Nice double figure review on two of the first Toho monsters and the first kaiju battle to happen in all the Godzilla franchise. They both look fantastic and definitely blends in the black and white movie they came from, Godzilla Raids Again. Also about time we have another Showa Anguirus figure. Even though it's not the version I don't like much.

I think the reason why there’s a lack of detail and why the body looks different is because mold degradation with that I enjoyed the video my friend Edit: I hope they make a green version of Anguirus since the suit was green

While watching the video, I took the memorial box ver out of the display to compare the two. And although the sculpting seems identical, they actually put the inserted oval of dorsal plates on the memorial box ver upside down...or the other two are upside down, I'd have to look at pics. The paint is basically the same, just with different shades of grey and white, the tail paint being just barely even visible on the mb one, but all the way to the tip. However they are the same mold, it may just be the clear plastic messing with some proportions and details on the two pack ver. And obviously the mb 55 Anguirus is just the original showa mold in black and white, so comparing the two isn't very necessary.

Idk why but as a kid I’ve always wanted this figure but it was only available in the 50th anniversary memorial box which was $1,000. So I’m glad they are re-releasing it

You know Rob, I too like many was expecting Godzilla 1955 to be a straight up reissue of the Mem Box/TDP figure, but I'm glad its been slightly updated, and I think I know why that is finally. If you go back a few years you can see when bandai would do a simple reissue (Gigan72, Rodan05, BurningGoji, Moguera, Anguirus05 etc) of their figures, and those ones ended up looking rather soft and gummy compared to the original release. I assume this is because of mold degradation, so to counteract this, Bandai starting this year would re-work and re-tool the existing molds, rather then making whole new ones. We can see it in Godzilla05, Heavy Arms Kiryu (black), Titanosaurus, Goji75, Goji55 and even the 'new' Godzilla 1964 we're getting. In fact thinking back on it, Jet Jaguar 1973 might have been the first in the new wave of "Restored" figures? It makes sense for Bandai to do this too, not only saving money but also giving older fans a reason to double dip, while hooking new fans too. - ANYWAY, the figures! I'm in love with Anguirus, the detail is sublime as is the subtle paint. Godzilla here too looks rather menacing and mean, both figures look right out of the film! I'm super exited to add both of them into my collection, and I really hope we get a more retro styled accurate Godzilla 1954 in the future.

If that’s Bandai’s game, by all means. Keep going, please. Just makes the future feel a whole bunch brighter once the inevitable “we’ve done it all with the Godzilla - Movie Monster Series” dawns on us. Feels a lot closer now than it did a few years ago. Especially with all this Showa love. Weird thought all around. These deff feel like some of the better wide releases out of the MMS, I’m trying not to get too amped on it because it seems Bandai operates on a rollercoaster like quality train. Hopefully we’ll not see another Mothra 1992 level release ever again.

I was surprised at the quality of goo goo doll anguirus, and is pretty faithful to the original costume. What I will say though, is the burgundy in the mouth is out of place, as all the rest is black and white. Of course you can't see inside the Godzilla mouth, but I'm pretty sure the 1954 figure was completely black and white inside and out. Hopefully we'll get a Destroy all Monsters Anguirus next! As for Godzilla here, he lacks the quality of 54 goji or Anguirus and is overall pretty plain. Won't stop me from buying him though, peace!

I just realized that this new Movie Monster Series Godzilla 1955 has his dorsal plates upright in comparison with the orignal Memorial Box version which was upside down. I am wondering if they did that to fix that mold?

The dorsal fins are usually a separate piece from the mold, so whatever weird shish happened during the MemBox was just a fluke. Makes that OG 55 all the more need worthy lol
