Back in 1978, I was part of a contractor group whose job was to build first section of the road ( in total there were 11 or more sections ) started from Y junction to Ruma. I was a site supervisor for 3 months at Y junction. In those days, it was no man's land. It was so secluded and peaceful. Sometime, I used to sit down on hilltop hours after hour and wandered far into the deep and stretched valleys toward Mizoram ( at least 35 miles on a crow flying ) and got lost. It is him who wanted very earnestly to establish sovereignty around all the remote corners of Hilltracts. And as such all the road construction began one after another under the guidance of civil administration with collaboration from Bangladesh Army. It is the B Army who pioneered into the remote territories first. In doing so, they had to fight some unwanted insurgencies and as a result lot of Jawans, JCO's and Officers lost their lives. Salute to those fallen heroes !

create something better, which will create jobs for local people and slowly the local economy will be build up. Gradually- more roads, schools and hospitals will follow. That's how the tourism will develop. One thing for sure, tourists either Western or Eastern love cleanliness, good water and good bathroom. In fact, Western tourists don't care about good roads that much. All they like to hike or trek in primitive trail in pristine environment. They like to face challenges.
