This is going to be a very interesting project. Philco should have designed it with future repair service in mind by having some type of plug in connections for the circuit board for easier removal.

Unless I'm mistaken, those thermistors were a ceramic composite material - so it's entirely possible it didn't explode and the leads just let go. Once the disc between them falls out, it leaves it open to arc/short and cause all kinds of fun.

I had some replacement sockets for printed circuit boards but I'm not sure what I have left as I have used some in repairing radios with PC boards. I believe that AES carries some seven and nine pin sockets for PC boards but I'm sure that there are other sources. I would get the molded Bakelite replacements if you can find them, the phenolic wafer ones are not worth playing with.

You know I learn quite a bit from watching your videos. Me, my wife, and my best friend are going to be building some modern auio equipment from tubes and point tto point soldering for music production :) Just like they did in the 40's :)

have you ever considered installing plugs in the wires and screwing the board on standoffs instead of soldering it?
@bandersentv5 жыл бұрын
Others have tried with little success. It's really not worth the time and effort. Take the board out once, do a complete overhaul and put it back it. Once you've done a few of these it becomes much easier.
