the american dub so there's no "dub vs sub" debate to begin with. It's just a crutch needed to be able to air the anime on TV for kids to be able to watch it since they can't read yet. Americans, and sometimes Canadians, are probably the only minority on Earth who watch anime dubbed. And that's like 4% if world population, meaning 96% of people online have no idea what you even mean when you talk about "dub vs sub". The problem comes from the fact that Americans treat an afterthought crutch like their local-only dub on the same level as the original audio, as if it's the definitive version or something, hence why "dub vs sub" debate was born (albeit on the english parts of the internet only). But "Sub Vs Dub" is basically "Genuine Vs Bootleg". So they aren't even comparable. Some people are lazy, or have disabilities like dyslexia so watching a crippled version like your locla dub may be justified in cases like this. But you gotta realize that it's only your problem and doesn't make your local dub any better than the original.

The German dub does some really crazy changes or just pronounciation that just hurt my soul - the advantag of dubs is though, I can do something else on the side, or just chill (I have re"watched" 400 episode alonside playing through OnePiece Pirate Warriors 3 back in 2015) The pinwheel and Nojikos tattoos are so intricate here, the LA totally dropped tha ball with their tangerine peel imitation - and altogeth glossing over Nojikos tattoo which make no sense with the way it played out there (especially with the stigma tattoos have in japan ...... which wouldn't really apply in the LA, granted, now that i think about it) now it's off to your own "grandline" (new story)

@@DUAnime.Official can't really talk much as far as OP games is concerned, I've played about 50-60h of Pirate Warriors 3, which I massively enjoy, and 2-4h of OP Treauser Cruise (mobile game) which really isn't for me. I much more like more action oriented ones like Bleach Brave Souls (which I've played for almost 6y now) but sadly has no OP equivalent ... not saying it's that great of a game, but I enjoy it quite a bit

Yeah there are three versions of Luffy and depending on which version you watch Dub/Sub/Live Action your opinion on him will vary drastically imo... Sub is the absolute best version of Luffy which is the purest version aka manga Luffy. Dub Luffy is just bad, it completely takes away the charm of the character and the Live Action version is a more grounded and almost holy version that leaves him too onenote for me personally. Just my thoughts from your beginning discussion. Love the reactions btw!

In all honesty i like the Dub Version better than Sub only for convenience purposes but if im talking about how they sound and what they say i like both because sub has bad lines or VA just like how Dub does But no matter what i take my watching in the language i speak over anything else

For me it really depends on the anime. Some anime I prefer to watch in dub and others I like to watch sub. For example, I absolutely have to watch DBZ in dub haha

@@DUAnime.Official Yes i currently am waiting for the Wano Arc ( Dont look it up its a more recent arc in the anime) to be in the Dub version so i can do a rewatch of that arc Dub usually does a bunch of episodes and drops them at once i think if im not mistaken theres currently somewhere around 1030 episodes in english Now of course everyone has their preferences and if you are caught up its ideal to watch it in sub But when it comes to later episodes with better animation i like it better to watch in English so i can enjoy the animation more and not focus on the Subtitles
